Metroid is really, really good, and the wiimote+nunchuck controls seem to work better than in most Wii games that tried similar schemes.

Have you tried flying the ship with the gamepad yet? I only played once but it was very unintuitive when the action picked up. I think it is going to have quite a curve for me.

I love Takamaru's Ninja Castle waaayyy more than I thought I would.

Can you play Nintendo Land games online with friends or is it local only? If it is online and lets say me and a friend play a game can we both use our gamepad? or does one of us have to use a wii mote? I know local multiplayer requires the wiimotes.

It's local play only.

Hey Pineconn I found a way to fix the issue
no thanks to nintendo support
. All you need to do is edit your Mii rather it be the hair or whatever and save it. Then it should fix the issue.

You sure? I tried that with no luck. Unless I have to edit all of my Miis...

One weird observation...each time I put the GamePad in the charge cradle while doing the system update, it would error out shortly thereafter. But when I skipped the cradle and just went straight from the power supply it didn't happen again. Probably just an odd coincidence though.

It begins :D

You know, I didnt expect to have so much fun with NintendoLand, but its pretty good stuff.

Local only. Only online interaction it has is when Mii's visit your plaza, and Miiverse posting.

EDIT: What is funny is that Metroid Blast seems like the way Metroid: Other M should have controlled. Same with the music.
Local Only? That is fucking insane to me that it's local only, this kind of game seems perfect for online play.

Apparently the system defaults to "stereo" sound if you don't explicitly set it (I let it auto-detect my setting initially)

Much better after enabling surround.

Yeah flying the ship takes some practice, but once you play for awhile, it sorta works out. Dont know if its just something you'd want to pick up and play with just anyone though.

Ended up buying this Toshiba 1TB Canvio® Desk Desktop External Hard Drive, only paid 69 bucks for it and it is confirmed to work with the Wii U since my other External HDD didn't for some odd reason....

Same here, with my first external drive I got the helpful message "Cannot format USB device", and Nintendo reps didn't even know what that meant. But I got a Toshiba Canvio because that's the only hard drive sold in the US that Nintendo has tested in the Wii U, and that worked (I just got a 512GB)

I'm not expecting the other 2 consoles launch to be any better, tbh.

And my only real complain is the awfully slow OS.

As bad as this one? From reading here and watching quicklooks it seems the system is pretty badly baked. The load times are atrocious, not something I'd expect from a console these days.

I'm personally struggling to put this launch in perspective, but it's nice to read some positive stuff in this thread finally after all the bad news. I'm probably still going to get one when they launch here (30th) but every time I hear another negative thing I wonder if I really want to give Nintendo my money at all. I do think they have rushed this thing out a bit.....and that debug menu thing?! If true that's madness.

I don't know enough about the rest of the system to make a call on the terrible bandwidth that was revealed but it's just sad to see something slower than current systems in that area.

All I think I can hope for is that some things are resolved over the next few weeks and that we get info on the EDRAM etc to get an idea of realworld top performance.

Jesus fuck :lol

This is the message that got me banned: ''Shove that hammer where it don't shine.'' (Posted that after I beat a boss in NSMBU)

That's actually a great Mario pun. How could they? A lil harsh.

Do they sell Wii-U Eshop money cards like they do for wii/3ds? Also this wasn't really answered earlier but are there any guides or info i need to know about using an external HDD on the wii-u?

Anyone know if I went the reformat memory route to try to fix my game launching issue, will the NNID I made be deleted as well. Would I be able to attach it to a new profile?

I don't want to lose the gaf members I added or my digital downloads.

I cant wait for more survival horror games to hit Wii U. The duo of the gamepad speakers supplementing the TV speakers is great.

If it works anything like the Wii, you'll only lose save files/downloaded games, but your account should remain the same. Of course i'd wait for more opinions on the matter since i'm just guessing from my Wii transfer troubles.

