GameSpy:
4.5/5 "Great!"
"Valkyria Chronicles is a powerful reason for role-playing gamers to spend the next few weeks on the PlayStation 3. Having seen the game in action some time ago, we expected something visually stunning, but we were impressed by the strength of the game's storyline and gameplay. It's easily one of the best looking games we've played this year, but thankfully there's plenty of strategic depth and engrossing gameplay to back it up."
Game Informer:
8.5/10 Second opinion 8.75/10
"There are some things you never knew you wanted in a strategy game. The third-person view does wonders to get you invested in every decision, and its great to have a worthwhile story. The gorgeous presentation and versatile combat make Valkyria Chronicles one of the best surprises of the year. It may not have been on your radar before, but you definitely shouldnt let it pass you by."
"Valkyria Chronicles is a sleeper hit, and a must for any strategy nut."
Thanks, added to the OP.APZonerunner said:And Another from an RPG dedicated site:

"Valkyria Chronicles is truly a genre defining, revolutionary new take on the RPG genre. Even viewed as a strategy RPG, its excitingly and stunningly fresh, and manages to stand out from the crowd not only by being different but by having an interesting story and beautiful graphics. It might be different, and it might not follow the strict RPG rules to the letter but give it a try. You might well find the change is long overdue."

I'll buy it. Even if the map sucks. It's the easiest way to donate money to SEGA while showing them which of their efforts is appreciated.BudokaiMR2 said:Seriously, don't buy the eddy content. It's just not worth it. Something so short should have been free. The map wasn't even that amazing. It was fun, but nothing worth 6 bucks or whatever it costs.
I also put it on top of the OP yesterday alreadyMcBradders said:OMG guys I am terrible

You are able to get Vyse and Aika (not spoiler-tagging those since it's not secret info and they talk about it in interviews) right off the bat, correct? Theoretically, when is the earliest time I could reload over and over to make sure I get them? Also, when is Edy first available, so I can use the same method to make sure I get her as well?

-Cutscenes need to be able to be paused! Someone interrupted me when I was watching it, and I had to play the scene over, or I just don't know how to pause them
-Most fun part for me so far is I can't tag so I'll put something you can't read Either that or enemies crossing in front of a sandbag that has three of my units behind it. They all opened fire on him, it was hilarious

It's good that you're thinking that way in Chapter 3 already, since it will be important to act in a deliberate fashion once all the rooftops are full of snipers.Volcynika said:-This is not a rushing game, no no. Trying to anticipate the enemy's movements and be ready for them is important. It's fun to just take a second and think about where they might go next, and be ready to handle it.
Durante said:I can't stress enough how much I love the small strategic touches in the game, like units recovering more ammo/hp in camps. The more I'm using it the more I also think that the whole "move units more than once if you like, but at reduced efficiency" system is a stroke of genius.
RpgN said:I agree. I also really like how they made the engineers helpful. You know how they heal your tank, ammo for all units, can travel long distance and disarm mines. On top of that they can attack when the time comes (not amazing, but considering all the other things they can do). They're a great package.
You guys tried to pair Jann with Largo? They're hilarious! I love Jann...

I'm not 100% sure but it from my experience it seems to be a once per chapter thing.Baha said:Does R&D only upgrade each chapter or can you unlock upgrades via level or getting higher ranks?

Later in the game higher ranks do earn you other rewards though.

I better not regret this, NEOGAF!
I think I heard some players of the Japanese version say that there is -- I have not yet finished the game.Baha said:Ok, one last thing, is there a new game+? It'd be nice if I could carry over my equipment & levels over.

Feel free to spoiler the answer for people who don't want to know, but I like to keep track on how much I have left on my games while playing them

I didn't sell "not at all". It sold 150k in total, which is, in fact, good for a new franchise SRPG on any platform, and especially so on PS3. Of course it deserves to do even better than that, but that is beside the point.Totobeni said:but can someone , anyone please tell me why this didn't sell in japan at all ? was it the World War thing , the European characters ( same as Folklore ) , or Japanese do only need emo kids with 70 feet long swords and magics and other crap to buy RPGs ?
DoctorWho said:I'm not regretting it so far. I've given into GAF HYPE one too many times but this seems like the real thing. I'm not into strategy games, or even SRPGs, but this game has won me over. The combat system is deep, without being too complex. It's a very approachable game and the story is actually pretty good so far.
I love to read about the genre-defying appeal of VCTotobeni said:playing this the last 6 hours , first SRPG ever i actually like and know how to play it , I hate J-RPG , SRPG and WRPG too but I am in freaking love with this game , it's just so awesome
