Do all Tories have to look like posh school boys? Really? This dude on the beeb is just so instantly unlikeable.

hes trying to take the moral highground yet he started his first post with 'you fuck' :lol

To be fair, it was abit harsh but the point still stands, just because someone doesn't agree with you, doesn't make their point any less valid. Then you assume I read the tabloids. Good old class wars.

Anyway hopefully Clegg declines to be kingmaker, the Tories form a minority government and make ad-hoc agreements to get legislation passed.

As the only coalition that could have a clear majority, I wonder what kind of deals Clegg would want out of Cameron, and even if Clegg did agree how would the rest of the party react?

I doubt this could ever happen. Too much policy/ideology difference, plus Murdoch wouldn't like it one bit.

Every "minor" party would be.

My prediction? We'll have an limited coallition between Liberals and Labour and the tacit support of PC, SNP etc. to push through voting reform and some needed financial stability packages. THEN we'll have a new election in December which will create destroy the Tories.

I could see this happen, after all Labour wants to stay in power and everyone else in that coalition would want a fairer electoral system.

I actually don't mind Ed Vaizey. He sticks up for video games in parliament a fair bit.

Harriet Harman throwing a tizzy. :lol

I don't think Westminster will ever go fully PR. The scottish parliament way works fairly well.

The Scottish system works incredibly well. But I can't help but feel that any PR system would fuck up regional parties.

Well it's either that or the SNP campaign in England as well. :lol

I think Cameron would be open to say, AV+ but his party would never stand for it. No chance of STV or a similar system from the Tories, that's for sure, none.

I can only imagine the furore from the Tories and the right wing press. I think most people want this, the Lib Dem vote seemed to disappear because people thought 'they'll never make it' but if the system changed to make that possible, they're in a strong position. There were a lot of polls that said 'if you knew the Lib Dems could win, would you vote for them' and a huge majority said yes.

David Steel should jump over the table and punch him. Get some South of Scotland hospitality up in this bitch.

The furore from the Tories and Right Wing Press is exactly what we saw when there was a possibility that the Tories would not get in and that the Lib Dems had broken through. its not something that i'm worried about seeing cause they do it so often.

He's made more sense of the situation in the last half hour than anyone else did in the last 12.

I've never heard of this David Steel fellow, but I like him already.

As well as being the leader of the former parties that are now the Liberal Democrats, he was the MP for my region from 1965-1997. He knows his shit.

As I said above, they can make a coalition that works. It makes the most sense, if you want power.

Gordon Brown needs to offer Clegg a high-ranking job in the cabinet really fucking quickly.

Maybe he believes he can force Tories to reform the electoral system to STV. :lol I'd like to see him try... and i guess we will :p

Clegg is being clever. He's putting himself into a position where if talks fail/he simply wants to work with Labour, he can blame the Tories.

Apparently we will.

You haven't managed so far Nick, what makes you think you can now?

Fuck me Clegg has just dropped the bomb. He did say he would support the the party with the biggest mandate and it looks like he is a man of his word...

I think Clegg's right. The party with the most votes should call dibs and get a first shot on the national interest - the public voted for them. It doesn't mean he WILL work with the Tories - just he thinks they should get a say first.

Elections may be about ideologies, but they are also about power. This shouldn't come as a surprise.

Apparently that's not how our system works.

This. With his statement he simply upped the ante.
He can now relax and wait how the Con and Lab guys try to 1up each other in their offerings for him to form a coalition.

Not at all. You simply fail to understand how our electoral system works.

I know exactly how it works. We have local MPs we hardly ever see, and couldn't really give a fuck about, and we have party leaders who debate on national TV and are the face of the parties.

Joe Six pack bases their voting decision on what they read in the paper and now, seemingly, Live TV debates involving said party leaders simple as that.

A Labour/Liberal Democrat Coalition worked for Scotland. It can work for the UK.

Believe.

Indeed, and I am impressed. He definitely made a good move IMO.
