Who's cancelling their 3DS preorder and joining the winning team?

Looks great! Crazy good features, except I don't like that it is bigger than the PSP1!
Not sure who is audience for the PSP2 is... seems to be hardcore only, despite having all those touch features.

While 3DS seems more like a everybody system.

Can't wait to see some more exclusive original games!~

Correct, but isn't this one of the main reasons why the PSP got trounced by the DS? Slightly gimped ports of PS3 games flooding the system can't be good. Unfortunately like you said, these ports are cheap and less risky so I can guarantee PS3 ports are going to makeup most of the PSP2 library.

Some people are quite cool with that, and I can't knock them.

I personally play handhelds at home most of the time, and if it's a choice between playing on my 47" or 5" screens I'm going to choose the bigger one every time. I can understand how someone who travels a lot would be more into PSP2 however.

Another question (and one that Sony fans can answer now that the PSP2 is finally unveiled) is how many of you guys plan on going portable only now.

Nope but I imagine I'll be playing less console games. Hell, there's only like 4 announced games on consoles I want now and at least 1 of them isn't coming out this year.

damn the OP is just looking for some kind of fanboy argument!

Oh and for the record I WONT be cancelling my 3DS pre-order!!

Don't be left behind, man. You don't want to be stuck with two Nintendo baby games a year while everyone else is playing awesome shit all year long.

Again, I've never been intrigued by portable gaming so Im unfamiliar with what the portable market wants so the questions I pose are sincere. I don't know if a flood of ports hurt the PSP and I don't even know if a flood of ports isn't what the market wants.
And a lot of 3DS's library is going to be made up of PS2 and PSP ports, is that somehow better?

It just depends on how active Sony is in pushing new IP from their partners. Pushing a new IP at the start of a new systems life is the best chance to do it. I feel like it's overdue for a breakout Western handheld hit

It's nice to be on the winning team.
MEANWHILE, at Amazon.com's Headquarters...
"Egads! There's suddenly a demand for... uh... *checks acronym list* the Neo Geo Pocket?"
"Don't waste your time questioning it, that handheld market is crazy, just get on the line with our suppliers and make sure that our warehouses are stocked with Neo Geo Pockets ASAP!"

Haven't posted on GAF in awhile (deployed) and finally been catching up with the news.

OMG at NGP!!! Honestly everything I've EVER wanted in a handheld and then some.

In regards to the OP? Considering how much I play my PSPGo (aka Mohun player) and hardly touch my DS (despite having quite a few titles for it), I'm thinking I'll just stop lying to myself and admit defeat/submission to Sony. They just always seem to have both the titles I wanna play and the hardware I wanna play it on.
Honestly gonna skip on the 3DS for now and might wait for the first hardware revision (which we all know will come). Or I might at least buy one for my wife who's desperate for some more Animal Crossing.

Seems PSP2 is the real deal.

Praise to Sony, now we are truly leaving the handheld gaming ghetto
Goddamnit Wario

Pick up your Nintendo jacket you left behind in 2005 when you jumped on the original PSP bandwagon.

Then put it down and leave it at the door.

I will pass on both handheld devices. Portable PS3 sounds nice but I already have a PS3 that can be hooked up to a big, nice telie and it ain't shit as a handheld. I'll just hold off for now and buy when this shit is not so unreasonable.

I'm going car-free, except for my Ferrari of course.

LOL This made me think of The Office. Michael and Jan are forced to cut back so they get rid of Michael's car but keep Jan's Porsche. Sorry I just watched that episode earlier.

I really don't see how the 3DS and PSP2/NGP will even be considered competitors when one will probably cost half what the other one costs. The 3DS is launching at $250. The PSP2/NGP will probably launch at the reasonable price point of FIVE HUNDRED AND NINETY-NINE US DOLLARS!!

someone brought to my attention there's a GBA but no PSP on the trade in list bwahahahaha!!

3DS's battery life is disappointing already, and that's a much more modest machine.

I can't wait to hear what the battery life on this thing is gonna be.

I bet it will cost $150 with 3G data plan contract just to shut you all up... :P

Wait, you're cancelling your 3DS preorder for a system that has no firm release date, no price, no specified battery life, and basically no games announced outside of the usual suspects (Uncharted, WipeOut)?

I mean, I can sort of see why you'd be interested in knowing more if you like graphics, dual analog and Sony properties (all good reasons, although I personally don't care for those), but already jumping off the 3DS bandwagon and on the NGP one without knowing some of the most crucial information about it? Sounds a bit too hasty to me.

I said the same thing last gen with PSP 1 and look where that got me. I'm definitely more excited for this than 3DS though that's for sure but am keeping my pre-order and scalping it on ebay :)

I know I'm a horrible person but hey I'll probably have enough to afford a PSP 2 ;)

One of the selling points is to be able to play your console game on the go, so while exclusive games would be nice, I think what they (Sony) are really banking on are PS3/NGP cross-platform games. Being able to take your game of Modern Warfare 3: 1944 on the go with you would probably mean the better team would work on that game versus a 3DS version (which would look worse and lack a second analog stick unlike every other version of the game).
It will be cool if they finally got something to work. The problem is that, that kind of "feature" has been thrown around for decades. EA was at one E3 talking about the possibilities of connecting Madden games from the Game Boy Color to the Nintendo 64. Starting a game on the 64, uploading the info into to the GBColor continue playing on the go, save and then upload it back to the game...or something like that.

Technically the same can be done between the 3DS and the Wii, but it usually ends as something extra, something they talk or plan about for a few years and then end in nothing.

I'd love if they finally do it, so maybe Sony is responsible for finally getting it to done.

The cancelling is as real as it was with the DS and PSP.

How will that shut anyone up? So we are going to add yet another bill to our monthly payments? no thanks.

Sony really basically told gamers they didn't want their PSP money by not encouraging PS3 Remote Play support this gen. If Remote Play was universally supported by every PS3 game as a feature of PS3's firmware, the PSP wouldn't be essentially dead outside of Japan right now because people would buy PSPs just to play their PS3 games anywhere and anytime.

Hey ... HEY! Stop that!

The more people who take down their pre-orders on Amazon the more I move up in line :)

People say that all the time, that PSP was squashed by NDS, but if you look at the numbers from the PSP's perspective, it didn't get squashed, it just didn't run a pace nearly as fast as the phenomenon that was NDS (and neither has most other consoles in history.) Game sales on PSP never measured up to expectations, but hardware sales are quite notable.

Calling PSP a failure because the Nintendo DS was a runaway success is a bit unfair, it's like saying the DS is a failure because it hasn't moved a fraction of a billion software titles like iPhone has. In the hood, it's all good.

Why would you cancel? The PSP2 is so amazing that Nintendo just released a Press release.

They indicated with the power of the PSP2 they can no longer afford to compete and are leaving the video game industry. So the PSP2 cancelled all of our preorders

You know this is actually an EXCELLENT point. I see a ton of kids playing with their DS everywhere I go, boys and girls, some can barely walk. I would have to think this demographic makes up a significant portion of Nintendo's handheld market. Sure there is and overlapping section too, we are seeing it right here, but other than that we are talking about significantly different target groups.
