US: Gamestop giving $50 extra trade credit for PS4, Xbox One, Wii U

how could I keep my ps4 stuff? Just back it up to an external drive, trade it in, then reinstall on a pro?

If I could trade in my spare wii u and my current ps4 and get a pro for another $50 that wouldn't be a bad deal.
 
Tempted to trade in my Wii U, but then I'll lose access to Bayonetta 2 and Wonderful 101. What are the chances of Switch versions of these games? Very low I would think
 
Wasn't going to jump on the Pro til next year, but this ain't a bad deal and OG PS4 values aren't gonna go up.
 
Just won a PS4 at work the other day and I already have one. Don't think I'll be able to beat $175. Might have to make a trip in the AM before work. Wish there was a GameStop closer to where I live.

Digital wise? It is annoying but possible to have licenses and NNID transferred to a new system. You have to call nintendo.

I just haven't played mine in so long, it's literally back in the box. For this price, I'll sell. I don't see myself playing it again. Can always use the credit on a switch!

What will be the "gamecube component cables" of the wiiU? the extended gamepad battery? like the component cables, you can only buy them online directly through nintendo.
 
Damn, do I trade in my Wii U? I always regret trading in my systems. I traded in my GC and games and DS lite and games and I regretted it years later. It made so much sense at the time because I always did it to buy a new console. I have no clue what to do. I would buy a switch then. If I keep my Wii U then no switch for me, I am all PC right now.

Is this about getting a better deal, or not supporting Gamestop? Not really seeing the used PS4's going for more than this on Craigslist in a quick search of my area (NYC). Seems a hell of a lot easier to walk in to Gamestop with a PS4 and walk out with a PS4 Pro or console of choice than to deal with Craigslist...unless of course, there's more to the suggestion than savings.
 
Are we crashing their website right now? It seems to be moving really slowly. I was going to do CL, but I probably wouldn't do better than $200 at this point.
 
Restoring my PS4 Pro from my old PS4. Or the 1tb hdd in the og ps4 and slapped my 2tb inside the pro. Probably will hold off until the switch to sell anything tho.
 
$125 for a fatty xbone... i'll pass on that. Looks like i'm stuck with the fatty. Gonna keep it till it's big bro scorpio comes out
 
175 is pretty good for an OG PS4, I don't think you can sell one for much more than that used unless you want to include a lot of extras. I'd love to go get a Pro but I don't really have any money right now so this is probably going to pass me by. But it's a fair trade in value for how easy they make it.

Normally I would agree, but it normally trades in for $125 and it's been that way for a bit now. Regardless of "trade X for X" promotions, trade values at Gamestop tend to decrease over time.

Heck, I was thinking about getting the PS4 Pro before it was announced and traded my launch unit to Gamestop. At the time, they were running deals towards the Xbox One S and gave me $200 cash. Now they'll only give $175 in store credit a few months later.
 
If the Switch could run everything the Wii U does I might consider this.

But the Wii U will always be my Wonderful 101 machine.

If you have super fast and data cap free internet, you can just backup all your saves to the cloud (or a usb drive), trade it in, and then restore the saves and redownload the games. By default your PS4 should be backing stuff up to the cloud with PS+ anyways. Mark all the games to install before you go to bed, put it to sleep, and when you wake up everything is back to normal.

You can also backup the entire system to a USB drive, takes a few hours though. Then restore on a new system from the drive, it restores everything including login settings, network settings, etc. If you have stuff like PT you pretty much have to do this.

The wii u is a tough and personal choice. I don't really play old games so I don't have any nostalgia for keeping old systems around, plus emulators seem to get better and better every year. I traded my wii u in last year and zero regrets, I'm excited for switch and 99% of the games from wii u I like I'm pretty sure will get switch ports, just like the majority of ps3/360 games have gotten remasters or BC on xbone. Of course the more esoteric games will probably not, like I imagine bayonetta or W101 will not get a switch port.

Also, does Gamestop require anything special in terms of how I bring in the PS4. Can I just throw the PS4, controller, power cable, and HDMI cable in a bag and call it day?

you shouldnt need a usb cable but some employees say you needed some dont.

Is not "gone".
Unless Switch ends backwards compatible with Wii U, you'll need to buy a Wii U again and contact Nintendo.

Though selling it at this point, to buy it again later wouldn't make sense.
 
$125 for og 500gb xb1 seem like a rip off? i have that, xb1s, ps4, and wii u. i was planning on a pro for horizon, and i guess now for TLG. id trade the wii u, but its in my son's room and i got him pokken tournament for xmas. og xb1+ps4 for $250 trade-in so $150 to upgrade to pro. worth it?

Not at this time of year, when there are so many deals going around for trade ins.

With the EB Games trade promo when the PS4 Pro came out, I got $260 for my OG PS4 towards the Pro. Since that is pre-tax dollars I would have needed to sell my PS4 for at least $300 just to match it, but then I would have had to worry about posting my ad and finding a buyer. Instead I just walked into EB and walked out with a Pro in 10 minutes, no hassle.

You can just deactivate your PS4 under settings, playstation network per this article

After that you can just do a quick re-initialization of the PS4 to erase the saves under system, then go through setup and let it create User1 as a login to the PS4, that way when you take it in they can quickly verify its working instead of having to spend 10 mins going through setup. Shouldn't take more than 5-10 mins.

Even if you forget to deactivate your PS4, like I did, you can deactivate ALL your playstations once every 6 months on the Sony website. I had to do that since I forgot to deactivate my PS4 and couldn't activate my PS4 Pro as my primary system until the old one was deactivated.

How? Unless you are waiting in line during a busy time of the day, I don't understand how it could.

I walk in, hand them my console and say I'd like to trade towards X with promo Y. They scan the old console, check the contents of the box, scan my card, take down my ID info and I pay the difference. Unless there was something suspicious about the console (or you?), then I don't see how that could take longer than 15 minutes.

I put the original 500GB hdd back in my PS4 before I traded it in, and then swapped my 1TB SSHD in the Pro when I got it.

If the PS4 is brand new in the box take it to Walmart for giftcards adding up to the amount in exchange. Don't trade a brand new PS4 into Gamestop for 175 credit when you can get more from Walmart.

That's very helpful, thanks. Don't I want a full re-initialization though to err on the side of caution, or is that really not necessary? I don't have any private data on there so I don't care about that, but I don't want the games on the drive to be recoverable or anything.
 
God damn, that's a great TiV for Wii U but I can't think of $175 of stuff I'd need from GameStop. They don't sell office chairs do they? Lol

I'm a regular- they usually don't even test my stuff when I trade systems at my normal store
 
Wait a second, when did Wii U go up to $125?? I sold mine back when it dropped to $90 from $100 this summer. I didn't want to lose even more money on that thing. Damn.

I didn't think values ever went up at GameStop other than ocasional promotions.
 
Tempted to upgrade to a Pro, gotta do my transfer research.

For whatever reason, my PS+ save data uploads always say failed and I never bothered looking into why or how to fix it.
