Agree wholeheartedly with this. I did this same thing, and it's one of the best decisions I've ever made in my life.
Often, even B-tier movies from those days (especially 30s/40s/50s) are leagues ahead of the "A-tier" modern blockbusters.
All except for one of my favorite Top 20 movies was made before 1975. The only one made after that was Pulp Fiction.

Likewise. I'm not a Tarantino fan and have had plenty of opportunities to see this movie at any given cadence; just wouldn't.
Others that are very popular that I've never seen and may or may not want to:
- Fight Club
- One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest (never been a Kubrick fan and have only watched/liked Kubrick's version of 'the Shining')
- Citizen Kane
- The Hobbit live-action trilogy (I owned the animated version, though)
- The Godfather (the first one...I watched part 2 first and then decided at that time I wasn't going to go back to watch the first)
- Apocalypse Now (mildly interested in seeing this sometime)
- Fargo
- The Matrix (I've seen clips of it and a music video years ago)

There are very few major ones I have never seen. But they are all old horror movies like Silence of the Lambs, The Omen, Hellraiser etc.
I'm sure I could handle them now. And probably would even enjoy them. But when I was a kid I was too scared to watch them. And even now am hesitant to watch them.
I did finally watch the Shining relatively recently. And it was fantastic.

All of those movies except The Hobbit (of course) are absolute classics. "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest" was directed by Milos Forman, not Kubrick. Should really rewatch that movie, it's been years since I last seen it.
You should watch at least Fight Club, One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest, THe Matrix, The Godfather and Fargo. Those are easy recommendations for modern audiences. Citizen Kane is less popular these days, so wait with that one.

Just got the Amazon free trial for probably the 3rd time this year (lol), and Fight Club is currently on Prime Video. Recommend watching it if you have Prime as there's no extra cost.
There's a few other good movies on there as well, like Alien, Taken, AVP, Traffic. And it looks the other channels are $1 for 2 months / ea. Just be sure to cancel before the period expires, or it's $12 per month after that.
*Speaking of which: Godfather I and II are on Showtime.

The Maltese Falcon was my last classic "must see" movie. I finally got around to watching it a little over a year ago.
I'm not young. I'm middle Gen X. I have a great fondness for all films from the dawn of cinema up through the modern era. Old movie-making styles, writing, and performances are no deterrent to my enjoyment at all.
But I thought that film was complete crap.

If I were to choose from those that I've not seen on the list to watch with some curiosity -- I'd be leaning toward: Fargo, Citizen Kane, and One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest. I'm an older film fan and tend not to go too far into 90's movies. There are many well-known 2000's movies too that I've never seen. I physically removed myself from theaters after the year 1998 and was only back in theaters when a "friend" would drag me in. I feel there's such an abundance of great movies that I haven't seen that span from the 1940's - 1980's that I would never have the need to get into beyond the 80's.

Name a film widely considered to be a classic from prior to 2000 and there's a very good chance I have yet to see it. For most of my life I couldn't get into movies I considered older. I've been catching up over the past two or three years though. The Criterion Collection has gone a long way towards filling those gaps.
Casablanca, Citizen Kane, The Godfather II, Schindler's List, Life is Beautiful - the list goes on and on. But I'm working on it. I started with the 90's, still focusing on that decade, but have also been adding in films from the 70's and 80's here and there.

During the "pandemic" I started plowing through movies on this list, I covered a few dozen of them. Some of them I loved, some I hated. You never know. Worst case scenario you're out a couple hours. Best case you just found a great new movie.

Never saw Blair Witch and I lived through all the hype. I refuse to ever see it. I have seen clips and I can live happy never having seen it.
Never saw the Godfather movies, I would like to, but I just have a limited bandwidth for gangster shit nowadays. I've seen all the other good ones.
Taxi Driver, it's on prime right now, so it's in my list.
Requiem for a Dream. I recently heard Jennifer Connolly is in it and pretty damn hot, so I'll go diddle myself to that probably. Also on prime.
I have been going through some of the well known westerns of the past, still several to get through.
How about a thread about the movies you don't like that other people love, and you have still seen them multiple times, and it never redeems itself. My example is Con Air. I have probably seen it 5 or 6 times and I have never liked it. I won't say I hate it, but it's not good. People love that turd too.
