what kind of max graphical output would you guys be satisfied with? I'm not talking about what specs, I mean what kind of output when the system is firing on all cylinders would make you happy?
For example, if the best looking wii U game looked equivalent to the witcher 2 on high settings locked at 30fps, would you be happy? Or do you expect games to appear on the wii U that surpass the best looking PC games we have today?

AzaK said:Having left PC gaming behind years ago I had to go take a look at Witcher 2 screens and I have to say yes, I'd be very happy with that level of graphic fidelity. Is Witcher 2 considered top of the line PC because if so I imaging we won't get that this time round from Nintendo. It also needs to be able to render the tablet image too with will suck resources from the mainscreen.
AzaK said:It also needs to be able to render the tablet image too with will suck resources from the mainscreen. I'd be happy with lesser quality for secondary view cams on the tablet too.
Same here. Metroid in HD with modern tech would be phenomenal.
guek said:yeah witcher 2 is pretty high up there at the moment iirc
it's recommended specs are:
Processor: Intel Quad Core or AMD equivalent
Graphics Card: Nvidia GeForce 260, 1 GB memory / Radeon HD 4850 with 1 GB memory
Memory: 3 GB for Windows XP / 4 GB for Windows Vista and Windows 7
I don't think that's for "high" settings though, it's just the recommended spec sheet. I think it's reasonable to expect wii U to pull something like that off in a closed environment. Now whether it'd have enough juice to render at high with a solid framerate is another matter.
Absolutely. I'd expect 2d tablet views to have little effect and it's understandable that we'd have to put up with slow down or fidelity drop for dual view.StreetsAhead said:That will depend, obviously, on what is being rendered on the screen. A 2D UI shouldn't tax the system too much, but as seen in the bird demo rendering two perspectives of the same scene may cause some slight slowdown.
Hey I will be as excited as I want!Don't get too excited for Retro doing Metroid. It may not happen. They may very well be doing something else.
Although I expect that Metroid (along with Star Fox, F-Zero, Waverace, and Smash Brothers) will be one of the biggest benefactors of the dramatic increase in power between Wii and Wii U.

They can't afford to wait until after E3, especially if MS does announce there next Xbox.

Then again I keep forgetting about the stupid WiiU controller. Everytime I see or remember what it is I dont think Im going to buy this. My first ever Nintendo system I wont be getting day one and may not ever buy.

My interest dropped below 0 for some reason. Probably because every day I walk past my Wii that hasn't been used for more than a couple of hours in total. Nintendo really needs to work some magic in their next attempt to reveal wii u.
I read the first line, didn't get a clue, read the last line, didn't get a clue, read the last line of the second paragraph:Ubermatik said:http://www.operationsports.com/shadthedad/blog/15178-new-wii-u-ip-game/

Well a number of reasons really.StevieP said:What? Why? It's a dual-analog pad with a screen.
Unless you're like me and are lamenting the loss of the IR pointer and the regression represented by the upad.
2 hours? Wow, you must be the most poorly researched poster on this entire forum. To have a bought something with the game collection of the Wii and only have used it for 2 hours? You must've known you don't like platformers, sports games, party games, and adventure games before you made that purchase?FPS/TPS games that don't play like shit on dual-analog
I stopped at "A Mario Universe first person shooter!" caught myself about to balk then thought, hmmmm, maybe. I know Nintendo wouldn't want Mario associated with death and gore but something humourous, and maybe 3rd person would be better. Imagine all those crazy Mario characters running around doing weird shit, fighting each other in a team based game.Ubermatik said:http://www.operationsports.com/shadthedad/blog/15178-new-wii-u-ip-game/

