In town again today. Got those contact lenses. And there's a food market so I just had a kangaroo burger. Delicious.

Oh? GAME and Gamestation? Yeah, waste of time even checking. They're living in a fantasy world with their prices.

Well I got a letter in the post today from Game, claiming there was 'REWARDING INFORMATION INSIDE'. Excitedly, I promptly opened this letter wondering if it would live up to the bold claim on the front.

'Dear Mr. T,

We wanted to let you know that your local GAME (Bracknell) will be closing it's doors on Saturday 24th March.'

Apparently Gamestation will stay open though.

GMG was a once in a lifetime opportunity.

I fucked up so bad! For 3 months I was on a roll. A ROLL.

Then I lost my head. Not gonna make that mistake. I'm gonna hold over the weekend, if I lose the case, fuck it! I can get more but right now, best case is making back my losses. Life is full of what ifs but I've learned so much about the share market.

Hope zomg is ok!

I went to my local Game again today but they had put the prices up too. What's worse is they couldn't even let me pre-order the Vita version of Disgaea 3, not because they aren't stocking it but because the option isn't even on the system. I doubt it is a game that will sell millions but this is why they're going bust, specialist game store my ass.

Out of curiosity, why are you preordering from them in the first place? It's going to be much more expensive.

Unless you have some store credit, in which case, preorder away!

Sold my thomas cook shares at a profit, with the capital I had in, I was never going to make megabux so have £250 to plow into GMG. I'm hoping for a drop before close today...

Doubt there'll be anything world shattering but I'm going to pop in to Cambridge centre and check out GAME and Gamestation again.

Well, the most interesting part of this was that I saw a duck sitting on the grass quacking quietly to itself while I was walking between Gamestation and GAME. That and I lol'd at how much GAME are charging for Terraria (and when did that even get a physical release?):

Holy crap! Today's real megaton is that more than two people can have the same first name.
Visited my local GAME today. Some bargains.

Picross 3D and Ghost Trick (DS) - £3.99
Pang Magical Micheal (DS) - 49p

Kind of. I'm deciding whether or not to trade in a game to them since they're giving the best price. I wanted a guarantee that I could actually pre-order the game first.

WTF? PC games, in GAME??!?

I know, right?? And it seems they actually changed what they had since the last time I was there (last week) since it had a different set of shitty budget games. There was still like 3 shelves' worth of The Sims 3 though. Guess that one never gets old.

Was just beaten to it. Rrp of Terraria is £19.95 game just selling per publishers instructions.
Know people who already have steam version who have already bought the boxed version, just to support the release and for the extra tat.

By the way can anyone recommend a good site to get lists of upcoming UK game releases? I used to use Game's site for that but obviously won't be able to any more.

Is it worth checking out my local GAME/Gamestation stores tomorrow? I still haven't looked for any bargains since all this shit went down.

Shiiiiiit, my missus would love that. Just grabbed her LEGO Harry Potter 5-7 from GAME this dinnertime as well. Will look out for Terraria next time.

Fair enough, you given Amazon's trade in service a try? People usually forget that you can trade in games to them.

They may give a better price.

Went in today and my local GAME still has some deals. I rounded out my collection of WWE games with Smackdown vs RAW 2007 for 1.98, and got Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit on the PC for 3.99.

Also picked up a SW:TOR 60 day time card at full price - it was the last one they had in the shop.

The staff were in a pretty good mood (had a conversation about the Mass Effect 3 ending with one of them!), and the shop was fairly busy.

Is anyone going to actually play the games they got for stupidly cheap?

I got Zelda:pH and Tetris DS for 48p each just because.

From the Asura's Wrath thread, but relevant:

I wanted to buy this on a whim last night but id be buggered if i couldnt find it anywhere.
Neither of the blockbusters by me, 2 Asdas didnt even have it listed, neither did Sainsburys or Tescos. Ended up getting Mass Effect 3 instead.

Have ordered online now. Didnt want to wait :(

This is what life after GAME will be like, if you like buying games that aren't FIFA or Call of Duty.

Mine have already been added to the monumental backlog folder, I doubt I will see many of them for a while.

Started playing Deus Ex, though.

I don't think there's anyone here who doesn't realise that (except for the guy you quoted of course, nobody else would expect supermarkets to have anything other than chart titles) and I agree that it sucks, but the reality of it is: what can you do about it? At this point it doesn't seem like GAME can be saved, even with crazy folks like Brera pumping cash into its stock.

Someone will spring up to replace GAME. If they are smart about it and turn themselves into a proper specialist store that stocks the kind of stuff you usually have to buy online, and if they have a good online presence that rivals the big online retailers, then it could work.

Alternatively, maybe there will be a few more indies.

Life is already like that with Game though. The range of titles available in brick & morter retail is generally terrible over here. I remember when it didn;t used to be so and you could find probably 75% of a machine's library out on the shelves, in alphabetical order, but it's not been that way for years.

For some reason they don't take Vita games yet but from what I have price matched before they haven't been getting close on prices. I may just trade it in and get another game then order Disgaea from Amazon instead.

I am reading that many people will have to rely on supermarkets to buy games if Game close, but do you people not live near a Grainger Games, it might just be me living in the north east but I know of at least 2 in the area.

Grainger Games is only in the North at the minute. That will be my salvation for brick and mortar games.

Well, today was payday for me, so I was looking forward to cashing in on GAME's misfortunes one last time before they go down in history, but this time I decided that I'd keep what I bought, and not sell it on for profit. There's only so many times that will work.

So, today's haul:

Far Cry 2 (PS3) - £1.98
Red Faction: Guerilla (PS3) - £1.98
The King Of Fighters XIII (new, PS3) - £4.98
Disaster: Day of Crisis (Wii) - £1.98
Trauma Centre: New Blood (Wii) - £2.98

Five games for £13.90. Not bad, Especially KOFXIII, which I can now give away to a friend. Finally, someone to play with beat the sh*t out of with EX Kyo~~~ ^___^

As for the shops, the Lord Street Gamestation had a copy of Street Fighter X Tekken for Xbox 360 in stock, and the staff just couldn't resist the opportunity to have a go show the game off to the assembled crowd - about a dozen or so people crowded around the Sony booth, watching the 360 game that they couldn't get stock of on their own. Somewhat ironic, then, that it was the most crowded that Gamestation had been all week.

So, guys - everything's gone all quiet, and the prices have crept up, so am I to assume that GMG has found a buyer? Or are they still NINTENDOOMED?

Woman in game today wouldn't allow me to buy Bioshock and Bulletstorm Epic Edition for £2 each cos I didn't have ID. She should have let me away with it considering I was about a foot taller and the shop will almost definitely be shut down.
Edit: cursed autocorrect changed id to idea.
