UK Retailer GAME is dead | Brera's Lament

I'll be honest, I'm half expecting GAME to cancel ME3:CE orders a day prior to release now. I'm trawling the website now to use up the stockpile of reward points up...

I really wanted that CE, not worth the risk now however.

damn game getting priority on that collection, kind of fucks up the uk.

I was never notified that they would not have Ubisoft games in stock. I have 2 ubisoft games on pre-order. Game are fucking shit.

What's the situation with Vita and GAME? A friend of mine pre-ordered one last month and they never even bothered to ship it. He's understandably furious, having taken the day off work to receive it in the post, but beyond that they haven't even bothered to let him know that he wouldn't get one.

Anyone else having a problem receiving the actual system?

I was going to preorder SSX from them, but with the whole Tekken thing last week i'm not taking any chances. Tesco it is chaps!

I really want the Mass Effect 3 Collector's Edition but what are the chances of me being able to acquire one in store on release? No way on earth would I consider making an account on their site. Gamestation are selling it as well it seems so I could try there too.

In-store stopped taking pre-orders for the N7 CE a while ago IIRC.

Assuming they don't mess up my ME3 CE I think I can definitely say this will be the last pre-order I make with GAME.

Way too much bs going on for my liking and the shear uncertainty over people's (mine included) orders is worrying. It would be great if they would send an email out to pre-order customers that their order is secure and there won't be any downgrading/cancellations/etc.

I think my friend's experience with his Vita has put me off buying from GAME for now. If they weather this storm and come back with good customer service (and prices), I'll go back, but right now they're a disgrace.

I don't think this helps them at all either, they are not going to get back into the black by being a shit service.

OMFG, have you guys seen this shit:

GAME: "we can't stock absolutely everything"

http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2012-02-22-game-we-cant-stock-absolutely-everything

Q: Last week GAME confirmed it would not be stocking Tekken 3D Prime Edition and cancelled pre-orders just days before it was due to go on sale. This week you cancelled the Special Edition of The Last Story, which is due out on Friday. What's the situation going forward? Is it the case that you are not in a position to stock all new titles?

Anna-Marie Mason: No. Part of our success as a business and part of our success with customers is we have the widest possible range we can bring to market. With Tekken, that was a very difficult decision that our business didn't have that title. But with regards to the Ubisoft titles, that is one moment in time. It doesn't mean to say we won't have that title or that part of our proposition on an on-going basis.

Q: So these games may come in stock in the future?

Anna-Marie Mason: They may do.

Q: Why is this happening?

Anna-Marie Mason: There's no one specific reason. There isn't one specific catch-all reason. We do endeavour to give our customers the widest possible range, whether it's GAME, Gamestation, online or in-store.
We can't stock absolutely everything. That's just not possible.

Q: Why not?

Anna-Marie Mason: You can see, there's a finite amount of space in a store. The same applies in a rational way to our online business. There isn't a definitive reason why we haven't been able to stock those two things most recently. But that may well change.

What+Is+This+I+Don't+Even+2.jpg

this company is really starting to get on my nerves.
it's like they're oblivious to what's happening to them. are UK customers REALLY that SATISFIED with them that they think they're doing an amazing job? (seems so from Anna-Marie's perspective...)
again, what really bugs me is that they still manage to secure top notch exclusives, forcing us to buy those titles from them. *sigh*
dunno, I'm just puzzled by GAME...

If it wasn't for Mt. Fuji pre-order bonus, I'd go somewhere else too.

Damned pre-order bonuses. Make HMV the new to-go game store!

F**k GAME.

Seriously, cancelling shit like days before it goes on sale. OH WOW THANKS FOR THE TIMELY UPDATE. >_>

They're just lucky The Last Story Collectors Edition isn't like sold out all over the place or anything it seems, or else I'd be HUGELY more pissed off at them for leaving it till the last second to tell me they weren't gonna go through with something I pre-ordered as soon as it was up to do so.

