Well known movies you havent seen

A lot of people won't have seen films still considered classic because they came out years before they were even born, rarely surprising.

The Pianist is a big one for me, rarely a night where I fancy feeling miserable for 2.5 hours. Cars, The Da Vinci Code, King Kong, Troy. I haven't seen the last 6 DC comic book movies. Any Transformers beyond 3.
Dude the Pianist is simply Fantastic.

Some longer classic older movies I just never seem to be able to get settled for like Gone with the Wind and Ben Hur. Also Andrei Rublev, the only Tarkovski I haven't seen. Then there's the two most recent ones from Scorcese, The Irishman and Killers of the Flower Moon.

So yeah mainly 200 minutes+ stuff.

Most big movies/franchises the last 10-15 years.

- Harry Potter (though these were a bit earlier)
- Star Wars (i only ever saw the first one really)
- Pirates of the Caribbean
- Jurassic Park/World (i only ever watched the original and first sequel)
- Mission Impossible (only watched the first)
- The Fast and Furious trash
- All Disney live remakes
- John Wick (only watched the first movie)
- Video Game adaptions
- The last few Terminator movies
- The last few Alien movies
- The last few Predator movies
- The last Indiana Jones movie
- Marvel/DC movies (after the Nolan stuff i only saw The Joker and one of the Deadpool movies)
- Pixar/Dreamworks stuff (last ones were The Incredibles 2 and Toy Story 4, which i completely forgot)
- Modern horror stuff (unwatchable trash)
- Anything made by James Cameron after the first Avatar
- Anything made by Michael Bay after the first Transformers
- Movies starring The Rock
- Movies starring Jack Black
- Movies starring Nicolas Cage

What else there is? I don't remember. I haven't watched any of that. I basically quit Hollywood movies altogether and only watching the odd lower budget movie every other month.

Nothing immediately obvious springs to mind, just stuff clearly not designed for me like The Hunger Games. I used to catch the big films around Christmas but now things like Marvel are on Disney+ I miss out.

I'm asian so a lots of western movies i haven't watch.
Godfather 1,2,3
All James Bond movies
All Indiana Jones movies
80% of super heroes movies
Fast n furious, only watched the first one. Not a car guy.
Every horror movies. I'm a pussy so no,fuck those shits. Only watched the new Alien because my wife forced me to come with her. Never again!

Just watch:
- Godfather I and II - Peak Marlon Brando and Al Pacino plus Nino Rota soundtrack. It's a slow burn but pays off beautifully.
- Casino Royale (2006) - Arguably the best bond movie ever, peak Eva Green and Mads Mikkelsen.
- Raiders of Lost Ark - The opening alone is as iconic as it gets. Spielberg movies have a "happy ending" feeling that i don't like but Indy's first movie is great.
Done.

I didn't watch 99% of the recent movies. It has to be really worth my time, like recently Furiosa or Dune.
They ruined many franchises like Star Wars or Predator with absolute trash new movies.
I don't care about superheroes too. Only maybe The Dark Knight is worth in my book.

Same here. I've always viewed Harry Potter as too corny and never took it seriously. Maybe that's unfounded and they're decent movies, who knows.
My daughter is not a big reader. She is burning through the Potter books. I haven't read the books but I watched all the movies and I find them entertaining. I can see why there is a draw with kids.
The kids work together as friends to over come a coming evil. The kids are usually smarter than the adults. I won't lie, as much as I like the movies, there are times when I wonder, why don't the teachers just do X. And the headmaster always seems to know what's going on but lets Potter and company figure it out for themselves. But I am not the target audience and it is a great series for movie night. I also told my daughter we don't watch a movie until she finishes the corresponding book.

ShirAhava

Plays with kids toys, in the adult gaming world
Any movie with Will Ferrell in it that isn't Austin Powers

I noticed him in a few bit parts in the 90s and thought he completely sucked/was unfunny before I even knew
who he was .....he was so bad he stood out to me

How he became so big I'll never understand

And basically any major film made after 2007 that isn't superhero related

I’ve never seen any of the Back to the Future movies. Pretty sure I would enjoy them, but don’t care enough to seek them out. Someday.

Avatar 1 or 2. Couldn't care less about them.
Same, also the blue aliens are the fugliest thing ever made.

My list is probably longer than all the gaffers combined, i really fell off watching movies in the past 10 years, strange because i was the opposite when i was younger.

oh this is a good topic. There are a bunch of well known classics that I've never seen.

