UK Heat Wave

Mate. I’m half British, half Australian. Lived for years in both. 40 degrees in Australia is like 30 degrees in the UK. I was wandering around in 38 degree heat in Cairns in February, and it was nowhere near as horrendous as 30 is in the UK.
Off-topic but this reminds me of my friend. He always jokes about himself by saying "I'm half British, half Australian but 100% cunt".

Good job that this is a totally isolated incident, and no other extreme weather events are happening across the world at an increased pace 👍

This.

South Western Europe are now getting regular heatwaves of of over 45c. This causes forest fires which create a negative feedback loop as trees store Co2, thus adding to the problem.

Places like Iraq and Kuwait now regularly experience temperatures of over 50c.

Some parts of Australia are becoming uninhabitable due to heat and floods.

Parts of South America are experiencing severe droughts.

Evidence is pretty clear.

Normally, I give sheet to our Euro friends regarding "heat waves" being from Texas and all.

But not this time. No two ways about it. 102 F is real hot. God speed.

Well, picked a great time to visit with the family. Arrived sunday to london and leaving wednesday.

I did switch hotels though to get ac, so it feels like cheating.

OK let's see who's suffering the most. Here in my part of North Yorkshire The met office is predicting max temps of 34 today and 39 tomorrow but it's already 33 in the shade outside in my garden! At least the humidity is low at 31% so it just feels nice and warm so far.

Any Londoners still alive?
That's nothing.

When I was in Coahuila Mexico, I had to endure seasons from 45°C to 50°C for 3 years.

Rain on Wednesday with a temperature drop of 15 degrees.

So 2 days of heat and that’s climate change? If it was this hot in November I’d be concerned. It’s July.

Everything these days is used to try to push narratives.

Forests in europe are growing for decades.
There are large fires because forests grew too large. We became too good controlling fire events, which helped controlling the growth of forests. Its almost too ironic the consequences of our own hubris to achieve what we thought it was impossible.
Forest fires are not created by temperature but by arsonists and the negligent use of electrical machinery.

Reading the same form of thread over at era.....There they are angry that this isnt bigger doomnews and they are angry that people: enjoying the summer heat and are out and for example visiting the beach, swimming, eating ice cream etc. They cant belive people are enjoying the evil and dangerous sun......Holyshit, once again i have traveled to an alternative dimension.

Why does every non-British person find it hard to understand that we, as a nation of rain-dwellers and storm worshippers, are simply not used to this extreme heat? Seriously, we normally thrive on 10-20C. Anything above that is a rarity. Anything above 30C is practically unheard of. You might be used to it in your countries, but guess what? We ain't your countries.

That's true, when I fist came to China I needed to set the apartment AC to 17c or I'd be way too hot, only after years of acclimatizing I can now set it to 24c and feel comfortable. Colder that that now is too cold. Most of the time a standing fan is enough expect when there's high humidity or the temp pushes past 30c.

Man it's too hot...

My ice cube trays are just on constant refill, Iv got the damn things on rotation.

I'm not a fan of the heat, im up in the North East and it was about 30 odd today, went outside and you could feel it like an invisible wall lol, i didn''t go out again, feel for those down south where i'm from, roll on wednesday and the rain and 20 degrees.

It's quite interesting how much extra heat you get from the urban heat island effect. That and living in a house surrounded by concrete and other houses and yet more concrete. Met office had it as 35 max here today but out the back of my place it hit 41 briefly! Tomorrow they are predicting 39 here which would itself be a UK record as an official temp but I'm expecting to see something crazy like 45 deg C out there.

Then back to 20 and rain the day after. Like a warm day in a normal summer.

No, no, forests just ignite themselves when it’s too hot. Like a Sauna. Or the rainforest. /s

Also, people still believe that shattered Glas could start a fire. Sorry to bring that to you: It’s a myth.

Is UK summer heat dry or humid?

Humidity is what makes summers sweltering.

You can be in Vegas (dry heat) at 35C and it's fine. It's not as bad as it looks on the thermometer. You can also be in Toronto at 30C humid heat and you'll start getting sweaty walking from the office to your car in the parking lot.

...it started off being around 35C in May.... and it hasn't dropped since...it's been all the way to 43C... with humidity up to 85-95% every day. That's what I get for living in Texas. Don't worry you'll just sweat a little, you'll be fine.

And don't @me with that aircon bullshit.

Most of the places I've lived were poorly insulated and at best had a ceiling fan or nothing at all.

Harden up princesses.

Yup.

Some of my coworkers are from Southern Asia (Malaysia and those island places). They laugh at what pansies we are. I'd ask them what it's like there when they go home and visit fam and they say it's humid summer heat year round, still stuffy hot at night, and most people dont have AC built into their homes. So you just live with it.

Call me when it's 90%+ humidity like out here in Asia and I'll sympathise with you.

Dumb ass comment. I‘ve spent time living in far North Queensland where it’s the same weather you get. It’s easy when you have air con everywhere, and every building is designed to cope with it. High humidity or not, very, very high temps in the UK feel much worse.

You and everyone else saying stuff like this would be moaning like mad if you had freak cold weather… and no central heating to cope with it.

Had this topic back in 2018

Some people sadly don't give a fuck unless it personally impacts themselves.

I tend to just ignore anyone who denies climate change these days. Given the weight of evidence, and the opinion of the vast majority of the scientific community (who don’t care about dumb fucking politics), it’s clearly real… and anyone who actually understands the world outside their own little bubble, and doesn’t just pay attention to their social media feeds, knows it.
