Assuming that target.com is correct the basic set is in stock at all of the Target stores within a 30 mile radius of me and the Deluxe is in stock at about half of the stores in that radius. Why did I pre-order a basic at Gamestop.com? If anything I'll return that basic and buy a deluxe locally.

Just checked the local Walmarts and the deluxe is in stock at the three Walmart stores closest to me! Nice.

Does anyone know if you can return a Gamestop.com ordered Wii U deluxe to a local Gamestop store and get a refund or if it needs to be returned to the online retailer?

Yea, all of the walmart's and targets near me have them in stock as well.

Anyone else has a lot of interference problems ? My console is about 8 feet from me and I keep getting sound and video disconnections on my gamepad... It's unplayable.

I understand the complaints. I mean some of the problems present in the current WiiU are down right laughable. Yet, I can't help but feel like the GAF "WiiU is doomed" mindset is not a representation at all of how the majority of WiiU owners feel after a day with the console. Everybody I show this thing to instantly wants to buy one, and everybody I have talked to in the real world who currently owns a WiiU is generally happy with their purchase. Hell, even Miiverse is buzzing with positivity when it is actually working. There is just so much good here, I really feel like this has the potential to be Nintendo's greatest console in a long time. And some of these launch titles (NintendoLand, NSMBU, ZombiU, Scribblenauts) are great games, with others like Madden, Sonic Racing, and Black Op 2 show tons of potential for quality future releases in their series. It's just a shame that everything it has going right for it is greatly overshadowed by some (current) kinks in the armor.

I have not experienced this. Possibly a defective unit?

Agreed. It will get ironed out eventually.

+1

Rough launch for sure. FOR SURE. But I'm still loving it, and people I've shown it to have been pretty wowed.

Ok, TV control is pretty cool. I can control my TV and DVR. Unfortunately, I can't control the volume on my receiver with the Gamepad.

To the people complaining about install times, are you referring to digital downloads? Have you ever downloaded a game through PSN. Since getting PS+ i have regularly, and games always take an age to install.

I was going to go to sleep and thought I'd try the gamepad from the bedroom and sure enough it works! I'm lying on the bed and posting this from the wii u browser which has been working fine so far. It's great! Can't wait to try out some games like this.
edit: Also, I agree completely with skiesofwonder.
Is it just me? or is anyone else not being able to create a NNID? This is pissing me off... 4 freaking tries.
I made two an hour ago but the whole service doesn't seem stable today. You might want to wait it out and try again later.

Nearly every launch game is getting about a 150-300MB update, coupled with Nintendo dishing out that 1GB+ system update it's a slow process made slower by the speed cap on Nintendo's end.

Does anyone else have that analog to digital converter box for their TV? Is there a way to get the TV remote on the Wii U to register both instead of just one? That way I can turn the TV on/off and change the channel through the converter box?

I've yet to see a ps3 game take 40 minutes to install after downloading, and it was only a 5gig download...

Target showed the Deluxe as being in stock at a local one for me earlier. Called in and they said they didn't actually have any. Same with Walmart, but apparently the local one didn't get any in the first place.

Ahhh....definitely calling both Target and Walmart in the morning to check on the situation. I would much rather have a deluxe than a basic set. Thanks for the info.

people look at flaws way to harshly. im really enjoying my wii u. the only thing that bothers me is the clunky touch input.

To those looking at Target store availability online, take it with a grain of salt. I looked online at a few local stores in Seattle, and the website said they had both versions of the console in stock. I got excited, hopped in my car and drove over to pick one up.

When I got to the store, the two guys at the electronics counter said they were all sold out. I mentioned that the website said they had them, and they said, "Yeah, we know. We still have people's pre-ordered systems, and the online store can't tell the difference. Since they are in the computer, the website thinks we have them in stock. A lot of people have come in and gotten angry about it."

I smiled at them and said, "No worries, it's not your fault." I turned around and walked out empty handed. Guess I'll have to wait a bit to get my ZombiU fix. :(

Ahhh....more important info, it seems strange to me that so many Target and Walmart stores in my area have both versions available for sale still after launch day. I'm definitely calling in the morning to check things out.

