It will be interesting to see what Ryan does next and if he can break the streak of losing VP candidates who never recovered. I think it will largely depend on the direction the GOP takes as they figure out how to regroup. They'll either move toward the center (unlikely) or be even further hijacked by the tea party whackjobs, in which case Ryan will probably be fine.

Romney will just retire, POTUS is the only job he wants and he's too rich to need to do anything else. He'll probably just sit on some boards and give some lectures.

Surely the GOP will refocus on the center if they lose this election. There's no way they could think they have another chance doing the same thing if their efforts to double down on the racist, evangelical, and crazy people vote fails this time around.

I'm really hoping for a bitter, spiteful rant, but I know the party marketing team is not quite gone enough to allow that.
This campaign has been so bitter it's really hard to imagine a gracious concession speech from either candidate.

I don't know, at this point I think the GOP's inability to control its own destiny knows any bounds. There's been a lot of talk on right-wing blogs lately about Palin as the future of the party. That would be truly hilarious.

But the racists, evangelicals, and crazy people think they doubled down on the moderates, McCain and Romney

I haven't been in the PoliGAF loop much this cycle. It's hard to tell who just trolling and who is legitimately crazy when you just pop into the random thread. Besides, both such individuals typically are banned pretty quickly.

You definitely haven't spent much time in poligaf this cycle.

Yup, they'll have no other recourse. And most of their potential 2016 presidential candidates are more moderate anyway, so it makes sense.

Ryan's shitty performance at the VP debate won't be forgotten if they lose. I think he disappointed a lot of people who saw him as a bright rising star in the party.

At the same time though, they've shown that they're perfectly fine changing gears and shaking etch-a-sketches whenever they want. A loss for the GOP is ok if it's conceded graciously, and they'll wash away the bad taste people have in their mouths. But if they go spiteful, they'll be digging themselves a hole for the rest of this decade. They're smarter businessmen than that.

How is Christie on social issues? I haven't really looked at that stuff but I really like his style and think he's probably the most viable candidate for 2016 they have. Christie vs Clinton would be pretty epic.

8.6% chance of a Romney win. I guess MBison is an Unskewed Polls devotee to express such confidence in Romney's chances.

When did I express confidence in Romney's chances?

I just posted about my curiosity what the GAF hive mind would put the blame on should Romney win.

When Romney loses the GOP will consider it two straight contests where they swallowed their principles, ran with the moderate, and lost. It won't be until ( if ) they lose the next election that actual soul-searching will occur.

The problem IMO is that I don't think it will work either way for Ryan. I agree that going more moderate isn't what the party will want, but can you really see them putting a bigger hard-ass conservative up there? I don't think that will get them votes with their weak demographics and I really don't think the more conservative voters are withholding votes now because Romney is too close to the middle so there isn't much to gain.

hot hot hanuman-on-man action
if Romney wins, i'm gonna be upset. the GOP is obviously very bad for America and anyone who thinks otherwise is either a wealthy person who doesn't give a fuck or an under-informed voter.

OBAMA 2012 LET'S DO THIS

my prediction:

48 hour ban if I get anything wrong.

I like that you gave Ohio to Obama.

In order to get an equal amount of idiotic statements from the other side you have to cherry pick from lots of different sources. This guy just went to one rally. I assure you the same wouldn't have happened at an Obama rally or else we'd have video of it. All we get is the Obama phone video and a few other isolated occurrences.

See now you're just making excuses. Yeah I'm sure this guy for Stern had to really scour the country to make this recording and I'm sure you wouldn't find ANY more of these idiot Obama voters. Dude, come on. These people didn't even know who the candidates are! Lady thought Ryan (obviously doesn't know who he actually is) is Obamas running mate!

The people who voted for him? For getting my hopes up for a very likely obama victory, I would blame poor polling.

Just off the top of my head, I believe NJ has legalized marijuana and banned gay marriage in recent years, so not great, but not as bad as most of the party.

When he has the room to breath better than his peers. But who knows who he would be appealing to in a presidential election.

It's weird when you troll people unintentionally. I started playing with the map and found it amusing seeing Texas blue and NY red. I thought I would share it. I like my tag because it alerts people to the fact that anything outrageous I say is not meant to be taken seriously, but apparently it doesn't work 100% of the time.

You must lead a very exciting life.

It sounds like someone just went on the street to talk to homeless people or people at the welfare line or some shit. Not equivalent to going to a rally for a presidential candidate where the people there should know a bit more.

What Howard Stern did is no different than what Jay Leno does in that one segment I forget the name of. Again, actually going to a rally for the candidate is different.

Say it with me now: False. Equivalence.

He vetoed a gay marriage bill in Jersey. Said civil unions with privileges the same as marriage(which I believe Jersey currently has) were good enough and the issue should be voted on as a referendum.

Leno ripped off that bit from Stern. Jaywalking, he calls it.

For a different video with slightly less ridiculous participants, see this thread:

Meant to do this earlier in the day, but I thought a few people might find this amusing. Living in Ohio, our landline is ringing off the hook with survey calls (which we don't answer at this point, like many other people in Ohio sick to death of them, sorry poll-focused people). Well, I picked up the mail today, and was greeted with this. Keep in mind this is just today's:

Every single one of those says, right on the front, "Paid for by the Ohio Republican Party." There was one single piece that didn't:

Dick Morris has been on Fox News talking total landslide for Romney. Plus he's planting the seed for the left to complain about republicans suppressing the vote -- as if it's not true that they've been attempting this. lol
