Correct, and Davos is the only man in Westeros who knows he's in Lys.
Aegon arrived just in time for that not to be necessary anyway. Mace won't risk besieging Storm's End again, and it's much easier for both sides if he just marries Margaery to Aegon.
And then we'd get to see her become a widow for the fourth time because Aegon will surely die also.

It would lead to a splintered realm without an actual claimant with rights to throne. Faegon would qualify, though even then I'd be skeptical of his ability to enforce his authority on most of the 7 Kingdoms.

Wouldn't Stannis become the best claimant then? Only like 10 people know of Aegon and even some of them doubt hes the real deal.

TWOW spoilers
Aegon takes Storm's End early in TWOW, and an army is sent from KL to re-take it. I'm going to assume it's led by Randyl Tarly, given Mace's comments in the ADWD epilogue about not leaving the capital until Maegery's trial is finished.

Tarly was a Targ loyalist and fought with Jon Connington, so I'd imagine he will at least want to meet with Connington just to see if it's really him; his behavior/comments in the epilogue were pretty strange to me. I'd bet money that he'll switch alliances if Aegon promises him The Reach...which is currently unprotected due to Garlan Tyrell leading a force to the Shield Isles to deal with Euron. It's the perfect opportunity for betrayal. Aegon could cut off The Reach from King's Landing and put KL to siege. Or he could simply rely on Tarly to re-enter KL, open the gates and put the city to sword...

(obligatory sorry Cornballer, I'll move this convo to the book thread)

Indeed. I wonder if someone will execute her for treason. No matter who wins the throne, she will have married at least 3 usurpers.

He already is.

Thronies! Rise up! Please be sure to vote in the Fourth Annual 2014 GAF TV Show of the Year Voting Thread! Game of Thrones has been voted the #2 best show for 3 years running, and now that Breaking Bad (the 3 year reigning champ) is over, the spot is wide open for Game of Thrones! #TrueDetectiveIsNotRight
Thanks for the reminder, but I won't vote GoT lol

I know about that preview chapter, but we don't know if that's true and how it happened.
Dany's visions pretty much tell us Aegon eventually takes KL, either through compromise or battle. I do agree that Tarly is a strong candidate for one of the 'friends in the reach'.

This could be the wrong place to ask, but I just started reading the first book after having watched all four seasons of Game Of Thrones.

I'm looking at the map at the beginning of the first book, and I've been able to make sense of a lot of the locations (as in I look at the location of a city/castle and think, Yep that sounds about right) like The Wall, Winterfell, Pyke, Dreadfort, the Eyrie.

I can't find King's Landing or Harrenhall on the map though. Am I just being dense, heh? I guess those two locations aren't in that map, are they?

I'm really surprised at the locations of Highgarden and Dorne (especially Dorne). For some reason I assumed Dorne would be in the Eastern part of that universe (with Qarth, Braavos, Yunkai, etc...).

I got TWOIAF for Christmas and I'm in love with it. The conflicting accounts of various events are so fun, and really make the universe seem all the more real. The nods to book-readers were great.

Someone from WoTW pointed out that we got a featurette at around the same time last year and the first trailer in mid January. Hopefully we'll only have to wait a few weeks for the first S5 trailer.

It's HBO's biggest show, so I'd be surprised if they didn't ratchet up the promotion sometime soon.

Season 5 is both incredibly exciting and terrifying for me at the same time since we don't really know for sure where things are going aside from a couple plotlines. Hopefully D&D can actually improve upon AFFC and ADWD in the areas where they were lacking (don't you dare say they already did by removing the Greyjoys, they would have made for great TV with the right actors). Hopefully they won't do anything stupid like (Book Diversion)

I just got to the part where Robert forces Ned to kill Lady in book one and I teared up... :( I thought I'd be prepared for that after seeing almost the exact scene play in the show. I hope the red wedding has the same impact on me when I eventually get to it in the book (and I've seen that in the show too, to be clear).

So, got Martins Ice Dragon book for Xmas. Curious - what time period and setting is this supposed to take place in? First chapter mentions an inn on the crossroads so, near the Trident/Kingsroad? Dragon riders exist so sometime between Aegons reign and Dance of the Dragons?
Probably way too early timeframe, but my first thought was that the main character Adara eventually becomes the Night Kings "Other Wife"?
Or am I way off and nothing is connected?

So, absolutely no tie-in to ASoIaF? Ok. Weird. Figured there'd be some link to the main series since its advertised as being in the GoT universe...

To sell more copies of course.

It might be one of Old Nan's stories. Maybe. Jon thinks about Ice Dragon in Dance.

Probably just an easter egg.

