I'm no fan of Paul Ryan, but people calling hypocrisy on Ryan for claiming that Obama has acted too late should look back to see if they criticized Romney when he raised the spectre of Russia four years ago, and we all collectively laughed at him.

Remember... "The 1980s are calling and they want their foreign policy back..." https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T1409sXBleg

ANd here we are.

"Oh but it was different then!"

No, it wasn't, Russia was meddling then, but at the time we all celebrated guys like Julian Assange leaking classified documents because they were helping our guys, while Russia was strategizing to invade Crimea.

Is Paul Ryan still leaving? I remember reading that he was bailing after the elections, though I imagine having all this power will make him reconsider.

House Speaker Paul Ryan, a Republican, called the sanctions "overdue," adding that it is an "appropriate way to end eight years of failed policy with Russia."
"Russia does not share America's interests," he said in a statement Thursday. "In fact, it has consistently sought to undermine them, sowing dangerous instability around the world. While today's action by the administration is overdue, it is an appropriate way to end eight years of failed policy with Russia. And it serves as a prime example of this administration's ineffective foreign policy that has left America weaker in the eyes of the world."

WHat's most embarrassing about Ryan's response is just for fucking once you want the House Speaker to stand with the President against foreign antagonism.

Will be interesting to see how Donald deals with this. Rolling back anything is just going to strengthen the belief that he is Putin's puppet

Stopped clock. Worrying about Russia four years ago would have been like worrying about Syria four years ago. Arab Spring was sweeping across the region and Russia was about to collapse because of sanctions and falling gas prices.

No, it wasn't, Russia was meddling then, but at the time we all celebrated guys like Julian Assange leaking classified documents because they were helping our guys, while Russia was strategizing to invade Crimea.

Crimea only happened because Russia was losing control in Ukraine following the (second) ouster of Yanukovych.

Yeah, Paul Ryan is deplorable, but this statement could have been so much worse. I hope he turns on Trump second he is sworn in.

They will have to turn on somebody, they've spent 8 years with the schtick of "these people in power are fucking everything up!!!" Now they are all in total power... so where does their schtick go then?

or, How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Realize This Assgrab is Delicious
Putin's popularity among conservatives actually went UP during these last three weeks, so they'll likely see it as a positive for mending the bridges that Obama burned over these last few weeks. Or some other shit these conservatives hacks will make up to sour this move.
I agree there's a certain green light given by the republicans to be friendly towards Russia... but the longer the republicans act as the party of Russian subservience, it will grow into a chink in their armour.

It's all fun and games celebrating the meme of Putin and Trump's bromance.... but let this fester for awhile and it will grow into a liability. I imagine conservatives themselves will begin to wake up to the hypocracy. Reagan will appear in their dreams to haunt them.

Its interesting to check twitter and see the right wing nuts/paid russian trolls going nuts over this.

This is exactly what people are already claiming.

Even this thread, or forum, won't be long. We'll get a "just asking questions" post or a crazy post that derails the thread and conversation. All to move off the actual topic and into proving some troll wrong or ridicule them.

And a bit later we'll get a twitter post by Trump on some unrelated topic that will dominate media and attract attention to something else.

Looking for meaning in GAF
I'm pretty sure America's interactions with Russia over the last eight years are not why people are considering America weaker these days.

kaching

"GAF's biggest wanker"
that's...what he's doing?

he's taking a huge political risk by what is essentially a stand against Trump
His statement is so utterly backhanded, it leaves the door wide open for the Reps to do the exact opposite and make it seem like they're taking a stronger stance against Russia. He's not risking a thing.

Paul Ryan is a real shitbag.

Glad something was done, since you know Trump's going to be rolling over and bowing to Putin's every command in a month.

I hate trump as much as the next guy. But Obama is acting like a hypocrite cunt. Like the US have never fiddled with any ... wait they have never hacked ...wait they have never done anything remotely simil... wait.

Pissing of other countries just to fuck with the opposing parties candidates / pres is low.

Or am I'm missing something here?

So if the election was messed with, why is there no re-election? Surely the result needs to be overturned as it is deemed non accurate?

Yep, you are missing something.

Obama is still POTUS.

What has been done in the past isn't a reason to let your country be fucked by Tsar Midget and his army of trolls.
