Who's left to add to Smash?(As DLC or Smash5 newcomer) Some Japanese fans have ideas.

Why is paper Mario so often requested? We already have two Marios! One is a doctor and the other is normal, we don't really need "flat Mario with a sort of different moveset"

Paper Mario is one of my favorite rpgs but I don't think smash needs any more not-waluigi Mario characters, let alone a *third* Mario

I'd like to see takamaru, ice climbers, Lucas, wolf, pichu, rayman, Dixie Kong, and captain rainbow. I'd also love another rep from metroid or f-zero or even Zelda as long as the character was rad (Majora)

Edit: actually Wonder-red is my most wanted smash character. He fits in better than bayonetta, has a super defining aesthetic and moveset, and I *need* to buy a toy of him.

And both console versions need the other's stage roster for me to even *start* to feel okay about the stages the whole "ripping straight from melee is too hard and some "retro" stages (wrecking crew, hyrule temple) get hd remakes while 75m and port town aero drive are both taking up space and looking ugly.

Actually there aren't even all that many hd stages, and the ones that are are HUGE so it never gets appreciated

Good to see people want Lucas back in. Hopefully someone is listening!

coinciding with Mother 3 VC release in NA.

In the run-up to Brawl I was convinced, convinced, the Masked Man was going to be in. I mean, think about it. We already confirmed that Brawl was going to feature Lucas, the Franklin Badge, Porky, and New Pork City. All it needed with the Masked Man to recreate the finale of Mother 3.

I'm surprised, and a bit happy that Japanese fans also want K. Rool in. Maybe he has a shot as DLC after all! Also glad to see people want Wolf back.

I don't care too much about Lucas, but if he gets back in, I'd also want Masked Man as a DLC newcomer. He would be great!

Yeah, I'll yskr Lucas, and the Custom Robo. I never even played like Mother 3 (or Mother in-general), I just like Lucas so much more than Ness in SSB. Actually enjoyed playing him.

HAHAHAHA, why not? Lol, Daisy would more be Manic Peach in all honest. Lol "Hi I'M DAISY".

Based on what? We have both DK and Diddy. There's no point to Dixie. Make her a Diddy alt like the M/F Wii Fit Trainers and Villagers

That wouldn't even work because Dixie doesn't have a tail. Plus you'd be leaving out her helicopter spin, which is only her most iconic move.

I don't understand your logic behind "we have DK and Diddy, therefore we don't need Dixie." She's a different enough character who's starred in her own game and is quite popular among fans of the DKC series. Why wouldn't she deserve a spot?

I would love to see Bayonetta in there, but as another poster pointed out to me previously, getting her in there with this game's rating and allowing her to be true to her personality would be tough, if not impossible. I would want the true Bayonetta in the game, not a watered down G rated version of her.

I want Ice Climbers (I know, technical issues…) and Snake to return above all else. I’m not comfortable with Smash Bros. dropping franchises altogether. Wolf and Lucas both deserve to come back, too.

As far as newcomers go, I just want Dixie Kong and a Rhythm Heaven character (preferably the Chorus Kids).

Donkey Kong is the most underrepresented franchise in Smash Bros. relative to its massive commercial success. It’s a top five Nintendo IP, but you wouldn’t know it looking at Smash Bros. alone. It doesn’t even have an Assist Trophy for God’s sake. Dixie Kong is playable in three mainline Donkey Kong games and appears in the series’ most recent installment — she deserves the Smash Bros. treatment. She’s an iconic character with 20 years of history, and she’s been heavily promoted/advertised alongside Donkey and Diddy.

(For the record, I’m not anti-K. Rool, I just think Dixie deserves to be included first. K. Rool can wait for the next Smash Bros. Maybe he’ll have appeared in a new game by then.)

And then there’s Rhythm Heaven. It’s an incredibly successful, multi-million-selling series with three main entries, an arcade port, and a fourth game in the works. It’s fun, quirky, charming, and has the seal of approval from one of Japan’s most famous musicians. And yet, similar to Donkey Kong, you’d think it’s some D-list garbage series looking at its representation in Smash Bros. There’s no character, stage, or Assist Trophy. Hell, there isn’t even a single Rhythm Heaven song! Rhythm Heaven’s representation in this game is truly a crime.

The lack of Dixie is really surprising. She seems like a frontrunner though for DLC/Smash 5 purely due to her promotion in the DK series.

K.Rool is so uninteresting, and ugly as hell. We don't need a shitty Bowser, and I honestly forget that DKC even had a villain.

Even Nintendo forgot about him. Dixie is the ideal DKC rep.

All in for a Rhythm Heaven character, though. No RH content is awful.

Dixie and Ridley are the only ones left that I truly want. Well the there is Sukapon and K. Rool to a lesser extent.

Dixie totally deserves her spot as a rep and after Spain Killer I still whole heartedly believe she is on her way as DLC.