In this case it seems like its ok, other places still have it for pre-order...... but could have been much worse. :|

I think we may be able to add Shinobido 2 to the list of games they're not stocking.

Went to see what the situation was with Vita games and accessories today, and the Shinbido case had a "Coming soon - Preorder now" sticker on, the same as the boxes for Rayman, Lumines and other Ubisoft titles. The rest of the games had prices on (albeit full price RRP - £44.99 for Uncharted when I can walk 2 stores down the road to Grainger and see it being sold for £39!)

Wow, that interview makes them sound terrible.

They're a specialist retailer, and yet they're saying they can't stock a relatively well known title?

How about getting rid of half of the front of the store being covered in a display of empty boxes for future titles (and I mean covered)?

They don't have stock to fill those shelves with, though.

They need the pre-orders so they've got some cash to buy stock. That's the problem.

The way they are at the moment they are basically stuck in a loop that they can't get out of without a huge cash injection.

More like they had so few preorders for a game that it did not make financial sense to stock said titles when the discount they would get of said publishers is very weak.

Plus it looks more and more likely that Gamestop will be buying Game's international component. That is the huge cash injection.

Virtua Tennis 4 was £32 in HMV, £30 in Grainger Games and..

£39.99 in Game.

£17.99 for a 4GB card, £31.99 for 8GB, or £44.99 for the 16GB, which they didn't have in stock.

Yikes.

Not having enough room is total horseshit, too. They can hardly fill the shelves.

That interview gets even funnier:

"In a marketplace like video games, there will always be somebody that's selling the game cheaper. That's not what we're about. We've never tried to be, or never wanted to operate like that.

"What our customers get from us, whether they shop with GAME or Gamestation, is more than a sterile transaction. They get the opportunity to transact with us in the way they want and they get added value. Our customers will vote with their feet."

LOL

Preorder bonus FTW. Basically for £25 at the site that is banned here, you get the game. At Game if you preorder you get DLC retailer exclusive. Which is a fine way to operate the Game brand.

Also most consumers of anything just go to the store or service provider they associate with that service. Most people even though they can move away from BT or British Gas can't be bothered to shop around for better deals, same case as we are talking about Game. People should maybe shop around but the mass market consumer chooses not to actively look for the best deal on the market.

Absolutely correct!

I hope that interview was conducted in a parody format because if those are answers that GAME as a company stand behind then that explains everything.

No they believe that. I've worked there, and they genuinely believe that people who "know more" about gaming (barely any staff do) is worth a £10 in price hike.

Hm, did you pre-order it? There's a good chance they would have had at least one or two in stock if it got at least one pre-order.

It's not that we need to stock everything that's the problem at the moment. We need more MGS: HD Collections, we need more Kingdoms of Amalur. Still haven't had any more stock in since launch and they're in the chart... Vita did really well today though, lots of happy customers picking up their consoles and walking away all excited. :) HMV have a good deal with Uncharted for free, but there was a little rumour going around today that the one in our town wasn't selling very many of them. Goes to show people are still coming to us regardless of deals, whether it be for ELITE points or they just prefer the brand.

Since I'm going to have to pre-order SSX from this scummy company to get the exclusive content, and considering I have a gift card. Will I be able to use the gift card when I pay for it? I could imagine them being arsey about it.

Of course you can use it. You could even use it to pay for the deposit as well.

Bunch of dicks GAME are. I go there today to pick up my vita, they said on the phone yesterday that there would be a deal where if you get the console, Uncharted would be £30. So when I get there the deal has "changed" and uncharted is now £44.99!! Bunch of cunts, I hope they disappear into oblivion.

I have ordered my Mass Effect 3 N7 Collectors edition via Gameplay which is Games other website and i just got an e-mail right now stating that my pre=order is safe and will be delivered but there site will be merging with Gamesation. Im not sure if this just applies to Gameplay.co.uk and Game or just the one.

Wondered if anyone else got one of these e-mails yet??
