VGLeaks: First look as Durango XDK (always connected, kinect required, must install)

What would happen on this forum if MS did both?

Could be crazy but I have the feeling that it would be the same. Since Sony never outpower or better OS than xbox.

I'm more really curious what if MS did not both. I think I would be okay since it is all about the games. My local mate might not able to cope lol.

I have a ton of blurays/dvds I haven't seen yet, but 90% of the time I watch something on netflix because its right there, with a couple of clicks its playing. ( I HATE how long the netflix or any app on the 360 takes to load up. Hate.) I hope the 720 has these already in memory.

it's even possible you could play a durango game... while watching netflix!

*mind bend*

So I am lttp here. From what I understand, installing a part of the game will become the norm next gen for both consoles. Unlike entire game install on 360, it should work the same way as it does on PC and PS3, i.e. partial installation of data based on priority of repetition of access.

I thought people understood that the days of putting the disc in the tray and simply playing are pretty much over if they want to enjoy higher fidelity with mitigated pop ins and shorter loading times (if not completely seamless).

Any way, anything else going on here (as aforementioned, I am LTTP)?

So I take it that 1.2TF GPU, 8GB DDr3 and 8 core Jaguar CPU have all been revised and updated. Otherwise a ban should be mandated.

It's Proelite, one of the biggest "secret sauce" proponents and someone who has spread misinformation on purpose before. He's probably just referring to games looking better than people will expect from the specs or having some games to show that people are going to really want.

Of course! Don't you understand, before I put the blame on Sony for something I don't like, I choose another company because that's way easier.

edit: sorry I am snarky today but some posts are really weird today to me personally, honestly.

Your face is a postage stamp.

:)

Sorry if this has been brought up already.

But would the reason to install the disc to run off the hard drive be to avoid any blu ray patents/license fees?

So instead of using any blu ray tech to stream/decode it would be done from the hard drive/console?

How exactly would that avoid BR patent fees when you're still using a BR disc and drive to initially deliver the content? ;)

Much like the CD and DVD patent fee, the BR patent fee is for the disc and the drive themselves. There is a separate fee for movie playback but if you join the association you can pay that yearly.

So it has nothing to do with rumoured "on paper" specs being updated in any way.

-Thanks.

Kinect with every system smh. And I obviously have them to thank for the EyeToy polluting every system too with PS4. Good job on shitting up the industry just that much more, Microsoft.

My worst fear is if both platform holders force their camera on end users. I only have so much room and having to switch cameras out just to play a game is such a hassle.

Did I make a ban bet that the specs have changed? Or insinuate that I have insider knowledge about a spec change?

All I said is that crow will be ate, which is like saying the sky will be blue that day.

Heck, I might be among the ones eating crow that day.

Yes thats exactly what I meant when I said suddenly. Of COURSE.

I think 25GB will be the norm a year from now. The constraints of this gen will be gone and no longer will devs cater to the lowest common denominator. High res art, uncompressed audio, low compression video, etc.

Always online is good, in they it provides functionality. Mandatory installs is also good, in that I don't see the hardware making sense without it. Blu ray read speed would cripple the system. If Sony does not do both of these things then they are very foolish.

Can't play games straight from the disc? That tells me that there will be an installation limit...

After the limit is reached, you will probably have to buy more installations...

3 installations for 3600 MS Point...this is our future!

Feels bad man...

Lol it's MS's fault now for what Sony does on their system?

Don't forget Nintendo though. If they never released the terror that was the Wiimote, Sony would not have had to counter with the retarded lollipop puppet show!
Damn you Iwata! Damn you to hell! ;P

I'd love to see a better controller than the 360's. This always on, always connected part has me worried. Especially with the damn kinetic required to be connected.

It may shock you people, but some people you would not expect to have information indeed have some information, and some you think have information are completely wrong about facts they state.

fee for hardware is what? $7? for the player itself it's an extra $2.

I see it coming down to 4 outcomes:

1) There is no Blu-Ray player (highly unlikely)
2) There is a blu-ray player but they try to worm the royalty fee to $1.25 as a "PC" (highly unlikely)
3) There is a blu-ray player and they charge you a nominal fee for it (likely)
4) There is a blu-ray player but you need to download it, allowing microsoft to offer it for free, but only to the people who actually will use it. (somewhat likely)

It have to be. Not like MS if they doing this stay route.

I think they'll have upclocked the CPU and GPU compared to the leaks. It probably won't make a huge difference but it'll help close the gap and is a relatively easy change that won't have too big of an impact on TDP. Heat is the only issue but they can probably compensate for that without much difficulty.

Are you seriously telling me you're going to buy a PS4 and not leave it connected to the internet? All is fake outrage is so obvious. PS4 has the same always on/always connected capabilities.....but you're not going to use it. Sure.

I bet half of these people will have their PS4 always connected and not even realize it, but it's fun to hate xbox on neogaf, join in.

