Difference in quality between Wii U and 3DS screens is shockingly big. Posted a few examples here:

Still not up to Vita's quality, but it's good.

Yeah, the controller screen is decent. It just goes to show how horrible the 3DS screen is. It still falls short of pretty much every other mobile screen, but it works. I'm tempted to pick up Mario just so I have a game I can play on the controller to see how I like it for extended periods of time.

So I hate to ask, but how does GameStop do returns?

I've opened it and did a few things, and I guess I could say I never opened it, but they know that I was pretty excited for it. I'm just not feeling it, and should have wait a year or so before buying one.

Just preordered a premium at Gamestop in Italy! I bought three ps3 games at 10€ each in a supermarket and gave them to Gamestop for a 100€ discount.

I played it last night while lying on the bed watching Netflix on my PS3. Nice use case scenario. It's DEFINITELY a step down from the image quality on the tv, but it's totally sufficient and obviously has its benefits.

You'd probably do better just putting it on Amazon. Once its open, the only thing they let you do is switch for another...unless its a special case scenario.

All things considered I'm pretty happy with it. Played a bit of NSMBU on just the controller before bed myself.

There isn't one, when you link the system to Club Nintendo, it automatically registers itself so you get offered the 160 pt survey

Thank you for pointing this out. Also wanted to mention that CN gives me only until 25th of November to fill out the survey.

EDIT: I also wanted to mention that Miiverse posting is just 100 characters. It should be the same as Twitter which is 140, I think.

Does the Wii U do 5.1 (or better) audio out? What are you guys w/home theaters doing for the audio on your system?

Strangely enough, 5.1 only comes out when I choose Stereo in the system settings... when I choose surround, the back speakers are silent... maybe i'm making a newb error.

I was walking through the Nintendoland Plaza last night and there were a lot of quotes with obscene things/words in them. Pretty funny, but I'd be reluctant to let my daughter play right now.

Nintendo aware of long Wii U load times, freezing

Arguably one of the Wii U’s biggest weaknesses right now pertain to loading times. It takes quite awhile to boot up… well, pretty much everything. Switching between applications can take awhile. Even loading up a game isn’t the fastest.

Nintendo is aware of the long loads. It sounds like this is something that the company will be looking to improve going forward, at least.

According to Nintendo’s customer service site:

“We are aware that users are experiencing load times when they launch or switch between applications. We are exploring ways to enhance features for consumers’ overall experience.”

Some Wii U users have also been having issues with freezing and crashes. Nintendo advises the following:

Instances of system freezing are rare and unlikely to occur. If your system has frozen unexpectedly, do the following:

Reset your system by unplugging it from the wall for 10 seconds.
Ensure your system is kept current with available system updates (How to).
If additional assistance is needed, please contact us at 1-800-255-3700.

Old?

You'll only get digital 5.1 (6 channel PCM) if your console is connected to an HDMI AV receiver (not only HDMI pass-through). Any other way of connecting audio will give you a maximum of Dolby Pro Logic 2 surround. This console doesn't support Dolby Digital 5.1 or DTS to facilitate digital TOSLINK or coaxial connections.

Isn't it possible to restrict Miiverse functions for accounts (parental options)? That way she wouldn't see any notifications. Or are they not working/available?

They needed people to use the Wii U before they realized there was a problem with how slowly everything runs? Games load slower than the PS3, which I doubt they can fix easily since it's the drive. I would like them to power down the drive if I'm not using it though. I shouldnt have to eject the disc in order to get the system to quiet down. Spin the bloody disc when I'm playing a game, not when I'm not.

Yep, I could easily just shut it all off. I just thought she'd enjoy the cute pictures that most people draw, because she'd do the same. The people posting the garbage are the exception, not the rule.

If you choose stereo, your receiver may be applying prologic II, giving you surround sound. When set to 5.1, the wiiU will be sending 6 channel PCM. Does your receiver support that?

They're way lax on used returns but anything new, especially consoles, they are pretty much going to tell you no unless you really know the person working there. Since it just came out, you're much better off selling it on Craigslist or something similar. Even though it's open, you'll likely break even or maybe make a slight profit.

It should, but I get no audio from the back speakers when I choose surround. Maybe I hooked my back speakers to the wrong pegs?

I'm waiting for our mail guy to come make the drop off. Honestly not looking forward to foraging behind the TV tonight to hook it up. Anyone know if it perchance happens to use the same component cable and power supply as the Wii? That would save me a lot of pain.

Is it true that you can use flash drives to expand the storage instead of a USB hard drive? I only ask because I'm not sure if the extra hard drive I have laying around will work since it doesn't have an external power source and was wondering if I could use a flash drive if I needed a little extra storage until I get the hard drive situation sorted out.

Can you flag them directly out of Nintendoland? Can you flag at all for offensive content or only for spoilers?

Okay people Im in the UK where the Wii U has not launched yet. So to me you guys in the US are like some super advanced civilisation from the future.

So tell me, what is life like owning a next generation console? BLOW ME AWAY!

Mine arrived this morning. Gave it a wired internet connection via Wii LAN adapter, then walked away to let it update. No issues. (Well, someone had already snagged by user name, but ah well.)

Quite taken with the system at the moment. The interaction between the gamepad and the TV creates a sense of wonder. I love that little-kid feeling I get from new console launches.

Hope the indie support continues strong. Will be picking up Trine 2 and Little Inferno later today. Wish the store had demos, though, as I'd like to try Chasing Aurora before buying.

I'm still waiting for Canada Post to deliver.

Been waiting by the front door since 11am =/.
