Who's cancelling their 3DS preorder and joining the winning team?

Update this with NGP and 3DS. :lol

3DS is making me a little nervous with its launch line-up and weak performance when 3D is switched on, but no matter what, I'm setting aside $1000 for both of these systems in 2011.

I've been a way-enthusiastic handheld gaming fan since Lynx and between 3DS, NGP, and whatever Android and iOS come up with next, I may never stop mind-coming over how hot portable game machines have become in my lifetime!

Who dares wins?
The 3DS is going to be unbeatable, especially for mobile 3D manufacturers as they won't have the content or expertise to make it work, at least for the next 5 years. Plus once people start sharing their 3D photos on facebook, everyone would want one!

Gotta post here before the (inevitable? possible?) thread lock.

Either one of them is too expensive for me ;_; Gotta hold back for now and just watch from the sidelines ;_;

Guy's it obvious these two will have absolutely no effect on the Dreamcast Portable.

It's thinking
thinking like a winner

Not gonna get a PSP2 over a 3DS. (please stop calling it NGP) But I am thrilled at its existence. Seriously, Nintendo gets complacent so easily. 3DS price being the biggest offender. Competition is good.

I don't think you'll be able to see 3D photos on your facebook account through a PC.
3D photos will stay just on 3DS for awhile i guess (which isn't necessary a bad thing!).

Well it will take a year to take this picture.
Also it won't feel the same with SF4 running instead of Pictochat.
And there's no way you will be able to render the 3D visuals properly.

Gonna get a iPhone this year, a 3DS next year (or maybe see if there's a revision in 2013), and a PSP2 when/if it gets an identity for itself and does stuff I don't already have covered with a PS3/Phone.

So I guess I'll have all my bases covered within the next four or so years... Then I can wait for some revisions/pricedrops on the new consoles!

Quoted for absolute truth.

I seriously doubt publishers will eagerly jump in to make games for the PSP2. Imagine how much they have to invest to make a game on that thing… they rather make it for the consoles instead.

This is especially true when the PSP name isn't so bright in the first place. If you are a publisher would you want to invest and make games for it? Even without considering the financial risk, there is nothing about it that makes them want to say "man I want to try making game for this platform".

yeah 3D camera is a big selling point for me. That's worth about $100 by itself.

There's significantly less financial risk if it's a PS3 port.

I have a feeling that when the price of this thing is announced I will have a better incentive to buy a 3ds.

Companies are greedier than ever :(

I hope they make it play ps3 games or give it a ridiculous price drop. I'm sure this thing will be expensive. ps3-tech? cm'on
£200 n i'll bite.

Then again we 'might' see a price drop on the 3ds sooner because of this. Now that would be awesome.

Competition is good, but pricing is key. That's what the PSP2 has to deliver on. It can't be too expensive, as that was a major issue the PSP had for a long while. I don't want to buy a $400 handheld device to play $50-$60 dollar games on it. I'd rather buy a console for that price.

Ridiculous. Utterly ridiculous.

I will be getting both. I will be skipping the next generation of home consoles. I have a PC, after all.

I'm getting both, because I'm not a poor person.

It could be $400 and still would take away some sales away from 3DS. As long as it makes Nintendo sweat, I'm happy.

Another question (and one that Sony fans can answer now that the PSP2 is finally unveiled) is how many of you guys plan on going portable only now.

Why would anyone do that?

I will, this was my point in another thread when I said iOS was not going to make 3DS and PSP2 irrelevant.

Mobility is going to make consoles irrelevant. Just as tablets will keep hurting desktop sales.

O HO ZIIIINNNGGG

No really, why would anyone on GAF do that? Skipping a console just seems like a dumb idea, unless you looooove sitting around port begging. Eventually there will be something you REALLY want to play, and you won't get to.

Boy, that would be a horrible thing to experience.

Correct, but isn't this one of the main reasons why the PSP got trounced by the DS? Slightly gimped ports of PS3 games flooding the system can't be good. Unfortunately like you said, these ports are cheap and less risky so I can guarantee PS3 ports are going to makeup most of the PSP2 library.

Again, I've never been intrigued by portable gaming so Im unfamiliar with what the portable market wants so the questions I pose are sincere. I don't know if a flood of ports hurt the PSP and I don't even know if a flood of ports isn't what the market wants.

For great justice?

Seriously though, I'm doing it because I've hardly got much time for the old sitting in front of the TV and relaxing thing. I get more gaming done on the go now. More convenient. Plus it's a money saver.

One of the selling points is to be able to play your console game on the go, so while exclusive games would be nice, I think what they (Sony) are really banking on are PS3/NGP cross-platform games. Being able to take your game of Modern Warfare 3: 1944 on the go with you would probably mean the better team would work on that game versus a 3DS version (which would look worse and lack a second analog stick unlike every other version of the game).

And this is exactly why remote play between PSP2 and whatever Sony's next console is needs to be perfect. Then everyone gets everything!

I don't dig Sony and Microsoft consoles, and Nintendo consoles are always left behind, so I guess I am going portable exclusive, yeah.

I'll have to wait and see how much of support the NGP is getting, though.
