Freezie, we probably agree on 99% of this. My intent was not to demonize--it was only to note that you are painting this group in a very favorable light. There are some people whose rationale is roughly, "Regardless of what I think about his view on social issues, he probably won't be able to advance that part of his agenda, so I'm voting in my best financial interests. To do otherwise would violate capitalistic ideals."

Well, this time tomorrow I'll be getting ready to leave to vote. So glad it will be over. I'm part of that 27% from the south supporting Obama.
The Republicans have really got their hooks in the South. The districts and political infrastructure are set up to favor the Republicans now. It will be extremely hard for the Dems to count on much support from this area in the future unless the places like Atlanta and Charlotte get a high turnout and counter the suburbs and rural areas.

The non-Americans who responded in that way are either joking or incredibly ignorant, though I'm sure you know that. That's a pretty insulting thing to say considering it's likely that only a very tiny percentage of people are that racist.

As.
Only a tiny percentage of his voters are racist?! Wtf?! You're a naive fool if you honestly believe that racism isnt large part of the reason this election isn't a blowout like it should be.

I think it's a bit more of a factor than Piggus would like to admit, and probably less of a factor than you believe. The partisan Us vs. Them tactics have polarized a large number of people on both sides. It wouldn't have to have anything to do with race. But you have to admit, using Obama's race and labeling him as an outsider with policies that are alien to the will of "real America" play into that Them xenophobia pretty well.

And that doesn't even take into account the rampant misinformation and ignorance that is frankly embraced by many.

Reason it's not a blowout has much more to do with the jobs issue and that Obama has disillusioned some of his young ardent 08 supporters than racist people who vote republican regardless.

The final Latino Decisions tracking poll shows Barack Obama routing Mitt Romney among Hispanics, 73%-21%.

that pretty much guarantees a Obama win in FL/VA, maybe even NC no?

While overall the vast majority (60+%) of US hispanics are of mexican origin, in florida they are mostly cuban or puerto rican. Obama support among Cuban americans is considerably lower than that nationwide figure

I'm still laughing.

Why don't we have an Election Electoral Vote Prediction Thread? The NPD Prediction threads on the gaming side make for some fun following NPD results.

Only a day to go now, has everyone firmed up the rants and excuses if their guy loses? I think we need a poll on which will be the most used.

Obama loss: Racism or Diebold-esque shenanigans? EDIT whoops ^^ voter suppression, how could I forget that? Sort of a mix of racism and cheating.

Romney loss: Liberal media influence or voter fraud?

Just put down a £50 bet and also used a 'free £50 bet voucher' with the same betting for Mitt Romney to win, at 1/4.3 odds.

That means I'm risking £50 - and if Mitt Romney wins, I'll get like £375.

Considering polls are neck and neck, I think that's a fair bet.

I don't have a million dollars, but I'll offer you 10,000-to-1 odds on Jill Stein winning. So you bet one pound, I'll pay out ten thousand if Jill Stein wins. Just let me know, I'll send you my paypal address.

Meh, the betting odds at my place of choice are 1/1.2 for Obama. I trust he's going to win, but I'd have to put in a decent amount to even get much out of it.

You should add Christie to the Romney loss.

If American votes in Romney I'll be disappointed more so than Bush. That is all.

I recall sitting with my old boss in '04 and watching the polls roll in for Bush...we both lamented on how the American people could make such a poor decision. I'm putting my money (and vote) on Obama, but we'll see tomorrow.

Guess I'll crosspost this here, the two threads get tougher and tougher to keep track of :p

Way into work this morning:

Talk radio going hard on the "early voting talk is whining, you had plenty of chances to vote in Florida, no one will miss out on voting on election day if they really want to" angle. My normal distant reserve while listening to these hacks has failed me, I am infuriated and bewildered. No one seems to find it strange that one side wants to make voting harder and one side wants to make voting easier. If I knew nothing about the united states, and was just looking at a hypothetical democracy, I would find the attitude of the former party closer to fascism than anything resembling government by and for the people.

I don't just want to beat these guys any more. I want to crush them. Tomorrow is going to be a very interesting day.

If that's the case, why would they go for the Mormon over the Christian?

Romney gives lip service to banning abortion and gay marriage.

That's a hell of a lot more important than, you know, healing the sick and helping the poor.

When I was a kid, I heard nothing but horrible things about Mormons from my family, extended family, and my parents' church friends. You can imagine how much I hear that stuff today (hint: not at all).

I was browsing RaptureReady last night, and it was hilarious to see them refer to Romney as a "man of God" and basically as God's chosen one. They wouldn't have been saying that stuff before he became the nominee, let me tell you.

Look how blacks vote for Obama compared to whites and tell me which race is more likely voting based on race. It's pretty plain to see.

Yup, because black people don't vote for rich white democrats all the time. And nope, there wasn't a statistically significant amount of white (males) not voting democratic when a black man became their candidate, nope.

You know, I'm a bit surprised that Romney's faith was not brought up a whole lot. I was always under the assumption that many Christians considered Mormonism as not "real" Christianity. However the religious right has Romney's back completely. Are they just that Anti-Obama that they completely ignore this aspect?

There will be only two good things about Romney winning: The Daily Show will be amazing for the next four years, and the tremendous meltdown on the internet, including Gaf and FB.

The downside will probably be entering a full-on Great Depression. :-(

Isn't Obama more of a 'christian' by their books?

First term Bush, yeah. But nothing will be more disappointing than when we elected him again after all the crap he pulled. That was the lowest point my faith in our voting population has reached, and will hopefully ever reach.

Even if Obama does win tomorrow I'm still not looking forward to at least a minimum of two years of grid lock. Obama was quite passive with the debt ceiling fiasco for instance, what will he do differently this time around?

I just found out I got a 15 buck referal bonus from signing a friend up to bwin. was going to put it all on Obama, but I would get 17.70 back from 15 down.

SIGH. Obama is pretty much a sure thing. Bookies are the best people at predicting the future. A favourite that hot isn't going to lose.

i don't get it :\

Arguing about or discussing the ramifications news items will have on the polls has become second nature to a lot of people who are highly invested or closely following this election season. The joke is that, after the election is decided and Obama has hypothetically won, there will be people on the internet discussing the impact that Obama's victory has had on the polls.