Well that's anti-climactic. Maybe D&D are just throwing money around to get random cameos from actors they want.

Does Mr Eko really come with that high of a price tag, though? That being said, this entire series has pretty much been random actor cameos for the last little while anyway...

Is there any way to personally contact this Martin guy and tell him to hurry it up?

I read all the books in December 2013 figuring the next one would be out soon...a year later and not even a release date.

Consider yourself lucky if it comes out before April 2016.

Lolololol.
I'm dead serious. He predicted in June 30, 2006 that he was going to release ADWD by the end of that year. Instead the book was released on July 11, 2011, 5 years after that update and 6 after the previous book.
You can guess how much progress he's making with 10000 times the number of distractions, no progress updates whatsover and grim predictions by his own publisher.
Even his editor said he didn't receive numerous paychecks because he missed the deadlines so far.

Has there even been a drop of information on his status since early summer or comic con? I feel like things have been quiet for so long... Not sure if that's even a good thing or not.

He's supposed to have been working on The Winds of Winter ever since then.

An interesting tidbit he'd mentioned before (I can't remember where I read this), was that he'd write another script for GoT maybe next year if he's done with TWOW by then, which usually happens around March-June. So, the fact that the book (or at least a draft) might be finished by March or April is entirely possible.

Either way, the release date is still likely going to be 2016, since the logistics required to release one of the most anticipated books of the year take a long time to sort out. If it releases next year, 2016 will be confirmed to be the best year for fantasy books in a long, long time with TWOW, Doors of Stone, and Stormlight Archive Book 3.

Stone heart has to be in. Why bother setting up the brother hood without banners and going in depth about resurrection.

So that they can resurrect someone more important later on in the snow. The Brotherhood had an important role in splitting Arya from Hot Pie and Gendry as well as the Red God stuff with Thoros. They also fleshed out the story of the war a bit more and gave it more impact.

I do wonder what Brienne will do next, maybe she meets up with the brotherhood or continues searching for Sansa. Maybe she heads north after learning Arya is to be wed at winterfell.

Nothing. Said he won't give progress updates ever again after the ADWD fiasco.

TWOW will be a much bigger release than ADWD, but that's not what'll make it a long wait. He delivered the ADWD manuscript April 27 and the book was released on July 11, 2011. That's less than 2 months, and I remember news about people receiving copies weeks before the release in Germany.
Unlike George, I'm pretty sure his editor and his publishers will work as hard as they can to release the book shortly after the maniscrupt is delivered.

Honestly I'm glad that HBO could give a fuck less and will continue the show no matter what.

I think i like the show better anyways

yes, but hopefully, GRRM gets a little Motivated because the TV Series is getting ahead of HIS Story.

Or maybe not, maybe he thinks "fuck it all" and takes even more time because, no matter what he does, the TV Series will be ahead of him. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I don't see how anyone could look forward to the show making up an ending to a story created by George, but to each his own

Tommen and Myrcella dying would lead to a king by conquest situation. It would likely lead to a Tyrell king or queen, given that they have the largest army and already are in the capital. A Lannister claimant could rise but I doubt it would work.

Ultimately I think Tommen and Myrcella will die during or after Aegon's ascension. If Tommen and Myrcella die before Aegon takes the throne the Tyrell scenario makes a lot of sense. Maergery becomes defacto queen and offers to marry Aegon, who would more than likely reject her.

Stannis is next in line of they both die. GRRM has made it clear that conquest can be more important than heredity, but it's possible he could take the throne peacefully.

King James of Scotland was not best friends with the English people when he inherited their kingdom peacefully.

Personally, I love the idea of Danaerys inheriting dynastically. She's actually next in line after Stannis and Shireen. While I love both of those Baratheons, I can't see either of them surviving TWOW.

Well, I don't look forward to the show per, as it's no longer my cup of tea, but I don't mind spoilers and it should tell us whether the ending sucks or not.
For instance, if it's Jonerys living happily ever after, it'll save me the effort of reading another 3000 pages to get a shitty soap opera at the end.

Not really. The Baratheon claim relies on the assumption that House Targaryen lost their right to the throne. If both Stannis and Shireen die, Edric Storm is next in line. However, the most likely outcome is that once both are dead, Stannis' men will declare for Jon once his ancestry is revealed, as they'd have no one else to join.

Edric Storm is an illegitimate bastard. He has no more legal right to the throne than Moon Boy.

I do think that Stannis will, against all the odds, survive in all the books. I mean, that's his character's running theme: He's the unlikeable underdog that ends up resisting in extremely adverse circumstances. That being said, I don't think that he will ever sit on the Iron Throne. Too much duty-bound, me thinks.