Well the 3DS an Wii U use the same cards. Now they have $20/$35/$50 cards. I just plugged external harddrive in an it say it needed to format. Boom. 2 seconds and I was using it.

Has anyone seen any actual games show up in the Mii WaraWara plaza? Mine still only had the default apps, definitely not what Nintendo has shown in their videos

Awesome to hear.

Is the Wii-U shop kind of empty now? Think i should go with 1 $50 or 2 $50 cards? I have about $200 in gift cards and rewards cards and as now the only thing i can think to buy is Mario which leaves me with about $135ish. Also on the external HDD, do you download games to them and play them off it? If so are they noticeably slower?

There are $70 worth of eShop titles and something. Like 18 retail games. I got a lot of digital games, but they are downloading slow. I need to call Verizon. They are downloading slow to both the External Harddrive and System Memory.

Too many games to play. I keep jumping from Zombi U to Neo Assault Neo to NSMB to CoD to Nintendo Land... only game I haven't given much time to is Trine 2.

lol I cant wait to start up ZombiU now. How can anyone post protips if they instamod any "violent" sounding comment. Unless its community specific.

Like, did someone report it? WTF? No cursing, no slurs, just a common phrase that implies violence. They'll have to change that policy.

Is it fine to keep my tablet docked in the charging station at all times? I have it set up next to my Wii U and it just makes it convienient to keep it there even when it's obviously fully charged. It looks like the charging light does go out once it's done, but I want to make sure I'm not running the risk of messing up my battery or something by keeping it there.
It's fine. Modern batteries like the one in the gamepad are designed to be charged often. They can't overcharge so there's no harm in putting it in the charge cradle after every use. Same as a cellphone. It won't cause the battery to degrade any faster. The only harm would be to completely discharge the battery, but modern devices shut off before you can do that.

man i wish redbox did wiiu games.

im intrigued by zombiu but want to try it first

If you were a previous gamefly member, this is a really good deal. It's what I'm using now, ZombiU and Sonic are in the mail. It's really cheap to keep the game too, so I think instead of going through all of that Black Friday madness I will just buy them here.

I think either someone reported it or a miiverse moderator might have glanced at it without notification. I didnt get such a strong warning (just hiding my profile comment from public users), but my profile was flagged by a mod for having "Teknoman from NeoGAF" as my profile comment. I guess they though GAF was something else, so I just sent a message saying "I did not violate the terms".

They let you send automated messages to contest or confirm the moderator comments, so if you feel it was wrong, I guess you can contact them that way.

Called the nearby stores and so far only one has an available Wii U and it's still like 15-20 minutes away from me so I know for a fact it'll be gone before I get there. Shame they don't have layaway.

So I have been waiting on my black Deluxe 32GB Wii U at Target now. I went there on Sunday, and though I was told nothing when I purchased the pre-order card, apparently you had to show up and wait in line and get a number even if you had the reservation card. The manager told me that sine I wasn't able to get mine on Sunday that another shipment would be in Monday. I called on Monday and was told that there weren't any now, but to call back at noon when the UPS delivery came. I called back later to be told that they were gone when the store first opened at 8am even though I called at 8am and was told they didn't get any in. The girl I spoke to on the phone said that the reservation cards were only for the first day, and that now they were first come first served basically. I knew according to the back of the reservation card that she was telling me BS and asked to speak to a manager.

I read him word for word on the back of the reservation card where it says "The reserved merchandise for this card will be held at the counter in the Electronics Department for seven days after the national release date, at the Target store where purchased." This obviously goes directly against what the other employee told me where they were first come first served and I asked what he could do to help me out. He said there is another shipment coming in on Wednesday and he would put one aside for me (like what should have been done in the first place).

End Rant.

Aside from Mario this is pretty much what I did last night.

I've tried 4 times now trying to update this thing but it keeps losing connection, is this happening to anyone else?

And it's not a problem with my wifi

I think its a little crazy that NOA's Bill Trinen is going around making racist posts on Miiverse while users are getting banned for PG rated violence.