Donkey Kong Jr 4ever

Better than Dixie as he represents an un-represented aspect of the Donkey Kong franchise (except the worst level in the entire series) and more unique because he's not another little monkey.

My most wanted newcomer since Sakurai's made it clear that he's never going to include Ridley:

She'd give Metroid a second representative (an actual second representative, not just "Samus again, but wearing something different"), she'd fill the Metroid villain role, and she'd represent the Prime trilogy nicely.

Her chances are slim, but better than Ridley at this point. And she did make it in as an assist this time around.

She's my most wanted new comer and I was super disappointed she wasn't even a clone or anything more than an assist trophy and an alt color.

The weird thing is, her assist trophy has four special moves that seem directional based, like she was almost a character and they just repurposed her as an AT... because there isn't really much of a reason why Dark Samus couldn't and shouldn't be a fighter. The game needs villains. The game needs females. The game really needs female villains. Metroid needs another character. Prime needs more representation. Dark Samus is just too perfect of a choice as a Smash character.

I just find it interesting that some of the fan requested characters who ended up as ATs in Brawl (Issac and RayMK) aren't assist trophies in this game.

I agree that Monster Hunter should be a playable character (with both genders) that could use a variety of huge weapons. The MH stage alone could be amazing. Maybe on the back of a giant monster?

The franchises that seem really under-represented to me are Advance Wars and Golden Sun. the latter has plenty of characters that could be in a fighting game.

They should put in that Doki Doki Panic guy.

IIRC the protagonist in the game (Imajin) and his family were old mascots for Fuji Television that commissioned Nintendo for a promotional game.

Seems like that would be a hell of a difficult third party to pull off.

K.Rool and Goemon are surprising requests. I think Goemon would be an excellent inclusion though, he has almost as much of a legacy on Nintendo consoles as Megaman does (and has too been forgotten about by its creator)

He's also the star of one of the greatest (and most underrated) action platformers ever made, Mystical Ninja Starring Goemon for N64.

I'm fine with the characters as is.

What I want are tons more stages. Like, I want so many more stages.

This is my feeling as well.

My current bet though is that Mewtwo and the Miiverse stage will be the only additions to Smash 4.

I think Goemon would be an excellent inclusion though, he has almost as much of a legacy on Nintendo consoles as Megaman does (and has too been forgotten about by its creator) K.Rool surprises me because I didn't think Japan cared much for the characters in the Donkey Kong Country games, even though from what I understand the "Super Donkey Kong" series did exceedingly well there. I'd want him in the game for sure.

I hate the excuse that Lucas wouldn't come back because he wasn't in a game in the West. Europe only just got Earthbound and yet Ness has been in the last three Smash Bros. games prior to the Wii U/3DS.
That only proves my point as far as Smash 4 goes. Marth also just got his game localized.

I hate to keep repeating this, but...

Why the hell was Flynn not in Smash 4? There was a huge co-marketing deal with it and Awakening by Nintendo, and they were positioning those two to be THE Killer-Apps of the 3DS, and then only Awakening gets representation in Smash 4.

Was it because SMT4 failed to meet Nintendo's "85 Metacritic, 8.5 user score" metric?

Pac-Man
Mega Man
Sonic
...Flynn?

There's your answer.

I'm starting to understand Sakuri's feelings on the roster getting too big, it feels like if the roster got much bigger it would become almost farcical.

That said, I always want more characters, unfortunately most of the folks I would like as characters are already in Smash as non-playables:

-Dillon
-Sheriff
-Waluigi
-Skull Kid
-Tom Nook or KK Slider

And then there are others which I know are very unlikely to happen:

-Bayonetta
-Takamaru
-That guy from Startropics
-Captain N

Realistically, I thinking we could see a Squidling from Splatoon, Paper Mario (who warrants more of a place than the likes of Dr. Mario, for those who argue we don't need a third), Professor E.Gadd and the return of Pokemon Trainer, retitled as "Red"

Man, what a crazy surprise it would be if Crash Bandicoot get into Smash. But hey, Snake got in once, and Snake didn't even make it into Playstation All Stars game.

My top picks would be
1. Strikers Daisy, with an arsenal of Mario Sports title moves
2. King K. Rool
3. Simon Belmont
4. Tharja
5. MOTHAFUCKIN' GROOSE

I don't really give a shit about Ridley, and Dixie just seems like she'd be too similar to Diddy.
I would have once said Takamaru, but the game is so heavy with sword users that I don't really want yet another one.

I think it might be best to stay cautions with any leaks, including reliable leaks because the plans could change anytime.

The lack of Dixie is really surprising. She seems like a frontrunner though for DLC/Smash 5 purely due to her promotion in the DK series.

Pretty much.