So, it doesn't look like there's an option to change to full RGB color range (i.e. expanded and full, on the 360 and PS3, respectively). I mostly play on monitors, so I need this option otherwise the image looks a bit washed out. Hope this gets added in a future firmware update.

Or if I'm blind and someone could direct me to this option in the WiiU's settings? :D

Just did my first post in the miiverse, this stuff is quite fun to browse. :D

If you're looking at the Walmart and Target websites, then I can tell you that most of the information about availability is flat out wrong. I've been calling all around town trying to find one and the website shows they're available, but when I call the store they're all sold out. I've called various stores in different cities and all with the same results. This thing is gonna be hard to get for a while, which is unfortunate.

I feel like most of the people hating to much on the system don't have it or don't really care about it. I read all these negative things and I have experienced
none of them. It truly feels like a new gen , a new but familiar experience. Today's world is all about tablet and stuff and this is just great. I got scribblenauts
which is great, NSMB which feels awesome since I skipped all previous NSMB titles and ZombiU.

Also....
It's official: I can use the Gamepad on my crapper. My life is complete.
Did this for a couple of levels of NSMB and it was great.

When I come to think of it this feels a heck of a lot better than PS3 and Xbox360, Wii wins since it had a Zelda as a launch title, nothing beats that.
Still day 1 games are a lot more fun and a lot more representative of the hardware potential than either PS3 and Xbox360, one can only hope there
is still innovation in the industry. And as always Nintendo does it right, even if it feels gimmicky they deliver on what they promise at least. One can hope
the other companies just don;t get lazy making Michael Bay spectacles and completely ignoring great gaming.

Its like the gaming industry has been taken over by the Office Space bosses jeez.

Does anyone know how to make the WiiPad not dim a little when you remove it from the charging cradle or cord? I cannot find a setting that allows you to do this...unless I am completely missing something. I know at full brightness it will use up more battery power, but if I want it to be as brigt as possible, then I should be able to do so.

Oh and for me it took about 45min or so to get the update downloaded. I do have a killer internet connection, which I do pay out of the ass for, but it is pretty sad that they have to have such a massive day one update.

Hey, so can we take in game screenshots yet...? How?
I don't think we can take actual screenshots yet. If you go into Miiverse and attach a photo, you can only choose between whatever was on the GamePad or television before you entered Miiverse.

Edit: I think you can change the brightness settings by going into Controller Settings after pressing the Home Button.

When playing Mario, does anyone have to turn the volume on the gamepad down while gaming on the TV because the pad updates faster? A friend of mine was saying it was like an echo in his house since the gamepad has such a low lag and the sound played through must faster on it than his tv.

Just want to add. Netflix menu's while very similar to the Xbox 360's looks a lot cleaner and really is a lot faster...while initial load time to get into the app is longer. Love how you can just swap from pad to screen instantly. Pretty fucking impressive to say the least.

I'm watching Netflix while petting my cat outside at the same time I'm drinking tea and eating popcorn.

Wii U is the best console I've ever owned.

Yeah, it's convenience can not be overstated. Shit might be my favorite console in history, as far as hardware goes. 2D games on 3DS are pretty damn amazing, but this some seriously good stuff right here as well.

I honestly though it looked a bit worse than the PS3 version of netflix. Plus, the Wii U version doesn't do the auto play bit the PS3 one does. Still, that portability and feature set man...it's just awesome.

So I am watching a movie on Netflix right now on the big screen and on the small screen it has the details of the movie. Can you turn off the pad so that it is not showing a static screen the whole time? I mean, when me and my GF are watching a 2 hour movie, there is no need for the gamepad to be running on a static screen.

Hit the home buttom and you can turn the screen off that menu set. Not sure how it works while using netflix, but see if that helps.

Bahahaha welcome to 2012 where luddites who've never owned a tablet or laptop can drink tea, pet their cats, eat popcorn and watch Netflix in 480p for around 3 hours while in streaming distance of their WiiU. BEST CONSOLE EVAR

Wow people see your comments fast. I just posted a Metroid Nintendo land game comment a few seconds ago and already have 2 yeahs.
