My country has been in a constant government crisis since 2007. We've had coalition talks for 194 days, and up till today we're still in crisis because the government has fallen again (it's happened like 5 times in 3 years) a few weeks ago and we'll go voting in June. Basically, it means that de facto we haven't had a decent government in 3 years. Yet, our economy is still here. I'm not saying the absence of a government has no negative effect on the economy at all, but a country like the UK will definitely manage. Stop worrying about the Pound and Stock Index and such for now. It's been only 4 days...

Well Labour MP Tom Harris just made a pretty robust argument for keeping FPTP electoral system on Newsnight and interestingly he said that he personally would not vote for anything more than the manifesto pledge of a referendum on AV. So basically as it stands now, the two parties are only promising the Lib Dems a referendum on AV, nothing more except perhaps an 'aspiration' of the current Labour leadership for eventual PR.
