Yo I got me one of these Wii U's today (UK) and I want to transfer my Wii content over to it at some point, but I don't have the internet at home, and I can't find a way of getting component cables to plug into any of the monitors at work.

My question is, can I do all the updates, start playing games, download stuff from the store, and then transfer stuff from my Wii later, or does that have to be done at the start? It's not a huge deal as all I have on the Wii is 3 VC games and some saves... not that I fancy getting to 241 stars again in Galaxy 2 :\

So yeah, nice hardware otherwise.

You can transfer from a Wii as many times as you want whenever you want.

Club Nintendo stuffs: I can't register ZombiU because it says the code has expired. Presumably this actually means I can't register it until the game is released tomorrow?

Also, do I not get to register my WiiU console? :(

Also updating right now. Taking forever to download. It's a brand new network infrastructure, though, so I'm going to give them the benefit of the doubt.
 
Got mine today, just got done setting up.

Couldn't connect to my router so had to use the workaround, pretty dumb.

Updating now. Taking its sweet time.
 
News from the UK-centric thread....

My Amazon "Dispatching Soon" Wii U console is already loaded on to the truck, according to the assistant I spoke to. HYPE.

Same as others said for me, seems to be at the very least an hour, probably even more when it's done. I've started the update a bit over half an hour ago and the progress bar is around 50%.
 
Hmn, just received a phonecall that The Wii-U allready out in The Netherlands.

So.. to buy or not to buy this 1.25Ghz CPU piece of crap? Because i DO want to play Nintendo games in HD...

Updating right now, was there an option to download the upgrade in the backround? If there was, I couldn't find it.
 
Anyone else getting a Wii U in Japan? I preordered mine at Don Quijote which is open 24 hours. Anyone know if I can get mine at 12am? Did a google search but have come across conflicting answers.

I think you had to press cancel when it asked you if you want to download the update. From what i understood, the update would download in the background then while you can still play games.

Instead of hitting update you needed to hit cancel :D Edit: beaten!

I so LOVE the GamePad. Sitting in front of the PC, downloading games from the eShop on the pad and chatting with friends on MSN etc. So nice!

I did that, didn't seem to do anything in the backround, so I went into the menu and hit update again :P

Doesn't matter though, the update seems to move along fairly smooth all things considered. I'm at one third after 15 minutes.
 
Got my European Wii U yesterday, when the update wasn't live at all (beta of the beta!)

Now that the update is live i have a question about Wii mode... if i actually transfer my stuff from the Wii to the Wii U, will i lose the HBC? (and lose my possibility of using my retail US games on my PAL Wii) or does it transfer everything including the HBC&Gecko?

Just called up my local major EB, they open at 8am tomorrow! Yes! So I should be home by 8.30-9am, only 9+ hours to go for me!

PS the guy also said there weren't that many people there lol - although it's only 11.30pm our time.
 
GAME text me about an hour ago confirming my Black Wii U will be instore tomorrow. They have yet to try and force a guarantee or peripherals on me yet.......
 
As you scroll through the horizontal System Settings options, the sound will pan from side to side along with the scrolling. I like fun details like this.
 
Apologies if this has been asked, but there's no way to search the thread on the mobile version:

Is there any way to test the gamepad rumble? I have Scribblenauts and NintendoLand and my gamepad has never rumbled.

Also, when the hell does the gamepad home button light up? Mine's never done that either.
 
The download speed is definitely throttled, I'm nearing 1.5 hour at 30 mbps

Edit: Just finished, it took approximately 1 hour and 25 minutes

It won't transfer HBC, but it seems that you can install it later on Wii U if you want. I don't know how safe that is though.

Never buy Sega games at launch in Europe, they'll plummet down fast - wouldn't expect the eshop price to drop though if you want DD.

Also 70 EUR Fifa - lol!

No, Saturn was my Plan B in case Amazon didn't send one out timely enough.
I'll take the Wii U along tomorrow for a weekend home and it would have not worked out, if I had to wait until Saturday to get it.

I'll cancel my preorder at Saturn tomorrow, so if yours doesn't work out, there will be another one in the B8 center.

the way Hori made the application of it you don't have to worry about airbubbles. you apply it by sections. just make sure your screen is clean and dust free.

If you charge your eshop account, is it also possible to use the balance for the old Wii shop or do you have to buy another eshop card and upload it separately there if you want something from Virtual Console?