My DLC list isn't huge. I'd want Dixie, some Rhythm Heaven representation, and maybe an Inkling.

The rest can be saved for Smash 5.

I think they should save Inkling for Smash 5 but I would be happy if they chose to including Inkling in Smash 4 DLC.

I guess Dixie, Chorus Kids and couple of returning characters would be good enough for me at least. Odd enough that I don't really care who would get in. I guess I'm really satisfied with Smash 4 Roster because they made a great choices of newcomers this time. Yeah, I know I'm being biased. :P

Also I don't have high hope for any dlc characters other than Mewtwo.

Goemon as Smash 4's Konami rep would make me so, so happy.

Not expecting anything after Mewtwo, but otherwise Dixie Kong, a Rhythm Heaven fighter and Inkling (low chance) as DLC would be my most wanted. Any fighters from the many yet unrepresented franchises both famous and obscure are cool too (tho it's too bad Takamaru's stuck with AT duty for now).

What the heck is a Flynn?

What the heck is a SMT?

I'm a big Nintendo fan and play lots of games and I can't even answer those questions... if he's a third party character, it would just be silly for him to be in the game with Megaman, Pac Man and Sonic.

Also what the heck is Nintendo's 85, 8.5 metacritic score thing? Ice Climbers are like a 5 Metacritic game lol.

Give me Toad as a playable character.

If Captain Toad stays relevant there's a good chance he'd make it for Smash 5

Poor Dixie. I may not want her as a character that badly, but it sucks she's been cut from two Smash Bros games in a row.

Yes, it would be absolutely silly for character from the Megami Tensei series, which debuted on the Famicom in 1987, to join third party characters such as Megaman, Pac-Man, and Sonic. The only thing more absurd would be adding Solid Snake.

Dixie just seems like she'd be too similar to Diddy.
I'm honestly having a hard time picturing any moveset similarities between the two (besides their respective Pooguns, maybe). Yeah, they're superficially similar in that they're both cartoony apes, but so what? Robin and Shulk are both anime-inspired humans with similar haircuts, but they play nothing alike. Dixie would probably use her ponytail in inventive ways for the majority of her moveset -- swinging it like a sword, grabbing with it, and so on. Dixie would also probably have average stats, acting as a well-rounded intermediary between the speedy Diddy and powerful Donkey.

Pac-Man, Mega Man, and Sonic are world famous gaming icons who have been around for decades. Flynn is less than two years old and is a complete unknown to the general public. He just isn't guest character material.

Well, sure. Looking past Flynn though, a Megami Tensei rep in general wouldn't be too out of the blue. It has a long history of titles on Nintendo systems, after all. Jack Frost would probably be the better pick.

I'm tired of everyone's wild-eyed fancy when it comes to Smash DLC characters. People need to keep their hopes in check. We will probably only get one additional character besides Mewtwo at most! And we all know the only realistic candidate. I'm just wondering how they're going to retcon Tingle into the roster since
they're obviously going to make him DLC (I mean, obviously, right?)
and he's already an assist trophy. I already call the game Tingle and His Shitty Friends, even with him only being in assist form. It's just going to be awkward for all the people that like the other games in the opening when Tingle's introduction video replaces most of it. "Tingle Maps His Way Into Smashville!" is probably what it'll say. It might be kind of strange to have him floating in the background of every single stage though, especially since everyone will be playing as him. Thank god Wind Waker gave us all of the Tingle slaves so we will have viable alts.

You can't spot the difference between Sonic, Pac-man, Solid Snake, Megaman and the various Megami tensei protagonists?

Or are you not aware that each of those are basically the faces of the respective much larger companies at one time or another?

You can hardly say that about Flynn. Jack Frost is never getting in, and persona, which is really the only chance an atlus character would ever have of being added (and even then, it's still tiny), but that series is basically a Playstation mainstay. No, persona Q doesn't count for much.

For DLC, I'd like to have Lucas and Wolf back. Lucas seems hard because Ness has some of his moves as customs, but Wolf is more likely, especially with Star Fox U coming.

For new characters, I think DK deserves one or two reps because of relevance. Dixie is a given and I'd love K. Rool, as much as people here hate him. Kaptain K. Rool would be an amazing character.
Sami from Advance Wars would be a good choice too. The franchise is old and has a decent amount of games. Max or Andy could work too but I feel Sami has the most unique design. Franchise doesn't have a 3DS game yet so that could hurt it though.
Someone from Golden Sun would be cool too. Isaac probably since he's the main character. I have no idea if this franchise is still alive so that probably hurts Isaac's chances though.
Rhytm Heaven character seems likely for DLC, as the series is popular and has a new game announced.

For 3rd party, I'd like Snake back. Codecs were hilarious and he was a fun character. Other cool third parties would be Bomber Man (old school rep, like Mega Man) and Phoenix Wright (all his game are in Nintendo platforms!).
