Normally in a thread like this, it would be moving at a breakneck speed once a game is released since people will be talking about events and problem missions.

I think it is quite indicative of how the game will sell (like shit) since this thread seems to buckle all NeoGAF official thread trends. This should be at 2,000 posts by now if all the previous posters played the game and wants to talk about how good it is.

We are not getting VC2.

Take a deep breath I suspect a lot of people are in the same position as I am with all the big releases lately. Many of those who bought the game may currently be caught up with something else (Fable II, Mirror's Edge, Dead Space, LBP, Gears2, R2 etc. etc. etc.) I think when all is said and done (word of mouth should give the game a decent if not overly large tail sales-wise) Sega will be pleased with the game's reception.

I don't have faith in the gaming community, time and time again they fall prey to million dollar marketing budgets and ignore high quality games that fall by the wayside.

I am only in Chapter 8 and there is already so much to talk about, but no one wants to talk. So there is no need for me to have a conversation. Hell, this thread is an aberration because it does the opposite of what official threads do, it should have far more discussion than before the game was released.

Forgive me if I am being negative, but this thread and the Amazon deal does not inspire any form of sales hope. If the game really did sell well, then people should be talking about it because of all the good stuff about the game.

You should take it easy though most people want to finish the game first before starting a discussion. I mean it's better to talk about something when you've got the full picture of it also sometimes as Ryu Hazuki said in Shenmue 2 "No news are good news". Just enjoy the game for now.

Yep, I don't like to ask for strategy advices when playing SRPGs, especially since the ranking requirement is so crispy clear in this game rather than bunch of determinations like other ones. I just have to focus on one thing and one thing only.

I guess I will inject some hope in my post.

Remember that the gamestop that screwed me over had 4 Valkyria preorders? When I went there to pick up my game (after re-preordering it from that horrible store) and I saw that they had 10 copies lining up there.

Apparently people kept calling about it asking for copies before the game was out, but it was too late for preorders. They made some last minute orders to satisfy demand.

So if there is some hope, in my portion of sunny Southern California, there are 14 happy Valkyria owners.

My excuse is that I spent 2 hours reading the glossary and profiles so I can know the history and cosmology of the Valkyria universe along with the cast of characters that are in my team.

I lost an engineer permanently (Karl? Kael? something like that) when the enemy ace came out the back door and shot him in the face but then ended up rushing two assault troopers to take the flag on the 6th turn.

Game continues to be engaging, beautiful and fun. I'd be talking more about it if I wasnt so busy playing it!

I've been grinding a lot. My squad is up to level 8/9. Skirmishes, while long, are pretty good for trying out new strategies. I guess that's why I beat mission 7 on my 2nd try. Oh and sometimes I have to go do other things so I guess maybe an hr of that is the game just idling.

I'm at chapter 11 and I've played about 11 hours so far... and I have cleared all available skirmish battles and so on.

You must either be a very obsessive player or just really suck.

edit: Oh, leaving the game idling could of course be the reason as well.

I think you steal them from enemies. Like, you know how the enemies' bodies are still on the ground for 1 turn when you kill them? I think if you go up to them, you sometimes get a weapon. I have like 4-5 enemy weapons (but they seem kinda sucky? No range. More powerful though.)

I didn't even know you could do that!

The important point is that only enemy aces (named enemies) drop weapons.

I too leave the game idling. Chp10, 28hrs. Beat that.

As for the weapons, as well as the enemy weapons you pick up (which are limited in number), after you get far enough, the upgrading trees of each weapon split, so you get three different types of each weapon (these, like the regular weapons are unlimited in number). Generally they divide down into power, accuracy and special effects (attacking an enemy will inflict them with that weapons effect).

I glanced by EBgames for fun. Huge lineup. I butt in and quickly ask. They don't even know what I'm talking about. It's not even on the shelves or in any display.

I think it's a combination of that plus leveling up characters when they get new potentials. It only seems to affect recruits you use so it's a nice incentive to go back and use other people to fill out their personnel file. Oh and for those amazed at my play time, like I said earlier I grind a lot. I have a habit of over leveling my characters so that I have an easier time beating missions. Undodgeable shot & sniper/lancer/tank killer ftw.

2nd paragraph is unlocked when you obtain their final PERSONAL potential, which you get from defeating enemies, occupying enemy bases, rescuing teammates, etc.

But I think officers (Welkin, Alicia, Sophie, etc) don't get their final potential unless you finish their specific Report battles.

Not sure about 3rd paragraph though, according to the walkthrough, it'll be unlocked in new game+ for those characters which you've unlocked their final personal potential.

Yeah, the demo made it kinda dodgy, but it's pretty damn good in the full version. Still tho, as an anime fan, the Japanese VA is godly IMO.


Having a lot of fun with the game, I played the Japanese version a little bit previously, but this is the first time I'll be playing it full on.

Pretty much. If you ever find yourself needing some, you can always do the skirmiish battles (I have yet to need to go there, even though I've gotten a couple of D's on missions >.> )

I'm liking this game even more than I thought I would. I just love how structured it is in some situations (how cool is it how they have it laid out so you can view any previous episode or battle?) but then in the battles it's sorta like you do it however you want. I'm on Chapter 3 and loving it so far.

Near the beginning of chapter 2 and really digging the game so far. I am disappointed that I haven't seen much advertisement for the game when its this promising this early.

The local Fry's I went to (where I picked up Gears and Resistance) was sold out of the game, though I don't know how many they had to begin with. As noted by someone else, Best Buy had none of the shelves, and not even a placard to show for it. I had to ask an associate, who got some from storage. C'mon people! At least put the game out there so it has a fighting chance!
