Saw a new shipment of WiiU's at Target, couldn't resist!!! My wife is going to hail a shit storm on me when she finds out!

No offense, but I'll never understand the whole, "Ohhhh, my wife is gonna kill me when she finds out I bought a new video game system" thing. I sure don't freak out and get mad when my wife wants to watch a chick flick or do her hobbies.

What are some creative ways on telling her of my new purchase?

Simple, tell her you're both adults and that you don't try to interfere with her hobbies and recreation so why should she be allowed to do the same to you? Man up! (in a very reasonable, polite way of course)

I will. It works. Got stuck in a boss on ninja gaidenn went to miiverse to post it, and in the span of 3 min got 8 answers with strategy and encouragement without ending my game. It was awesome.
why wouldn't you just go to google and look into a walkthrough of the game??

Wrap it, leave it on your doorstep, leave the house. Let her find it when she comes home. Feign ignorance as to where it came from.

EDIT: On my post, EM2 and NG3 aren't my only options, they were just two that I see that I haven't played before. I'm really kind of thinking about ME3 or AC3, but I can't decide. If I get AC3 I'll probably sell my 360 copy.

It's a lot of money on something which is luxury, especially if you already have a few gamingsystems....

Finally organized the room to make space for the new hardware (shove the old Wii away, etc)

Also, this could get dangerous ...

Maybe your wife is super awesome, but negotiating a purchase of a 350 dollar gadget took a lot of patience for me.

Read my edited post above. If the wife wants to keep spending money on her fun girly things as she has every right to, then as long as clothing and food is on the table and bills are paid there's no reason a new video game console should be used as an excuse to nag and argue.

You could say you won it in a contest on NeoGAF, and one of us could send you a PM saying "Congratulations on winning the Wii U!" etc etc. for proof.

If you share a bank account, I dunno what to tell you there though. You're on your own.

So it's Tuesday and so far I have no lock ups or problems *knocks on wood* I love the WiiU Community. You see all the funny pictures. I been playing SMBU and Warriors 3 Orochi Hyper. It took a bit to get used to the WiiU Pro Controller, but now it's dandy. Loving it so far.

Beat her up and show her who is the man of the house.

j/k of course. Thake it like a champ. Shitstorm incomiiiing.

Ok, so I recently read about how in the event your Wii U breaks, you have to deauthorize the old system by calling Nintendo. I can understand why some people are mad about that but I'm not the type who really needs cross system downloads. What I want to know is, is my purchase history still recorded with my Nintendo Network ID so that if for some reason I was forced to get a replacement system, as long as I call Nintendo Cust Svc and have them deauthorize the broken/stolen console first, once I log onto my new Wii U with my NNID and go into the e-shop, all my purchases will be lined up and ready to be redownloading from my shop history again, correct?

The answer is no. at this time all your purchases would be lost.

Wait till she finds out what Wii U's RAM only runs at 12.8 GB a second.

All right, I think I've landed on AC3. I want to finish it, but it will be easier to do if I don't have to share the TV with my wife. She can have Netflix, while I have AC3.

"Honey, I just wasted money on video games. Should I hand over the divorce papers now, or will you be content with punishment in the stocks this time?"

Seriously, though, if you can't afford luxuries, you shouldn't be buying them. Or you should learn to make sacrifices ahead of time to justify them. I don't turn on the heat in my house unless the temperate outside goes to freezing. With this strategy, I'd have enough to afford a Wii U and a few games in less than half a year. That's not an option for a family, but I'm sure that you could work something out ahead of time.

By the way, are there any multi-platform games that are just as good or better than their Xbox 360 versions?

Can anyone else confirm new shipments at Target? I've been checking religiously throughout the day at various locations and still no luck. The Deluxe has been sold out everywhere since launch day.

I liked being about to use the stylus with the dock and not feel like it was going to tip over

Also, I generally like the vibe of using the Wii U, is this what I missed skipping out on the Wii?
For games that were designed around it, yep. You definitely missed out on that. You have a Wii now through the Wii U, so you can catch them there.

Do people think they'll be using miiverse actively in a few months once the honeymoon has passed? Don't you think for practical info and impressions etc, a good GAF |OT| will be better?

I sure hope so. I think miiversse will always be "neat," far more so than the mii parade or everybody votes channel. It's much more intelligently integrated into the system than those anciliary channels on the Wii. But it's community based, so you get out what you put in. I've enjoyed it immensely so far

It seems like tekken and sonic racing are that way.

Eh, don't care for those types of gameplay. How did Black Operations 2 or AC III turn out?

---

Will there ever be a version of Wara Wara with just members from your friends list? And of just Miis that are online? I'd like it to be a fast and natural way to make requests for online matches. Boot up, see someone's Mii loitering under a game tile you both own, tap them on the head for an online match.

Am I the the only one who feels like shit for not being able to draw? Some of these posts on Miiverse are amazing.

