Why Did The PS3 Fail?

Everything I bolded is exactly what the Wii is doing right. How can it not be about the Wii?

What I meant is that this is not a sum zero game. Had Sony / Microsoft did everything alright and releasing a true sucessor to the ps2 (a hardcore gaming machine with advanced graphics for its time yet an easy set up and reasonable price), they would be selling more but, the wii sales would be unaffected. The downfall of the HD consoles is not because the Wii is doing well, but their own fault. I really doubt that if the Wii hadn't existed the ps360 would be moving more systems.

part of the problem is sony's poor marketing of PS3 in mainstream media...or lack thereof......

anyone even so much as seen a warhawk commercial on US TV???? how bout lair, which came out a week ago???? I have seen a few Heavenly sword tv spots on late night tv, but there needs to be more massive ad campaign.....somethin like ads during the VMA awards or somethin....

cmon sony..get with the program

I guess it depends on what's actually written in the book. If it talks about the PS3's failure to maintain market domination, then yeah putting it out now is fine. If it deems the PS3 as a failure overall then it's too early.

This is true, I can't go 5 feet without seeing some Halo 3 merchandise or signage. Sony needs to step it up.

Most of us that talked about the PS3 as a failure meant it in the context of it being the successor to two of the highest selling consoles in history. It also goes in line with Sony's expectations pre PS3 launch.

An example of a "failure" in the same sense is the PSP. Sony set out to take the market from Nintendo and dominate it the same way the playstation did when they released it. The console didn't do it, but became the most successful challenger to Nintendo in the handheld relm and it is the 2nd highest selling "current gen console" easily dominating the 3rd place challenger. It is damn successful in its own right, but when compared to Sony's expectations pre-launch it is a failure.

What if he is from the ps3forums? He makes far more sense than people calling a PS3 a failure, and then pulling some random BS explanation out like "it failed to keep Sony's dominance!"

In that case, Wii & DS are failures because they have yet to sell more LTD than their ancestors...

360 is a continued failure because Microsoft still hasn't made any money...

Go play some games other than System Warz.
 
I'm sorry but I can't hold back. I don't know why the PS3 gets so much stick whilst the Wii seems to be greater than thou right now. The PS3 has far more decent game than the Wii. It has a decent online service. It's an HD media centre. What does the Wii have? The weather channel, that's what. People should also stop complaining about price. $500 is nothing. Over here where I live I paid £425, that's $850, and I still think it was worth the money. Any person on a half decent salary can save up for a PS3 within a few weeks.

For good reason too - the software lineup is pretty atrocious compared with 360 and pretty bad compared with Wii.

$500 is still alot to the average consumer & households...but $500 buys a nice entertainment hub....sony needs to market their PSN more.....ad campaigns showing off new PSN download games and get their movies/music download working asap.
I agree that PS3 gets a lot of shit even though sonys been improving the systems functions thru downloads and the demo updates in the PSN is admirable. wtf does wii have except pushin out more accessories and minigames marketed as full priced fares? there even any full hearted download service besides $8 for 10 yr old N64 games? liek demos?

Easy way to solve these problems too. Get all 3 systems. All three systems have their advantages. My Wii just gathers dust right now, but by December it shall have some good games. I'm addicted to Warhawk on PS3 and I'mm looking forward to getting a 360 next year.

What is this "console war"?

I know two people with a Wii, and one with a 360.

Two Wii owners are as casual as they come, and the 360 owner is a young kid who pretty much put his life savings into it. :lol

It's the funnest game out there. It's a war fought with feelings so people are particularly passionate about the game. You are missing out by pretending to be rational.
