Who's cancelling their 3DS preorder and joining the winning team?

This isn't a Jungle thread?

When was the last time a Nintendo handheld failed?
Depends on whether or not you consider the Virtual Boy a handheld.

Seems PSP2 is the real deal.

Praise to Sony, now we are truly leaving the handheld gaming ghetto

Dont have $500 to spend on the PSP2 :p

besides, buy the 3DS and if the market calls for it, sell for a huge profit and buy both :p

DS had a 4 month lead on PSP last time around in the US in terms of launch, just a week lead in Japan. Going to be a much bigger gap this time around.

From what I've seen of the PSP2, I think I'm still sticking with the 3DS. In many ways, both companies have followed the same strategy they did last time, but each one took a bit from the other. 3DS picked up some slack in the graphics and multimedia department and PSP2 has adopted touchscreens and motion sensors. Nintendo has still gone with an unproven medium of gameplay (3D this time, as opposed to touchscreens last gen) and sony has still gone with high resolution and powerful processors. It's interesting when companies follow a pattern long enough that you can almost imagine their board meetings.

TL;DR - Nintendo has the more impressive handheld based on the info we've gotten from both so far.

edit- I was beaten to all the witty retorts, so I apologize for my inferior semi-serious post.

I can't play Ocarina of Time 3D on NGP, so no. However, I shall get both.

You can re-make Ocarina of Time on this portable. Comes with its own Nintendo 64 development kit.

I just find it surprising that so many people here are once again blinded by beefed specs and polygon counts, when that has proven time and again that's not what the general public cares about for a portable gaming unit. The 3G, move to flash cartridge, and track pad are the only truly interesting things of the device.

Also their software strategy is once again fucked. Killzone, Uncharted, LittleBigPlantet... so we're getting key PS3 software but now in portable form? Gee, I could have sworn PSP did that with key PS2 software as well.

Hey, what's the difference between PSP2 and 3DS? Yeah that's right.. a 3D screen for 3DS, and two analog sticks, next-gen infrastructure and graphics for PSP2.

Which one of these sounds like the better deal for games?

I'm glad I now have a decent-paying job to finance my expensive love for gaming.

The trade off is I no longer have time to play games because of my job. But I will still buy both, because I can.

Hey, just for fun - if its under 300$ (and you can quote this post under threat of ban) - I will buy an extra and run a contest on GAF to give it away for free.

Because I love u GAF <3

Or just play a console? LOL

With all the tech in the PSP2 id expect the battery to last 3 hrs.

Sony's track record with portables isn't great. Of course, Sony's record of portables is, like, one.

I guess my previous statement was meaningless.

Still don't like Sony though.

This thread really is a timewarp.

Wario is a genius.

If Sony doesn't meet a good time frame to release this after the 3DS, couldn't the 3DS eventually cost $200 by the time this comes out?

Really, they learned nothing.

They're showing how you can essentially play ports of PS3 games on a handheld. Didn't people pretty clearly reject that concept? People want games designed from the ground up to be played on-the-go. I have a PS3 for playing PS3 games.

Pretty sure the PSP proved that PS3 games on-the-go is a niche market.

Well done Wario.

In the time since the original PSP/DS wars I've finished college, gotten a job, and increased my income enough that I can just buy both of these at launch.

It is time for a new generation of poor college kids to argue this out.

Don't forget we have a third party this time around, at least if you listen to the Apple diehards.

When he figures that out, he will truly have reached proper adulthood and have joined the rest of us in enlightenment.

I am sticking with a DS Lite until either of these things are 150 bucks or less. I do not travel much or take public transportation so my handheld gaming needs are few and far between. No way am I shelling out 200 bucks for a gadget when that would buy me a CPU upgrade for my PC.
