Hard specs for the Wii technically still aren't known.

ClovingSteam said:I am not worried at what Nintendo is doing for its bottom line. I am concerned if I am spending $350 on fairly recent technology that will not bottom out in a few years or technology that represents a previous generation of hardware. I didn't mind buying the 3DS day one for $250 and still don't regret that decision. I knew it wasn't going to pump out visuals like the Vita would and didn't care since its a handheld. The Wii U is a different story.
You don't need to build a $600 machine to become an all entertainment hub anymore. Sony isn't going to do it either. It all depends on how robust the OS software and networking features are now, not the processing power inside the box, which all next gen consoles will have in abundance.ClovingSteam said:With hardware that isn't significantly more powerful than current gen, to charge $350 for it? Ugh. I don't have any problem paying $400-600 for a console as long as its worth it. I paid the $600 for the PS3 and haven't regretted it simply because it has served as my do all entertainment hub for the last 4 and half years. But the Wii U from what we have heard isn't that much of a step above current gen so...
guek said:Wait, what? You don't want a console that's based on fairly recent technology? The reality is there's not much out there at present that's realistically going to be a huge technological game changer. It's unrealistic to expect the same kind of massive leap you got from last gen to this gen. Developers seem to be able to make whatever kind of game they want already.

Can't reasonably be expected to show what specs a console has. WiiU has almost certainly got more power than those preliminary dev kits show.ClovingSteam said:And?

bgassassin said:In other words the comparisons were being made not only based on the alpha kit, but underclocked ones at that.

I wasn't aware anyone had really said anything regarding the power of the Wii U in recent months.ClovingSteam said:No, I realize that. Nevertheless the type of language being used by those who have seen the kits and those who have some type of an inkling of what to expect haven't raved about a drastically increase in power compared to this gen. Those who claim to know what Microsoft and Sony are doing ARE using language that points to a genuine jump from the current gen to next gen.
Well not really. Peter Moore talked about how he was going personally to Nintendo to see Wii U and one of the big things he would be talking to them about was Horsepower behind Wii U, I don't think we've heard him talk since then though.Instro said:I wasn't aware anyone had really said anything regarding the power of the Wii U in recent months.
That's a faulty metric, unless the different types of 'language' come from the same source. Just saying.ClovingSteam said:No, I realize that. not in here, but ultimately that's pretty unlikely.StreetsAhead said:Has anyone done the obligatory "GTAV trailer was totes running on Wii U" thing in here yet?

there was also nothing in that trailer that looked incapable on the 360

Take Two couldn't even get Bioshock Infinite on the Wii U and Ken Levine showed up in a promotional video!
Mid- to late-2012.guek said:When is bioshock infinite set to release? I think it all depends on how far along GTAV really is and when it's set to launch.
With games like this though, they're probably working like crazy up to the very last minute. It's one thing to decide to bring games like darksiders II or colonel marines which were still early-ish in development to the wii U but if GTAV was already far along, they probably wouldn't have time to squeeze in porting it over. At least not for day 1.

TheExplodingHead said:As for a big EA launch title to flex the system, anyone else see a possible new Fight Night being one of the big graphical showcases? Was pretty much the first game this gen that blew the doors off 360 graphically (and Gears). I'd be pretty excited for it being a fight fan. That, and a new Madden that uses the Upad well would be right up EA's alley. Throw in a FPS port and casual fit thing too...
