Vita "hacked," (PSP) homebrew on the way (not piracy)

Past exploits working is good, don't have to buy a new game for it. Though Uno kind of sucks because it takes so long to load.

This is not a good thing at all. Development won't pick up with "homebrew" rampant.

EDIT - Apparently it's bannable to equate homebrew to piracy. I have edited that out, it's just my opinion and what I think caused the fall of the PSP when it started to finally get some good game development after the first couple of years (essentially when PSP Slim / Crisis Core came out)

It is PSP emulator stuff, native vita hasn't been touched.

Hahahaha

What to do? Tag quote? Bish gif? Just simply mock you? My life is too hard sometimes :'(

in case you are simply unaware, the bolded is bannable. Homebrew should not be equated to piracy.

This won't allow Vita piracy.

I can't check the links right now but wasn't Vita already exposed and open via Motorstorm for PSP an the Mad Blocker mini early last year? There was vids up of people running Doom and other stuff. This is just another step in the same direction?

Yes, same thing. People keep finding new PSP and Minis games to exploit.

Has this actually progressed much? So let me get this straight, you can play PSP and PS1 games on Vita if it becomes available right?

Until a name firmware or game comes out and you upgrade to play them. If you have a second Vita that you just want to use as a portable ps1/psp then I suppose you keep keep the exploit indefinitely. But yes, if you get the game before its pulled from the store then you can play psp and ps1 games on your vita.

I got so many PSP games I just can't carry around with me and I thought this would be a good alternative. I already have some PS1 games so I don't want to pay for them again.
It's really frustrating how Sony keeps asking us to buy the game again when I already have them. I guess this is not gonna help me much.

If you don't have a PSP Go maybe that would work better for you. I've got one with 32GB that holds a good portion of my PSP games. I had one of the first Vita exploits, but honestly, it's not worth giving up all the perks just to play games I can play 100x easier on my Go.

I don't have a Go but it looks uncomfortable to play on. It looks easy to carry around on the hand. What are your impressions of the Go?

lol, seems like the most inopportune time. We know the vita is about to get hit over the head with some serious updates soon.

I like it a lot. I've got fairly large hands, and its actually more comfortable than the Vita to me. That may be because I prop the system up with my pinkie, and it starts to hurt after long play sessions. I picked up my Go for less than $20 at a pawn shop and the 16GB card for about $10 on Amazon. You can find them extremely cheap if you look around, and they're well worth it.

$20? That's like a meal and extra burger in Australia. Doubt I could find any in here, I mean I don't even remember if I saw any in stores :|
I have a fairly small hands and Vita can be a bit annoying especially playing fast paced games like Ninja Gaiden.
I wonder if Amazon US sells any for cheap. I assume Go is region free correct?

What does this even mean?

Probably means as a way to stop hackers. Honestly CEF is a good thing even for Sony since it's keeping people from hacking the actual Vita.

The CPU is already opened up for speeds higher than the PSP allowed, and if TN-V4 opens up the memory there isn't even any reason for a native Vita hack aside from piracy. Sounds like a pretty ideal situation to me.

Right now it won't, but that's the path it's going down.
It absolutely, positively won't. As has been said, it's only the PSP environment that's been hacked and from what I can tell, absolutely no progress at all has been made on the Vita hacking front in the entire time it's been out.

If there's an exploit or hack, it'll be completely different in operation to how this one works.

As it is, I'll just be glad (again) to have a single handheld that can play all my existing (*legally ripped*) PSP games as well as my Vita games.

so would this allow me to play any ps1 game i wanted on the vita, regardless of if its on PSN

because i thought that the PS1 emulater was just inside the PSP one

Not yet. The PS1 emulator works but has no sound. The guy who was working on it got pissed off and left the homebrew community last year but recently came back so it should be finished eventually. May or may not be part of TN-v4.

Hopefully it's only $5 like Uno was. I've enjoyed using the UNO exploit since January, hope that this comes to fruition. Would be nice to synch the trophies I've accumulated this year without having to give up my ability to play my PSP collection. My PSP broke around the time that I got a Vita, so I really like having the Vita to use as a better PSP.

The post said it should work on previously released exploits so as long as you haven't updated the system/Uno you shouldn't need a new game.

I'm in the same situation though. I got my PSP used and it was already in worse condition than I expected. Then it fell off a shelf and now the O button and right shoulder button work very inconsistently. So this exploit is basically saving me from buying another PSP.

Hopefully no firmware updates come out between the time the exploit releases and Ys comes out. That would nicely solve my current dilemma.

With this exploit is it possible to play patched versions of games? I'm thinking specifically of fft.

It should be, but some people have had trouble with it.

Yes, I have the slowdown fixed version of Final Fantasy Tactics: The War of the Lions on my Vita with the Uno exploit. Monster Hunter Portable 3rd, Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep Final Mix translation, and Dissidia 012 patches all work wonderfully.

There are literally no instructions to get them to work at all though. Someone said you have to put a GAME.TXT file (ala PSP) into the root, but I could not get any plugins to work or react at all in this way. I had to find an application off of wololo that worked as a PSP homebrew and made plugins very easy to install.

Yeah, I see, but there are a few titles that I would love to be able to play that require firmware above 2.02. I'd like to update to the latest one to give myself some more games to own. I feel your pain with my PSP. My analogue started behaving poorly a few years ago (I have an original phat model, and I think this is common). But around December the R button came off too, which is not good at all.

Excited to be able to home brew my vita. The potential for PS2 emulation is there I think, but personally the first thing I will do is get BOF III on my vita.

I don't have a Go but it looks uncomfortable to play on.

It looks that way but it's actually super-awesome. I have giant beefy manhands and I usually hate holding tiny systems (I stuck it out on the DS Phat and let my wife take the Lite just because it was actually more comfortable for me) but the Go is very comfy for me, at least in the snap case, much moreso than my 2000.

That's what I meant. The exploit in the emulator and the game used to do it aren't tied together. Sony has to patch both the game (to prevent it from allowing exploits in the future) and the firmware (to fix the exploit in question). So if you're using Uno now you'll be able to use the new exploit with it on the new firmware.
