Haha, maybe. But what could Christie have said during the storm to help Mittens? The President could be doing much more to help the citizens of Jersey? That would make him look like a liar.

That's what Fox News is running with and they look ridiculous.

Honestly Christie could have kept his praise a bit less glowing for Obama fairly easily, but Christie knew what he was doing. He looks better in everyone eyes when he's out there working with Obama in a genuine and serious way just the same as Obama looks better. He couldn't give a shit if Mittens won last night, because he's eyeing 2016/2020.

I admit I've been souring on Matthews a bit lately. I used to like his bombastic style but he's gotten to the point where he will barely let his guests get a word in.

God Tier:
Maddow, O'Donnell, Bashir

Platinum Tier:
Schultz, Sharpton (rough around the edge but still awesome)

Trash Tier:
The Cycle - seriously, WTF

Big fan of Thomas Roberts in the mornings too, I feel like he could be the next Brian Williams.
Bashir just annoys me because of his stupid Michael Jackson documentary.

The Congress is still in Republican hands. And after such a defeat they'll probably be even less likely to compromise. What do you guys think, two lame years incoming for Obama?

So dumb question, and apologies if it's been answered...but Nate Silver just about perfect'd this bitch, didn't he?

Both the State by State presidential stuff and the Senate seats?

It's not really Nate Silver who deserves the credit. It's the fact that aggregate polling data from all the states suggested exactly this outcome.

Polling, when done with good methodology, is accurate. Anyone with a statistics background should be able to average polling data.

I don't know where you'd even find 3000 people in North Dakota.

After last night's defeat they have to be scared of what America will do in two years if they don't compromise. Bohner knows what must be done, and last night just gives him an excuse to ignore the raving idiots in the Tea Party.

Two years of nothing getting done for sure. We'll see how 2014 turns out. Another 4 years of gridlock is not what this country needs.

Uh, no. You don't know what treason is.

What is up with people throwing treason accusations around lately?

yea I'm disgusted searching for the right word... his words have been inciting irrational hate and behavior of that lowest common denominator of the far right base for years. It is manifesting itself in people talking about revolution, rebellion and rhetoric calling the President of the United States a foreign entity trying to bring down the Republic

so whatever you want to call it, it is disgusting and dangerous behavior all for the sake of ratings and money.

sorry progressive GAF, can not bring myself to just laugh at his bitter tears at the moment :)

Im all for free speech...Everyone deserves that right, but not everyone deserves a microphone. Rush and Hannity need to have vieweriship fall through the floor boards. That kind of fear mongering will have no place in the Republican party if the Republicans take this wonderful opportunity to re-evalute everything from the bottom up.

That's a HUGE part of the daunting task I was talking about. It's not going to be easy though. Right leaning media like FOX, Rush, Hannity etc etc hve driven the narritive and forced the parties direction as much as anyone else. Maybe more. It's gonna be hard to change if the talking heads are still screaming for a move further to the right.

I must admit I find all this talk about moving out of the country a bit amusing. I have my cousins posting about four more years of suffering, my nieces wanting to move to Ireland, friends saying it's time to go to Mexico. I mean, really? Do yo really think those places are going to be better for you. You're 13 years old! All you really know about suffering is whose boyfriend is who and how many pimples are on your face. Oh, wait, I guess that is pretty bad.

I remember I was in high school when Bill Clinton was elected. I came from a very conservative republican family who did not hide the fact that they hated Clinton and that they thought he was a bad man. I remember waking up the morning he won and feeling terrified. But all that was due to the negative talk I was surrounded by. I look back at it now and realized nothing bad happened to me, I still lived my life day to day. I still have wonderful happy memories that had nothing to do with who was the president. I know I will continue to live each day and continue to make wonderful memories with my kids. I refuse to live in fear and in a bubble. I realize that a lot of work still needs to be done with our government but that will always be the case. I didn't think either candidate was perfect but I did like one more than the other and he won. Still if it had been reversed and Romney had won, I probably would have done some eye rolling, face palming and say "what were you thinking people!" But then I would just move on and live day to day like I always do. And find more things to laugh and smile at.

Bush tax cuts expire in January along with huge defense cuts. That seems like a good reason for the GOP to compromise. If not, oh well, I guess the deficit just fell to 1% of GDP, and Obamacare still goes up in 2014.

More or less, yeah. Basically if Florida goes to Obama, he actually undershot. Likewise, if the Dems get the last two senate seats that are still in play then he was spot on there.