The Shining
The Godfather part 2 (not a fan of Gangster movies and the 1st didn't really for anything for me)
Casablanca
Gone With the Wind
Taxi Driver
Raging Bull
The Good the Bad and the Ugly
Schindler's List
Lawrence of Arabia
All the Miyazaki movies
Apocalypse Now
2001: A space Odyssey

There's definitely more, but that's all I could think of at the moment.

I think I'm pretty good when it comes to not missing major movies. Harry Potter series was probably the "biggest" one that I didn't fully watch. I've seen a few of them and some of the others just bits and pieces, but not really the whole series. Donnie Darko is another one but I'm not sure if that's THAT much of a well known movie.

Mr Reasonable

Completely Unreasonable
Have seen Lotr - first two films
Harry Potter - first film
First Avengers film

Have not seen Lotr - 3rd film.
Any Harry Potter film but the first one.
No other Avengers films, or indeed most Marvel films that followed The Avengers.

Haven't seen:

Any Godfather movies bar the beginning of one being shown on TV.
Scarface
Taxi Driver
Avatar
Braveheart
Citizen Kane
Gone with the Wind
It's a wonderful life
The sound of Music
North By Northwest and most other Hitchcock films.

Edit: also The Shining, which I do keep on thinking of watching.

Considering how much I like the man in my avatar, The Princess Bride is probably the biggest one for me. Then again I've probably absorbed the entire movie through osmosis with how much it's been referenced over the years.

Wow. That's quite a list.

You should watch them sequentially and make a thread posting how much you enjoyed each one. I always think that some films are so of their time they can't be enjoyed in the same way later on - I can't imagine The Matrix is all that nowadays, but I wonder if Memento has aged well. Either way, I think Shawshank must be worth a watch.

I'd love to go through them but I don't really want to spend money on them lol. I'll see if any are on netflix/prime.
Having seen all your list. I'd skip most of it lol. Shawshank, Gladiator and the first 2 terminators are about it. But I don't know your tastes. A few others are okay if there's nothing else on.

You should really watch Shawshank Redemption, Matrix 1, Terminator 1, Gladiator, Indy 1, Reservoir Dogs, Scarface, Goodfellas and The Great Escape. Those movies didn't become classic for no good reason, they're all top-notch.

According to Justwatch.com Scarface, Reservoir Dogs and Gladiator are on Amazon Prime US BTW

The Godfather movies - I watched Scarface, Goodfellas, Casino, Once Upon a Time in America and a few other similar movies but never the Godfather series.

Star Wars Episode 7 and above

Lord of the Rings series - I absolutely love fantasy movies, the sword and sorcery type seen so many from the sword and the sorcerer to Krull to He-Man to Conan to Red Sonja to Heart and Armour to Sorceress to Deathstalkers to Barbarian Queen and a whole bunch of these types from the 80s. So it's strange why I haven't felt motivated to see Lord of the Rings all these years.

I would add that Terminator 2 is one of the greatest sequels ever made, so you can't really avoid that. I think it also adds a lot of entertainment to the terminator world, if you really have no idea about any of it. The special fx aren't as mind blowing as when it was new, but you can't avoid those things when you watch older movies. Robert Patrick is amazing with his no-blinking running.

I have seen Reservoir Dogs several times and I don't find it as enthralling as other people do. To me it's just ok. There are better Tarantino films. Scarface is another that I don't find as captivating as all the bros. It's a gangster movie, meh. Say hello to MY little friend.

I finally finished watching the big leboski after about 25 years. It just ends.... I mean I like it and understand the cult appeal but people lost their shit over this movie.

LotR is the best one of them all - it does everything right. Watch the extended versions if you can.

I still can't find my shit.

I love the movie. It's infinitely quotable. It's probably has a bigger affect on you when it's seen in it's era. There are a lot of old movies that get ruined by other newer media, because they have paid homage, or just stolen a thing. When you finally get to seeing the originator, the effect has been ruined. I probably didn't lose my shit, but I did quote the hell out of that movie. I can't remember most of them now. One scene that still makes me chuckle is the notepad. He tries to see his secret message by scraping the pencil on the page underneath. It turns out he drew a man with a big dick, no message. The way he is scraping, and slowly realizes there's no message. I don't know how pencil scraping is funny, but it makes me laugh, when he does it.

I'm a big Cohen brothers fan. It's mainly the dialog. I don't know if I can narrow down my all time favorite movie, but it might be O Brother Where Art Thou? It's because I love the old timey dialog, and the humor. I know most people won't consider it a top movie, but it's mine.
