Jeez the majority of the media in this country stinks, how hard is it to make a neutral mainstream newspaper? All you need are a pair of tits on page 3, a 40 page football section at the back and some shitty celebrity gossip in the middle. Job done.
At least it's not as bad as the American media.

As an outsider, as SOON as I first read about Cameron three or four years ago, it seemed like he was sure to win no matter what. It's as though Labour cannot do anything to help themselves. The party is burnt out after a long time in power. Liberal Democrats seem like a permanent minority party unfortunately (I'd likely vote Lib Dem if I lived in the UK).

Can't say I'm going to be surprised when the results are in; I'd be shocked to see a Labour or Lib Dem victory.

Oh well, Cameron could pass as a mainstream US Democrat on a lot of issues, so believe me when I say you could have it a lot worse. Not saying he's ideal given where the UK is in comparison to the US when it comes to the political spectrum, but at least your Conservative end of it isn't represented by the Tea Party loons you keep reading about from over here.

It cost less than the LibDem advert in the Times.

As unpopular Conservatives are in this forum, GO TORIES!

I've got everything crossed for an overall majority, which, if it does happen, will be so incredibly tight.

Main reasons for voting Tory:

-We need massive cuts. The reason Cameron doesn't outline them all is because it would be highly unpopular yet it is essential to rectify our massive debt.
-Not increasing top band of tax.
-Raising the criminally low inheritance tax threshold.
-Cutting corporation tax.
-Stance on welfare.

So yeah, say what you will. My vote is set. Hoping for a good result! :D

So, we need to get money back...but not from the rich people!!

Oh no please! The BBC and Jeremy Vine have whipped out the Downing Street computer graphics again. I though Charlie Brooker made it clear how stupid it looks, I prefer a good old-fashioned pie chart.

WHAT IN THE FUCK.

THE FUCK.

If was an American I would be DEEPLY offended by that.
Eh, the Obama "HOPE" poster has been ripped off more times than I can count, and in ways that are far more offensive.

Fun fact: It was actually created by two lobbyists. The kind that Obama campaigned against. :lol

Is there a BBC or some other stream for those of us outside of the UK? I'd like to watch results, etc.

Though i'm going to be bummed when our conservatives win tomorrow, i definitely feel for you guys and am going to be depressed when the empire strikes back in november. at least our conservatives believe in a universal healthcare system, i mean jesus fucking christ.

My cousin will likely keep his seat tomorrow, he has a majority of 10,000. It will be interesting to see how much that drops with voters disillusioned with Labour.

I actually like this.

I love peter Brookes, but I swear that is an old cartoon or its an update of it at least.

The Times will always be the classiest paper and its why its the only one I buy these days.

I just visited the BNP website to see if it's still down. I guess they got it restored in some basic form, and all I can say is the family on their front page is the scariest-looking collection of white people I've ever seen.
Seriously. All I see is an advert for letting in more immigrants to freshen up the gene pool a bit.

And oh my fucking god at that Sun front page...

Not even all US Democrats believe in a universal healthcare system. It's very sad. I always laugh when UKers cry over Cameron potentially cutting NHS funds -- at least you'll still have a NHS. The system is far too popular in your country (and rightfully so) for any party to think they can just get away with trying to kill it off. Oh, how I wish that was the only problem facing health care in this country. Here, we have the right-wing threatening to repeal a health bill that only offers universal coverage through a mandate on buying private health plans. This is defined as socialized medicine to a good half of this country. I WISH the only thing I had to worry about from the opposition was a loaded statement from a conservative politician talking about cutting funds from a NHS system which they still support.

In other words, even if Cameron wins big, I'd still rather take your country's future political problems over mine... I am envious of the way your government operates, it certainly has prevented the completely toxic environment of compromise for no reason other than lining the pockets of fat cat lobbyists with gold. I'm sure it's far from perfect, but really, our Congress is a shithole. Especially the Senate. What an awful place.

So you'd rather Brown was still around? No thanks.
Yes I would rather he was still in power. I much rather trust him to turn this country's economy around than a smarmy prick who give no substance in any questions he's given.

Maybe this is because I'm an American and your center-right is basically my center-left/left, but what is so bad about Cameron? His views don't seem to be that awful.

Wouldn't that be 100% of the vote in his constituency?

Better than the Cameron Replicant.

lmao, i double checked and I looked at the table wrong(fucking useless guardian website), the 60,000 was the electorate. His majority was 10,000 last time out at 60% of the vote.

Right, I'm out of this thread, this is doing my head in. :lol
That's cool. I guess I should be equally as sensible and "jump out" of the thread whenever someone professes they're gone to be voting Tory. :D

He has a bit of a personality. British politics and personality dont go well together. Also because he is rich.

In a nutshell, it's because thirteen years of Labour has left people with a sense of entitlement which the Tories are promising to do away with.

Cameron is like a robot version of Blair that isn't fully functional, there's a severe trust-deficit.

And that too. People seem to really hate the fact that he went to Eton when it's a damn good school. Not a lot of people are aware of this, but Cameron actually got a First in his degree. He definitely has brains to go with his slick PR image.

The Conservatives support the awful, awful system of voting we have here, First Past The Post, they want to cut Inheritance Tax for millionaires, they want to repeal the ban on hunting with dogs. Their volunteer programs would be a way of hiding cuts. They have no proper policy on gay rights which isn't helped by their members frequently coming out as anti gay rights (See the B&B case and recent allegations about the church to heal the gays). They're terribly inexperienced and putting them in charge right now would be a great risk. That's why I'm not voting for them anyway.

Maybe it's because we've had it so good, but views like cutting taxes for the richest people in the economy while raising them for the poor, cutting spending on frontline services like education and policies while not imposing further taxes on banks, reintroduction of Fox Hunting, belief that unelected people should be entitled to vote on British issues simply because of the family they were born into (hereditary peers in the House of Lords), belief today still that the Iraq war was right, etc all seem pretty awful.

And that's without getting into the rest of the loonies that make up his party. Cameron presents a tame view of British Conservatism, but just look a page back to that gay rights pie chart to see examples of what the party really stands for.

To be fair, Brown and Blair was inexperienced in 1997 and if the electorate valued experienced highly they would have voted for Major! Experience doesn't necessarily result in good government - it more often than not results in complacency.

Theres a great mock-umentry writted by Toby Young where he portrays Cameron at university lazing about, hooking up with girls and doing nothing while Boris Johnson works his arse off, attempts to get elected to the Oxford Union but fails and later gets arrested for the infamous pot-plant incident. I bet Boris secretly hates Cameron :lol

Thats so true. he did the exact same course and the exact same university as the chuckle brothers but they are viewed as the darlings of the labour party.

He might have been privileged but he has always worked hard to get his grades and achieve what he has.

Actually I was thinking it will be funny tomorrow how David Dimbleby will react to his fellow Bullingdon Club members winning office.

That cover has got to backfire, surely?

You don't need it, it says on it that it's for information only. It might help to bring some ID if you can't find it. edit: too late

This problem is best summed up by when he cycled to work so as to appear environmentally conscious, but had his briefcase driven to work behind him.

Not seen it. But I have heard rumblings that enmity exists between the two and that Cameron feels Boris constantly undermines him in his Telegraph column. Plus also that Boris harbours ambitions to become PM after two terms as Mayor.
