To be honest, Gearbox has been weirdly unclear about it. They demoed the game for the WiiU, then went back and said it's not in development and haven't made any decisions about it.

I get the feeling it's one of those "If we have time" things.

I think it was Sega that said that. The most recent thing that could be taken as confirmation from Gearbox was the Wii U being a stop-gap and the Wii U version having higher resolution textures than the current consoles.

Which means more overall RAM.

Yay.

Kind of a random question but didn't know where to post it, is anyone else planning to sell their Wii after Skyward Sword? Wii U will likely come out in 2012 and it is backwards compatible so I can keep my extra remotes and current Wii games correct? Also there will be no major Wii games after Skyward Sword with the exception of Dragon Quest X.

Probably not. I am in the process of moving (quite a ways) so my Gamecube will not be making the trip. My controllers/games/memory cards, however, will be coming with me so I will keep my Wii as my defacto Gamecube and use the Wii U for everything else (especially if I can transfer VC stuff over, this part is key).

So you favor the "win button" over challenge, realism, and immersion?
Frustrating controls tend to break immersion while providing false challenge, and I don't play games for realism. I don't see how having to take 10 seconds to fire an arrow does anything other than make the bow useless 90% of the time.

I hope Retro is cooking up something good other than a DKCR2 which would hugely disappoint me. Retro has never released anything in HD with modern shader tech so I really cannot wait to see what they offer for Wii U in 2012 or 2013.

You know what I'd love to see? DKC Returns 2 in HD with modern shader tech.

When was the last time you played Skyward Sword?

I'm not saying I won't be proven wrong when the game comes out, but for now the concept looks like a gimmick.

I think it's a reasonable concern, it might be annoying after some time if it's like in Wii Sports Resort.

yeah the bow setup in tp is superior (point and click). it's not like wsr in skyward sword, but a sort of mix between wsr and tp. however, the slingshot is still point and click- or at least it was a year ago.

I still keep my GC, even after getting a Wii.
Most probably will keep the Wii, after getting (if) a Wii U

YES.

Returns is my favorite DKC game, but Jungle Beat is the best Donkey Kong anything gameplay wise.

I'll never understand the Jungle Beat love.

one of tp wii's greatest strengths was the ease of the pointer controls. now there's an extra step in there and it's stupid.

If the bow is more difficult to use than slingshot, but more powerful, then I think they could finally do something about the slingshot just being a thing you use until you get the bow. There would be advantages and disadvantages to using each, so there could be situations in which it would be more prudent to plant your feet and fire an arrow. On the other hand, perhaps the tactical advantage would lie in quickly peppering a foe with slingshot fire. I'm all for having more combat options, so I hope they account for these differences.

If SS´s need of bow usage is the same as in TP or any previous Zelda, it´s one step forward and one step backwards, so no real improvement, yes. However, if SS acknowledges the slower use of the bow due the more involving controls, it´s one big step towards a vastly more immersing game experience.

So true! Now it will actually make more sense to have both the slingshot and the bow! One will be fast but weak, the other slow but powerful.

because of touch controls, i'm far more concerned for the fate of wii u's zelda than i ever was for skyward sword.
I doubt that they'd opt for touch controls in a main Zelda game. Seems like touch will mostly be for the inventory and maybe a few items.

Wait, what's the extra step? There's one *less* step - you no longer have to point the Wii remote at the screen. That always made using the bow and arrow slower and annoying for me in Twilight Princess, I'd have to point the remote towards the screen, adjust its position until the cursor showed up, then aim.

Next they're going to tell us that Metroid Prime 4 won't be using pointer controls.

If MP4 comes for 3DS, that´d be okay. If it comes for Wii U, I´ll lol Nintendo to death when they try to tell us how awesome dual-analog controls are.

They will undoubtedly allow you to choose how you play, but I agree, pointer controlled MP is light years ahead of stick controlled prime.

Someone distance Eiji Aonuma as far away from the Wii U controller touchscreen as possible, just remove it from his devkits or something. Jesus christ they're playing with fire.

All puzzles with be Lens of Truth.
We already know that's what will happen.

I'll take pointer over dual analog any day, and MP3 controls are great for the game they made.

That being said, I may feel very lonely, but I still prefer, for a 3D metroid game, the GC controls, with the lock/auto aiming. I never found Metroid being a targeting game, but rather a timing game. If Wii U pad make Metroid going back to GC system, I'll take it happily (if it's a dual-analog, console-FPS style control scheme, I probably won't pass because it's still metroid, but I'll be disappointed)

i much prefer the gamecube control method over the wii control, as far as metroid prime. perhaps i'm just accustomed to the sticks, but mp3: corruption wasn't very fun to control.

Blasphemy. MP3 controls are AMAZING and better than any dual-analog setup I have ever used.

The thought of being able to play games like Zelda, Starfox, Kid Icarus, etc. on the big screen with AA and in HD is sublime. From a control perspective, with the Wii U it is now possible to have games compatible on both console and handheld. Technically, how feasible is it to do this since the Wii U tablet could essentially act as the bottom screen of the 3DS? If they were to release games that could do this, particularly thru DD, I think it would be a huge selling point to own both systems and would theoretically increase the game library of Wii U while potentially increasing sales of the game. I would gladly buy Zelda for the 5th time if they were to do this and would invest heavily into purchases via DD if they were to be able to incorporate this. I always thought that's what the future of 'connectivity" should have been striving for. It seems like a no brainer, but is this even possible with the two architectures of 3DS and Wii U?
