amazing!!!

Election time, come on grab your friends.
We're voting for hope of distance change.
With Mitt the Dog and Bams the human,
the fun will never end, Election Time!

It's only going to get more strange from here.

I'm on my iPad ATM, copy/pasting isn't the easiest on here. Suffice to say that most of them are family or friends I made when I was a youth minister at a southern baptist church, so you can probably guess a lot of what is getting posted. Ranging from "this country can't survive 4 more years of Obamtard." to slightly more derogatory remarks. My favorite though are the people saying, go vote! Then reply to themselves, for Romney.

Most of my SC friends are sadly apolicitcal and all the posts are just urging people to vote no matter what

Same here in Sweden except it's on a sunday. Having to vote in the middle of the week seems kind of stupid.

Middle of the week here in the UK, although it took me a minute both times I've voted.

Lots of polling stations (I live in a relatively small town, and there were around 2/3 polling stations).

Ridiculous that people are having to queue for such a long time.

For me, this is less about the president for the next four years, and more about the justice(s) they'll put into the Supreme Court for the next few decades. That's what's really at stake here.

On holiday in New York here, from Britain. Our hotel is right near "democracy plaza" by NBC. Is it worth checking it out throughout the day today? What time would be best

Voted. Stood in line for roughly an hour. When I mean roughly I mean an hour and 20 minutes.

So amazing to see that many people vote! They had extra space this year for people to vote as well! Ah democracy

That is one of the most important things that we're voting on and one reason why I'll almost always break Democrat, no matter the candidate.

?!?! Then why are you not voting for him? Look I understand people have convictions and feel like they voted for x/y/z independent candidate because it fits more with their views. However if you are terrified that Romney will be elected, why are you voting for someone other than Obama?
Maybe they don't live in the states?

I think part of it is everyone rushing to vote at the same time before work. Later in the day it will not be such an issue. Personally I am not too worried since there are probably 200-300 people registered to vote in my town and there is little chance of there ever being a line.

Ah, I guess I didn't think of that, yeah.

Guys, I have a question. I won't be able to vote tonight until 7:00. Ohio polls close at 7:30. If I'm in line at 7:00, can they legally turn me away from voting if I haven't gotten up there by 7:30? I have that all-important-Ohio vote, so I need to vote :p . Hoping the line isn't very long....

If you are in line before they close you cannot be turned away.

As long as you're in line by closing time, you should be allowed to vote.

I hate to say it but the fact that there is a number of people out there who feel like this is really fucking sad.

The entire point of a judge of SCOTUS is that they're NOT political figures and judge things unbiasedly as according to law. It really makes me sad that this isn't the case in the US.

If you are in line when the polling places are suppose to close you can still vote. They will just cut off the line and no one else should be able to join it.

Of course I woke up today feeling worse than I've felt in a month.

Grrr...

...1st...Rite Aid
...2nd..vote by 8:00am

Slightly OT - watching some FOX this morning. Why is it the best "business owners" that are suffering under Obamacare always some bullshit fast food franchise operator that pays thier employees minimum wage.

No offense to anyone that owns a franchise... But you didn't build that. :p

Watching CNN you'd think every single battleground state is the tightest race ever, and every single senate race is so close it's razor sharp. I wonder how long until they also list all the more important amendments and propositions up for vote as both the closest and most important thing ever in the history of politics.

Was just watching a stream of Fox News to get an idea for the 'other side'. Hilarious drivel.

They could not stop talking about the US economy and how Romney will 'fix' it. Do they have any idea how big a bullet Obama dodged? Don't they realise how entrenched the US is within the worldwide economy and financial system at large ? If these guys would leave their little bubble for 5 minutes and travel the world, they'd see how great the US is recovering compared to most of western Europe.

What ungrateful idiots.

Haha. Man. You're completely wrong on what I said. I said that classical liberals have done really well. John Howard won 4 consecutive elections. The democrats who are classically liberal performed very well for a minor party before they exploded. Australia has a long and proud tradition of liberalism and its tenants. (Small government, civil liberties, democracy, etc).

Not sure if the Aussies in the thread are aware, but the dynamics of the US parties, but (in simple terms):

Republicans are for minimal taxes and reducing the role of government in helping people, companies, and institutions they look down upon (gays, minorities, reformed criminials, poor people, feminists, energy that isn't oil/coal, the Environmental Protection Agency, the Department of Education, and the UN, for example). Meanwhile, they are interventionist militarily and on individual (non-monetary, non-gun) freedoms (gay marriage, abortion, and other "moral" issues, like not having enough G-d in society). They believe that the free market provides optimal solutions in all cases, and that social programs, unions,, higher taxes, and high taxes stifle innovation and the motivation to be prosperous.

Democrats are for government intervening socially (helping the poor, elderly, unemployed, elderly, minorities, sick, etc.) and through regulations on businesses (because they believe the free market is insufficient to prevent businesses behaving ethically, safely, and responsibly with regards to accounting, employees, the environment, etc.). They believe that wealthy people should pay more "dues" because they benefit the most from the underlying infrastructure, education, low-profit research, patent system, court system, rule of law, and other things that government provides. Meanwhile, they believe government should stay out of (non-weapons) individual freedoms.

I'm sure conservatives will have a different view, but I think that's a fair assessment.

It's a very odd combination for outside observers.

They are appointed and approved by politicians. Whether they should be biased is irrelevant. The reality is that they are.

My mom is nervous about NY-28... for some reason. It's a safe Democrat district but she's concerned the challenger will beat the incumbent who's been our representative for decades.
