Trying to frame Pence as an OK guy is a terrible idea. He honestly might be nicer about it but a lot of his ideas are even more terrifying than Trump. Pence needs to be dragged on all the horrific shit he has done. This entire ticket needs to look like the looney mix of bad ideas and independents cannot be comfortable supporting any part of this ticket.

It feels like Kaine and Pence haven't gotten a lot of coverage. And by that I mean it feels like they've barely gotten any coverage since they were announced as the VP candidates.

Outside of Palin, VPs never do. Do you remember who Romney's VP pick was without really thinking about it. Kerry's?

I'm a little upset at myself that I can't remember Kerry's without googling it.

Edit: And after looking it up now I'm really upset at myself. Dunno how I forgot that.

i think strategically Kaine should continue Hillary and Obama's appeal to Republicans by saying something to the effect of "I have my disagreements with Mike Pence, but on the whole he's a committed public servant and would make a good Republican nominee. The problem is that this is Donald Trump's ticket, and we all know that if they are elected, Trump will not heed the advice of Pence and other Republicans, he'll do whatever he wants whenever he wants"

Pence is a smokescreen and to the extent that smokescreen helps Republicans get behind Trump, that's a line of attack.

Meanwhile interest groups can attack Pence'a extreme conservatism and dismal record as governor.

Yikes. The constant appraising of "normal" Republicans and effort to expunge the GOP of any guilt in creating the monster that is Trump has been one of the worst parts of this campaign. It doesn't seem to sway Republican voters, and it probably depresses the enthusiasm of Dem voters. Only the Democrats would so expertly fumble at a golden opportunity to tarnish their political rivals name for a generation. There isn't a chance in hell the GOP would have been so kind had the Dems nominated the left wing equivalent of Trump.

Do we know who was preparing Kaine for this debate? The conversations have all focused on Trump and Hillary while the VPs have been ignored on this front I think.

Paul Ryan's been a pretty public figure, so he's not the forgettable type. But.... Yeah. Can't remember Kerry's VP pick.

I follow politics more closely than the average person and I'm extremely familiar with Paul Ryan, but I seriously sat here for 5 minutes trying to remember who Romney chose as a running mate and came up completely blank. I 100% completely forgot who John Edwards even was, as well.

Feel the same about this. Dems don't need them and should just focus on maximising Democrat enthusiasm.

Oh I remember John Edwards well; he had the very public affair and criminal charges a few years after the election. He seemed so milquetoast during the election, so it was kind of a shock.

LOL, you guys reminded me of John Edwards, he let himself get owned by Darth Vader

I am glad that John Edwards is distant notch in forgotten history, he almost damaged his own party in 2008

HELL no.

Kaine is somewhat liberal despite being a devout Catholic. He supports a woman's right to choose.

Pence is a homophobic nightmare who would force women who get abortions to hold a funeral for the unborn baby and wants the government to use taxpayer dollars to support organizations that perform anti-LGBT conversion therapies.

From Pence's 2000 run platform:

Oh I see. Should be fun to watch then.

Mike Pence: from Indiana

EDIT: OMG, supporters have posters of that stupid frog in the background on CNN

More accurate to say Tim Kaine is pro choice: he has personal reservations against people having an abortion that don't interact with his politics. He's also very publicly anti-death penalty and pro gun control.

Pence: Pro-Gay conversion therapy, just had a law struck down by appellate courts for being discriminatory, is on record multiple times as saying there's no link between tobbacco and cancer, thinks Mulan is liberal propaganda. There's more, of course. Suffice to say he's an effusive piece of shit.

I don't know anything about them. First impression is that something seems off with Kaines face, maybe too much "cozy-daddy" and Pence looks like a Bond villain.

I'm trying to imagine Trump's reaction if Pence is perceived as losing the debate. Will he turn on Pence?

Tim Kaine Invites Lesbian Couple to Attend VP Debate

The couple are Carol Schall and Mary Townley, who were plaintiffs in a lawsuit that led to Virginia's ban on same-sex marriage being overturned. Their daughter, Emily Schall Townley, is also a guest.
After decades of the GOP beating us over the head with these issues, these wedge issues now cut in favor of the Democrats. I'd love to see this wielded against Pence.

Good, as a gay man, that really offended me when he said that. He almost tanked his state by signing that shit into law.

I will be watching the great Governor @Mike_Pence and live tweeting the VP debate tonight starting at 8:30pm est! Enjoy!

this should be fun

Yeah, that won't be him at the controls this time. I was hoping for random Trump tweets but that sounds like his handlers have control of his account at least for the debate. Damn. I wanted Pence to contradict him in a way he felt compelled to immediately respond.

Paul Ryan and John Edwards...hard to forget after his corruption and live child scandals. Uncle Joe before that...my memory's limit is Geraldine Ferraro on the Dem side

John Edwards needs to be burned into the memory of every Democrat. He is the single biggest argument for Superdelegates.

Biden eviscerated Paul Ryan during their debate. He made him look like a child completely out of his league. Now the GOP golden boy has been forced to be the Speaker of the most dysfunctional House the country has probably ever seen and eat Trump's shit until election day.

We're all agreed that Pence is a death eater right? The creep casts the symbol over his house nightly for sure.

This debate worries me. Kaine is awkward as fuck every time I see him speak. I remain baffled on his selection. Warren or Sanders would destroy Pence. Not so confident here.