So far it is one per system, but both Nintendo and others have stated that it's not out of the realm of possibility to have more - we'll have to wait an dsee. They won't pack them in and won't sell them at first, but maybe down the line, or of someone like EA really pushes hard enough (For Madden etc).HenryGale said:Well a number of reasons really.
I dont mind too much the idea of the standard controller still being the pointer and nunchuk. I say standard because so far the tablet controller is one per system, which is BS.
I restate what I've said before - it has MASSIVE potential, WAY more than the WiiMote. You can actually play on the thing when the TV is in use - this alone is a system seller for me! You can draw on it, so guide teammates in online multiplayer not to mention all the drawing type games you can do or just casual art. Imagine if Nintendo had a "channel" or whatever where people could share their artwork and rate it etc. Being a touch screen it has potential for browsing the web/checking email so much better than sticks or a WiiMote. It has a camera for video chat, and a microphone for voice; built-in! Touchscreen opens up lots of possibilities for inventory and other uses or course, and it has gyros/magnetos/accelerometers from the get go so that functionality can be used for all games on the system.HenryGale said:I also think its a HUGE gimmick. I dont think the wii was as much, it can be at times, but this controller is just pointless. Its also Huge and means there will be an inconsistant experiance due to the one possibly two per system rule. I'm also worried about lag and the controller looking not very erginomic. Not to mention its sliders not analog sticks.
The main device does use motion controls, just not IR pointer. But I agree, the pointer was very under appreciated technology and I loved it for FPS titles, but I would imagine most serious developers would offer the option of using either/or/combo - I'm not worried about that at all. And if a game really uses the pad really well, I'd sacrifice pointer controls for that.HenryGale said:Honestly Im way more excited by Kinect or a next gen version then what Nintendo has decided to do for their Next gen gaming console. Its like they are giving up on the Wii motion controls even though they are still going to be integral. Yet the main controlling device does not utilize them.

Additionally, most people play games solo; that's the biggest market for a home console. And if it's online capable for those AAA online games it won't need more than one in-the-room controller. One controller will be fine for most situations.

Anyone who's tried it seems to say that it's pretty ergonomic and light and easy to hold.
Re the sliders, it's personal preference I guess and the general consensus seems to be that they are definitely more than serviceable and better than the 3DS ones.
Re lag, we just don't know, but I doubt Nintendo would be happy releasing a system that was inexcusably laggy.

Since when do most people play single player. Since when is "you can play withe the tv off" important with a home console. Get another TV or dont be so addicted. Id rather play games on a larger higher res screen like my iPad than a WiiU controller, hell Id rather wait to play later. I dont buy a home console because I want it in my hands I want it on a 40 inch TV.
Also screw single player I like many other play multiplayer, both online and off. Hell wasnt a big part of Wii getting people to play together. Also we dont know if you can have more than one controller at most it will be two. I also cant bank on the online experiance being awesome, sincethey havent gotten close with that. Hell they havent even matched the shitty PSN experiance yet.
Also all of those extra experiances are gimmicks. They wont. Match the experiances you can get on a notebook or tablet or smartphone, so why waste time and resources on the, who cares about web browsing and. Drawing on the WiiU controller. I think the entire concept is comepletely misguided. Hell i think the iPad 2 and iPhone 4s or iPod touch as well as subsequent releases will offer better gaming and socia/webl experiances via apple tv by the time WiiU is available.
Count me as one of those people. I try to avoid multiplayer games, as I prefer single player experiences.HenryGale said:Since when do most people play single player

I'm rationalising because I think it's a brilliant move and I'm actually really looking forward to it. I'm not trying to think up arguments in support of something I hate.HenryGale said:Right. Rationalising a dumb Nntendo move. Sound like me Many other times.
Since the iPad came out and a lot of people realised they could game without the TV on a screen bigger than a phone or handheld. Since people lived with others and had to share a TV. Since the economy was such that people couldn't afford multiple TV's. Since people wanted a quick gaming fix without turning on the TV and getting setup for a session.HenryGale said:Since when do most people play single player. Umm, and you CAN play it on a 40inch TV, you can ALSO play it on a small screen if you need to. I guarantee I'll probably be gaming like that reasonably regularly to be honest.HenryGale said:Id rather play games on a larger higher res screen like my iPad than a WiiU controller, hell Id rather wait to play later. Well online mutliplayer makes the whole one-controller argument moot. Sure 4 pad controller support would be great for the few games that would use it and the odd times people can get 4 others together, but I do think it's a minority of owners that will do this. Even then, they will have all the asymmetric gameplay options like Chase Mii and Battle Mii for party experiences etc.HenryGale said:Also screw single player I like many other play multiplayer, both online and off. No you're right, you can't bank on it. In fact with the Wii U we can't bank on ANYTHING at the moment other than it will be HD and have a pad as a controller. However, everything Nintendo and 3rd parties have been saying suggests it will be better than the Wii system (Which was crap, yes). Just wait and see.HenryGale said:I also cant bank on the online experiance being awesome, sincethey havent gotten close with that. Hell they havent even matched the shitty PSN experiance yet.