The constraints of this gen will be gone and no longer will devs cater to the lowest common denominator.

Valid point. Yet devs who don't program for consoles but make PC games aren't close to this as an average.

IF they jump to solid 100% 4096k resolutions, and all the other bits that ALSO make sense in next gen consoles with these levels of power I will be very interested in seeing how that works and what the excuse is that many aren't doing that already with PC being their major plateform.

The console blame game is VERY valid in many circumstances but not all.

Who knows. We will see. I would love some high def shit. As long as they systems can play it at solid FPS and Res.

There are lot of XO (user experience and measureable outcomes) that MS, Sony and Nintendo looks at that Gaf don't even think about.

I bet MS and Sony managers have meltdowns over XOs that the other platform provides.

If the OS for a console takes 3 seconds to switch to versus 1 for the other, that's huge win for the faster console.
If downloading a demo takes twice as long on one console than the other, that's huge for the faster console.

If one console eliminates game disc switching, that's really really huge win in terms of XO.

Look, I don't disagree with better user experiences or Gaf opinions being representative of the whole industry.

I just find it ironic that a consoles that has a history of disc switching this generation ( eg. Dead Space 3 has 2 disc on 360 ) has some user now pumping its fist on this merits on Durango. This is akin to a portion of Sony fans cheering and embracing EyeToy for being much better Kinect if it turns out to be so when they have been shitting Kinect all over.

All I said is that crow will be ate, which is like saying the sky will be blue that day.

Crows were eaten the day PS4 was revealed and that had less to do with games and more to do with RAM. Without providing context you are leading people to draw their own conclusions. For example, I thought you were speaking of the specs being updated which given what was shown of PS4 would indeed lead a lot of people eat crows.

In terms of results, given what was shown for PS4, I do not think people are under the illusion that XB3 will be some sort of XB360 x 1.5. Thus, I fail to see why crows will be eaten.

I just hate it when people who seemingly either have or pretend to have insider information like to leak info or drop an ostensible hyperbole without specificity to toy with people.

It's bigger imo. Imagine if EVERY game on 360 came on two discs.

I doubt the console would have been as successful.

It's as big as a deal for Durango as the fast installs for patches on the 360 were. However, I agree it won't be mentioned at all on Gaf.

Then the NPD comes out and people wonders why is a certain system getting beat when it has this exclusive, this much more ram, blah blah.

My worst fear is if both platform holders force their camera on end users. I only have so much room and having to switch cameras out just to play a game is such a hassle.

Well, we know the EyeToy is going to be used to do a lot of the same things Kinect is doing re: THE OS, so it seems pretty essential in a lot of ways. But Sony seems to be taking the "oh you can do this too, but you don't have to" approach to designing their system, where Microsoft so far seems to be designing things with the "fuck you, you're going to do it and like it" approach, so I'm crossing my fingers I can toss EyeToy in the garbage the second I get my Ps4.

I don't find the continued ruination of the industry too amusing, Router. :(

The only solace I take is that the Kinect fad has already come and gone, its horrific library speaks for itself, and like Wii U there's no new factor and it won't sell systems. So I hope, if Microsoft goes this route, they flop as hard as Wii U.

That said, they'll probably try to buy their way to victory with another $500 million dollar marketing campaign and send their army of mindless low standard know nothings to defend their shitty tech on forums and on game journalist websites and we'll be stuck with another gen of developers shoehorning their unrefined gimmicks into every bulletpointed, focus and boardroom tested, MODERN AAA disaster game that exists.

No online validation of your install means you can buy a copy of the game and all your friends now have it on their HDD to play with.

I believe PC games used to be like that originally.

Or it could be just like the 360 where you install the game to the HD but still need the disc in the drive in order to play the game.

They could announce Xbox will eat your children and there would be people on here talking about the importance of population control. Amazing.

i actually have had a hunch throughout that the durango games shown april 26 will look better than what was shown on ps4 (well, kz4 was the only real confirmed ps4 gameplay i think)

that doesnt mean it's more powerful, but i expect durango software to be in a state of higher polish.

superdae said something like the durango games he's played are smoother than ps4 ones. i suspect thats why.

and for all consoles...

anyways i fail to see anything unexpected or bad here. sort of just the logical continuation of the way things for all the industry are trending.

always on always connected also does NOT specifically equal always on drm, they are seperate issues. i'm sure many have already jumped to negative conclusions on that, as always.

Weirdly enough, this is one of those miraculously rare occasions where I have the same hunch. Unlike PS4 which has gone through several revisions, not the least of which has been the huge RAM upgrade, MS knew for a much longer time about what they wanted (in conjunction with their partner like Epic and Crytek) in terms of performance base.

Also Superdae is full of shit.

I have the same hunch, even without changes in development kits the simple fact that Sony has shown its hand already means that Microsoft must have something better to show. Not really a reason to eat crow though, the post clearly implies something about hardware that we aren't aware of IMO.
