UK Physical Weekly Charts: EA Sports FC 25 #1 and The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom #2

The latest UK charts data is here and, to our genuine surprise, The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom sadly didn't nab the top spot this week. Instead, the newly released EA Sports FC 25 has managed to beat the competition to claim the prize.

It's an unfortunate outcome, though hardly a disastrous one. After all, these are just the boxed charts we're talking about here; chances are Nintendo managed to flog a load of copies of Echoes of Wisdom via the Switch eShop. We suspect it will also retain popularity for a good few weeks yet, especially in the run up to Christmas. In a nutshell though, this is more indicative of the insane popularity of football games in the UK than it is of Zelda's commercial performance.
Elsewhere, Epic Mickey: Rebrushed has performed reasonably well to enter the charts at number four. The Switch verion in particular has proven popular, making up 48% of the platform split. Otherwise, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, Hogwarts Legacy, and Minecraft all take up their usual spots within the top ten.
Here's a look at this week's top 40 in full, with platform breakdowns for all of the titles available on other consoles alongside the Switch:

Mario Kart 8 and Hogwarts Legacy essentially is the Mendoza line.

Anyone buying a Switch is buying these games.

Interesting that Astro Bot outsold Epic Mickey across multiple platforms, but also interesting that the Switch version didn't drastically outsell the PS5 version out of the gates (it'll probably have better legs as you can see with games like Bluey and Lego Harry Potter). Weird that it has no inclusion of PS4, but also quite telling that games like this don't sell on PC...

EA FC highlights how dire things are for Xbox. The PS4 is nearly outselling the Xbox Series and X1 combined and is quite behind PS5. When GTA6 comes out, Microsoft can't afford these type of margins. The Pro is going to slant things even more.

Edit: didn't see this was boxed sales only, surprised Epic Mickey even has a physical release on PC.

Game is going to desperately need GOTY in order to hit the more lofty numbers people were seeking for this and Sony needs to do a larger ad campaign ahead of the holidays. That ad campaign needs to start in October to get a full push for Black Friday and then needs to be sustained through and adapted if it wins GOTY. They should advertise this through January/February.

Not going to pretend much would outsell “FIFA” but it’s completely worthless having Nintendo games on that list when we don’t know really what they’ve sold.

We still have the voucher system here which increases the chance of digital sales but none of it is counted so we might as well say that Tears down in 39th is really 1st for all it matters to legitimacy.

No one should be surprised by FIFA outselling a 2D Zelda haha.

The PC % will never be high on a physical-only chart.

It would be much better if that charts contained digial for Nintendo games, but there's not a lot GsK or GSD can do about that.

To see how close it gets to Link's Awakening remake factoring in the lower physical sales.
Nintendo would give sales later on if it sells over a million so we will eventually see if it sells better or worse than LA but I don’t think they’d do regional breakdowns.

It wouldn't be if Nintendo shared digital numbers.
If he had digital data it wouldn't make a difference though. It would still be the same position in the chart, it's all physical. Both Zelda games numbers were physical only.
It sucks that they don't share the digital data but I just don't get why it matters in the case of his tweet.
The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom debuts at No.2 in the UK physical charts this week (Nintendo doesn't share digital data, sadly).

He's just saying its sad we won't get digital later. Not that the positions in this chart would be affected.

wait doesn’t it usually contain digital for some companies? If it’s always just physical then why even mention Nintendo withholding digital?

How exactly is MS helping retailers in the UK at this point? How are they making any profit from anything Xbox related at this point?

The first data we get from the UK is always physical only. Digtal data gets released later (for most companies but not Nintendo).

Zelda, Astro Bot, Epic Mickey, Sonic.
It's surprisingly a very family-oriented chart the more you look at it. Is Sonic Superstars having better legs than Frontiers in this particular market? I keep seeing it charting here, lol.
