Wii U Release Day Thread

Currently polling second in Australia's federal election (first in the Gold Coast), this feral may one day be your Bogan King.
I fully expect transfer tools almost identical to what the 3DS offers to eventually be patched into the Wii U. But I don't expect the system to ever have true, modern account services. You'll always be locked to a system, never in between.

I believe underneath the bullshit, your game purchases are still linked to your NNID (AND the system they're bound to). As long as that NNID association exists, I can't see why they couldn't create a mechanism to modify which system they are locked to via your account. I never expect it will be possible to have games in a playable state on more than one Wii U at a time, and there may well be some arbitrary limit like you can only change the associated system once per month, but doing so is plausible (and likely, IMO).

Yeah, but having said that, for iTunes, the being able to associate a device with only one Apple ID (and being locked to it for 90 days at a time) is awful. So many cloud services do this wrong.

The single ID system sucks but its obvious they rather have a family buy 4 iPads then share 1

I hope Nintendo updates their support page with new error codes and proposed solutions soon. Literally every code I have punched in that I saw trying to connect to eShop was not found. My experience over a 1 hour period:

Error Code (# of times it was noted):
111-1007 (13)
102-2135 (7)
102-2211 (6)
111-1035 (5)
111-9000 (3)
102-2107 (2)

During that time, I got eShop to load exactly once and could see nothing on the page. So frustrating.....it's so weird too as I have never had any issues with the 3DS shop.

Is Nintendo Land supposed to not save any scores? Every time I boot up I only see the highest all time score, but everything else is blank and the stats/records only fill up for that play session. The leaderboards say "recent scores" too but I don't know if its possible to see all time scores or not? Am I missing something?

Um, yeah it does save the scores. Not sure what's going on there.

It saves high score, but for whatever reason only displays high scores for that play session. It's pretty dumb. I'd much rather see all-time high scores and always be competing against my best ghost instead of the best ghost of that session. Feels either rushed or simply poorly designed.

So there really is no way to see anything like a top 20 list of best times/scores and who got them then? Weird and weak.

I kind of don't want to buy anything else from the eshop on 3DS/Wii U now.

Is this fixable on their end? Surly there is a way they fix this :(

This. Is. Not. Final.

This seriously needs to be stressed. If you're holding off on a purchase right now that's understandable. But if you already own a system you will be in good shape. The purchases are tied to the account.

There's been a lot of (some of it justified) downer talk on this thing, but I gotta say, end of the day - I got a new console and I love it.

Will QA for food.
Only a couple of hard crashes until tonight when we had one every ten minutes, or so trying to play Zelda in Nintendo Land. Alas. Turned on English only for Nintendo Land and MiiVerse, but it didn't help. Next time I'll go the internet-cutting route, especially if we have people over playing. Nothing more embarrassing than having your new console shit itself five times an hour in front of people who you've invited over.

Mine are all stick figures with hair flying behind the person to denote speed or wind. You're not alone.

Someone in my plaza had perfectly recreated the "gotta go fast" sonic picture for the Sega racing community.

I also saw a picture of Mario with sunglasses looking at a donkey doing the "dat ass" face.

This, There's no way in hell Nintendo can't retrieve the game/apps downloaded and purchased from each account, It's a matter of wanting to do it.

I think once NNID is open to other devices -- 3DS, PC, etc. -- is when we'll see an update that allows us to activate our account on another Wii U if our system is to break, we sell it, or whatever. At this point they just haven't activated this function.

Well that was fantastic. Was browsing the Electronics section of Walmart and came across their Wii accessories section which was completely wiped out of all remotes, only had one Gamepad Pro.

Walked over to the game case and saw they had a ton of Wii Play Motion bundles left. They were marked $49.98. I wasn't going to pay that but I remembered someone saying something about them being $15 online. Pulled out my phone and ordered one for store pickup. 5 minutes later and I was leaving with my $15 Wii MotionPlus. Thanks to whoever mentioned that!

Miiverse is a non-shitty version of Sony's Home idea (which was animal crossing). Nintendo did something right here. I enjoy the product and checking out communities frequently. Posting screenshots is awesome, when available (Darksiders can't do this yet).

I enjoy booting up and seeing all the cool fan art too. That's the best part. Some good stuff out there.

If Nintendo wanted to copy Playstation Home, it couldn't be that hard to take the Nintendo Land plaza and make that in real time avatar chatting style

Has anyone tried a USB LAN adapter to see if it's faster than this bullshit wifi connection? I just got my system and waited an hour for it to download the friggin update.

I wonder if there's a higher demand for the Pro controllers than Nintendo anticipated. They seem to be sold out at most retailers online (including Nintendo's online store) and I wasn't able to find one at GameStop or Walmart earlier today.

My USB adapter seems slower than the WiFi.

That's interesting. I'm considering returning mine. I just don't have a use for it and it remains unopened so far.

I realize this is very old news but: getting a Wii U online, downloading all the necessary updates and then transferring your old Wii data over to it feels like karmic punishment for misdeeds in a past life. I finally got to play a little Nintendo Land after half a day of screwing with the thing, and got two crashes only resolved by unplugging the console. The whole experience has put such a bad taste in my mouth I feel like just leaving it off until I hear word of some serious patches.

IIRC, Wii U is 802.11n compatible, so if your network supports that, Wi-Fi should be quite speedy. Certainly it outpaces my max download speed by several Megabytes per second.

I am beginning to wonder if this chinese wall between users and accounts is less incompetence (well, intentional incompetence, it is clearly incompetence in general) and more a severe overreaction to the PSN hack.

I've been saying for a year and a half now that this was going to influence Nintendo way more than people would like.

I don't know about anyone else but the TV remote function puts a smile on my face. Never saw the need for another TV remote but the Wii U made it so easy. Bonus: Kinda hard to lose the gamepad, so no couch diving for remotes :)

Hopefully it's set up in a way that once people make enough of a fuss we can see things transfer over safely, AND it seems it can largely be avoided by following good security guidelines. Though it probably didn't help that Steam had their own hack and Microsoft had people successfully conning customer service for awhile, but the risk of a system dying or being stolen is far greater than the danger from an account being hijacked. Especially since the latter is fairly easy to reverse.

Hulu Plus froze today while me and the GF were watching it. NintendoLand froze a few days back a bunch of times. They gotta fix this shit!!

This seems to be the only WiiU thread which hasn't devolved into the same outplayed power discussion where everyone is just tirelessly repeating the same bullet points over and over and over... Friday's only a few nights away! Hype rising.

Still no impressions on Trine 2. Anyone?

Trine 2 is one of my fave launch games, next to oddly enough Assassin's Creed 3. I have like 6 other games in addition to those that are all retail, and I play those 2 the most. Trine 2 is a gorgeous 2D scrolling, platformer, puzzle-solving game, and has online co-op with 2 other players.
