Uncharted 4 runs at 1080p and targeting 60fps

I'm confused.... if hitting 1080p/60fps was a challenge to maintain on TLOU remastered, what makes them think that they can achieve the same performance with an even more visually demanding game?

Did they overhaul their engine for PS4 where as, TOLU was sort of a patch job??

Different engine.

I think we can expect a similar comparison from this, whioch would still look insanely good.

The TLOU was designed around the hardware in the PS3, so its going to be difficult to get every working at 100% when porting to PS4 hardware. While UC4 was designed around the PS4 hardware from the start.

First trailer for The Last of Us. Pre-rendered cutscene that doesn't show up in the final game:

First trailer for Uncharted 4. ?-rendered cutscene that looks like it won't show up in the final game in the same fashion:

I think anyone can fill in the "?"

They should've just shown some clips from Indiana Jones that were stored on the PS4. Those graphics would literally look like real life, and it still wouldn't be lie!

Wait, just because it wasn't in the final game doesn't mean it isn't using the game's engine.

here is an example

Here is a tweet from the Uncharted Lead Game designer:

Well ND did say the gameplay will be on par or better than the cutscenes of the last of us. now if the GAMEPLAY is on par with the cutscenes of the last of us, the cutscenes of Uncharted would look like in the Trailer no?

I know it's in the games engine. But at a higher quality to that of the gameplay's visuals.

Am I the only one who thinks U4 will miss 2015? I know it is Naughty Dog, but still recent delays of Sony 1st party games is concerning.

I'm sorry but where's the source to back up this claim? Who's to say the ps3 can't render what is basically an on-rails tech demo using the games' engine.

This is a known fact, and accepted. They used PS3 farms, multiple PS3s, to render higher quality visuals for cutscenes in TLOU.

Not that much of a difference really. The lighting is the only major change on the realtime shot. If you would light the bottom picture like the top they would look almost identical.

Frankly what is it with developers who say they're targeting 60fps this gen? Why even say it?

Is there even one game so far that has said they're targeting 60fps that actually hit it? Is Last of Us Remastered 60fps, because they were targeting that shit too.

It's bullshit to overhype something.
Hypothetically what if they got it to hit 55fps and it never falls below or above that would people complain (much)?

I finished Uncharted 1 and stopped an hour into UC2 and never touched 3 (still in shrink-wrap). But, I will probably pick this up when it comes out just to know how it all ends. I'll play through the series once this is close to release.

If this happens with the kind of graphics shown then I will the completely blown away for the first time since I've joined the gaming community 4 years ago.

But all I wanna know if it's possible to have the game look like that and without everyone going, boooo it's CGI bullshit or do we have to wait until PS5?

You stopped an hour into UC2. You're a terrible person, especially since you took the time to complete 1 but only an hour of 2.

Textures and lighting are the more obvious differences.
It think the cutscene has also some sort of subsurface scattering (or something that looks like it).which gives the skin a more natural look in the way it interacts with light.

Well, we don't know yet because the game is not out.

Naughty Dog has a tendency to push the bar forward in what console games can achieve, so it makes sense that we're always having these discussions every time they announce a new one. But based on their track record I think it's safe to bet that the final product will at least look similar to what we saw last night.

Just thinking about this blows my mind every time. I remember a while back I said that Uncharted being a full 1080/60 is probably the only way it could be more impressive than The Order. It's like they heard me. I'd love it if the next GoW could be much closer to 60 then the previous ones. Would benefit the game a lot.

That and it's clean as a mofo.

There's not a whole lot in this trailer to chew on in terms of guessing whether it's real time for me. No fancy lighting or effects being shown off. Sub-surface scattering and detailed character models are the most I get out of this demo.

I can't believe some people aren't willing to give ND the benefit of the doubt. They always been pushing the bar high.

We never doubted them, why start now?

Exactly. If it doesn't look EXACTLY like what was shown it, it will be pretty damn close, especially in "cut scenes".

But didnt they say cutscene and ingame characters are gonna be the same for next gen

They said in an interview after TLOU that they are looking into bringing cutscene and in game characters as close as possible (link is somewhere in this thread). I think those pictures are a good indication of that and I expect Drake's character to be close if not the same from the one shown.

Beside the color differences. I honestly am having a hard time telling the different between the two. You can swap them and I wouldn't know the difference.

youd probably notice in motion
the high quality models have way more articulation in the face

Its crazy hard to believe that this game will be 60fps. Its insane to think. I want to not believe it in fact, but damn if Naughty Dog says so...

People always doubt Naughty Dog and they're always proven wrong.

Remember when the TLOU gameplay was shown and half of neogaf SWORE that the whole sequence was scripted or pre-programmed and the real gameplay would look nothing like it?

Blog said the same thing about Watch Dogs (1080/60) I will wait and see, if its close to the reveal I will go crazy

You're talking about Last of Us remake, but this is the Uncharted 4 thread, which is what i'm talking about, using Last of Us ps3 example as a projection of what we might end up getting as ingame graphics.

I honestly don't get the doubt. PS3 was 7 year old HW that obviously couldn't handle what they wanted to achieve. Even with the flaws it's still one of the best looking games last gen. PS4 is a totally different beast. I don't see why ND would have to do a 8 PS4 trick so early on. But i guess we'll find out soon. All i know is whatever set piece they show next E3 is going to make me jizz buckets.

I'm happy to know the "DIMINISHING RETURNZ RABBLE RABBLE" crowd from late last gen has gotten a big serving of egg on their face with games like this at this year's E3.

I want to believe they can hit 60 but I just don't see how it's possible. ND is arguably the most talented studio in the world when it comes to engines but I don't think even they can release a game that outclasses everything around it with that kind of IQ and on top of it is 60fps.

Doubt or speculate all you want. Anyone leaning one way or another is talking out their rear. This is one of the top devs around. They've set a target. No way to know for sure until the finished product. If they publicly declare it as a target, it means it's feasible. Whether or not the hit that target is down to the development process. I don't care too much either way. Most games I own I'm pretty sure are 30fps. PEACE.

The polycount for characters in ND games are always the same in cutscene and gameplay they never use higher poly models for cutscenes. What they do improve is the lighting and shader quality, specifically skin shaders and texture quality on characters...but everything else is the same.

console graphics have already peaked at launch. this is fake cgi. open ur eyes.
This is naughty dog. Open your eyes. With shit like last of us running on a ps3 (equivalent to a 7800GTX with 256 mb of ram) it is possible to have something like that running on a ps4. It's the 60 fps that blew me away.