Screw what you think you can't do; I thought I couldn't draw either, but it turns out it's the only way I post on Miiverse. Just go for. Can't hurt!

I just want it on my smartphone ={

Here's my next question: May games seem like rush jobs when they probably should have been just as good with relatively minimal effort (on account of architectural similarity). Is this a case of:
A) typical launch window developer behavior
B) developers not wanting to write for a Nintendo Console
C) Nintendo's development process having massive early growing pains

In the WUSTs, it seems like all three were potentially existing factors. I note especially that a lot of devs sometimes had no idea how to implement various features that they were expecting to, or that dev kit upgrades would fantastically break regular code. Perhaps this was a major roadbump for their efforts, and we shouldn't necessarily blame Rocksteady for, say, having a building here and there without properly loaded textures.

edit: Substitute Rocksteady with another name if some other group handled the port, of course

BLOPS2 is great. I heard there were some frame rate problems in single player, but I haven't played it myself yet.. Multiplayer works great though. Everything runs very smooth. The GamePad off screen play puts it above the other versions for me personally because I love that feature so much. If you plan on playing multiplayer I recommend picking it up. Can't tell you anything about single player though

Well, if you were forced to send it in for repair, nintendo would likely preserve your purchases. They do so on the Wii after all. But if you went out and bought a new Wii U, transfering purchases may be tricky. Nintendo has done it before in the past but not consistently. Hopefully this is something they get sorted out quickly.

Someone's needs to invent a stylus-drawing-printer that takes images you send to it and traces them out on the Gamepad screen.

I'm unfamiliar with CoD games in general. Does Black Ops 2 have a splitscreen deathmatch mode? I was considering making it one of my first game purchases with the system (it's third in line in my list, perhaps surprisingly just above NSMBU) since Treyarch has a history of making concerted efforts with their portjobs, but I'd like to know that I could enjoy it with my friends in multiplayer mode.

"I didn't just buy it for Mii. I also bought it for U."

I've had no problems with AC3. Looks identical and runs identical (note: not always all that well) it seems compared to other console builds

BLOPSII is perfectly fine. I don't know why people are up in arms about it. Campaign looks and plays great, seems to hover close to 60fps at all times. Multiplayer feels locked at 60fps. No problems there other than underpopulated servers ;_;

Lots of ppl on miiverse are saying NG3 is far superior on Wii U but whether those impressions can be trusted or not...*shrugs* Couldn't say

The Miiverse and Wara Wara Plaza are extremely effective in gauging game popularity. Nintendo land and Super Mario U have alot of activity, but surprisingly so does ZombiU. After being put off by the negative reviews, I'm seriously considering buying ZombiU now.
I was on the fence about ZombiU and just pulled the trigger, played for about an hour and absolutely love it.

Yup. Wara Wara Plaza actually has me rethinking a Zombi U purchase. Seems popular and a lot of people are enjoying it.

Do you like survivor horror? If so, you'll probably like ZombiU. It's amazing how a single zombie is a cakewalk, but the second you have 2 or more, you start soiling your breeches.

All right, GAF, I need a game recommendation. I think I have enough gift card and trade credit to get one game.

Suggestions? Is there anything I'm missing? I see Epic Mickey 2 and Ninja Gaiden 3, but I'm hesitant.

I'd say ZombiU and NG3:RE. I <3 me some NG, and I couldn't remotely like the original NG3. RE is much better.

And shame if you don't get ZombiU!!! SHAAAAAME!!!!

Sonic Racing is a very honorable mention, as well.

Eh, don't care for those types of gameplay. How did Black Operations 2...turn out?

I lol'd. Who spells that out? :)

I haven't played any local multiplayer yet, but there is splitscreen or you can have one person playing on the TV and one on the GamePad. You can also play splitscreen and go online with your friend. I'm pretty sure there are bots to play against as well. I know I saw videos of people playing multiplayer with bots on the 360 when the servers weren't up yet.

The tension in the game is going to give me a fucking ulcer.

I saw 2 zombies a good distance from this ladder and thought ok.. I won't waste a flair, surly i can climb down and prepare myself before they get to me and lo and behold i climb down excruciating slow and i hear them get closer and closer and i am freaking out and soon as i turn around i had just enough time to push the closest one and smash the other.

I was squealing like a pig in those 10 seconds.

But it has a regular, free-for-all deathmatch mode? I get this impression that games have shifted towards team-based and/or co-op multiplayer, so I have to dig a bit to make sure that it's something I can play in my rather finicky gaming group.

Mario Kart lost a ton of replayability when they so shifted their battle mode for the Wii version..

Can you outrun them?
Zombies? Yes. This situation? Probably. I could of knocked them both and hauled ass out.

Hmm, every Target within a 10 Mile radius is showing the Wii U in stock
Call. The "in-stock" on these websites aren't 100% up to date.

When i was in panic mode and couldn't find one, every target and walmart said "in-stock" on the website and they were all sold out so i would call.