I love that FOX News is now losing its shit about CO and WA legalizing marijuana even though it's illegal federally. Isn't the right wing supposed to be all about states rights over federalism?

Nate Silver ran the numbers, Nate Silver broadcast his results to the world, Nate Silver took massive heat from all directions.

He absolutely deserves credit, even if he was a bit underconfident.

The Democrats are more about State's Rights than the Republicans at this point.

They are? Huh. All I seemed to hear from Romney and other GOP folks during this campaign was about taking power away from the federal government and devolving it back to the states.

In other news FOX News just ran a promo for tonight's O'Reilly Factor promising "political insight from Dick Morris". FUCKING LOL

Seriously though it's pretty funny that so many white evangelicals who consider social issues the most important thing overwhelmingly voted for the ticket that had a Mormon and catholic instead of the ticket with the protestant.

There is still power in the executive branch though, but I concede that executive orders can only go so far. The Senate and the President will obviously also shut down anything the GOP tries to pass if they don't scratch their back first, and we may see a couple of Supreme Court appointments (hopefully).

He definitely needs to get more aggressive now that he's on his second term though.

The Republican's only say "state's rights!" until it's something they're involved with, then they want to control it at the federal level (marriage, marijuana, etc)

The Dems are at least consistent which which stuff they want federal and which stuff they want state level.

What was Rush's reaction today?

Surprisingly muted. I thought Rush was going to throw Romney under the bus like he immediately threw McCain under the bus. Instead of that he pretty much doubled down on Romney love, saying there's nobody more qualified to be president, what a wonderful man, blah blah blah.

Rush claims that there is no point in reaching out to women and minorities -- because apparently having some women and hispanics speak at the Republican National Convention did not help to capture the female/black/latino vote. Says that even if Republicans gave away birth control and opened the borders, they still wouldn't get votes. He says that young people would not vote Republican even if their platform was to forgive all student debt.

After that it was the usual bit about how Obama wins because people are lazy and don't want to work, and they would rather have Santa-Obama give them their living rather than be responsible for themselves.

Overall though I'd say the show had a much more downbeat tone than in 2008 (the last time I listened). After Obama's first victory, Rush was immediately strategizing and envisioning a way to take back the White House (TRUE CONSERVATIVES - NO MORE PHONY MODERATES LIKE MCCAIN!). This time he isn't even mapping a path to victory, he's just rambling about how awful everything is going to be, blaming the media, etc, etc.

Biden's Catholic, too. And Obama is obviously Muslim.

Gawd, I hope you are wrong. Its my hope the Republicans stay on the canvass long enough to re-evaluate just what their message is and how to stay relevant in national politics. (ie, dropping the social shit, and re-messaging fiscal responsibility).

Give people a hand up, not a handout kind of stuff.

Realize that taxes are going to need to come up. Raise it on the over 250,000? Go for it!
Hell, Bush Sr. did this. Its not rocket science...do this.

making sure others are not enjoying their lives or getting something they maybe don't "deserve" and that we all live a puritan life, like all good frustrated christians, is more important than living true to stated values

He may be an asshole but I agree with him. After sinking a lot of money and time into a race, I think he should see if there was a miscount or some absentee ballots uncounted. I would if it was that close.

Fuck him, him losing was a great cherry on top of last night.

Didn't W Bush do ok with Hispanics? I mean they are socially conservative. I think the problem is they don't like the idea of the GOP sending Grandma and the lady selling tamales on the street corner back to Mexico. I don't think all Republicans are anti immigrants/hispanics, but unless they do some serious work, they will be considered the enemy. They are convinced the GOP is out to fuck em.

Republicans face a crisis: the country is growing less white and their coalition has become more white in recent years. In 2004, George W. Bush won [about 40 percent] of Hispanics. Four years later, John McCain, the author of an immigration reform bill, took 31 percent of Hispanics. And this year, Romney captured only 27 percent of Hispanics.”

He did.

Being from Texas he actually knew how to communicate with them. Romney, just had no idea and let it slide completely.

For the Republicans to remain relevant, they are going to need to see their soul and come up with a truly great Immigration plan.

Mid terms will remove the people who refuse to compromise. Everyone's sick of that stunt already.

Bush's Spanish did make me chuckle, but hey he wasn't that bad at it really.

They'd have my vote >.>

No but seriously, even with all that many won't vote because of their anti-woman/anti-gay/traditional white America agenda.
