Seriously though i want to know what people think about it.

Kind of random, but will games by Monolithsoft on Wii U look like/be on the level of Final Fantasy 13 or would that cost too much money and time?

FF13 sucked due to management which is not a problem with Nintendo I believe, and I think Nintendo has a pretty good grip on their 1st party development team so Monolithsoft could pull off a pretty good looking HD rpg I think.

Maybe not as good, I'd be fine with what Xenoblade looks like in Dolphin with maybe some better textures and slightly higher poly stuff. Keep in mind FF13 looked so good after 5 years of dev time and still was like half a game.

SS controls > All previous 3D Zeldas combined.

I had my share of issues with SS's control, but I'd much rather see that control scheme again with some refinements made than the old controls where sword use is reduced to push b to win. So I really hope motion controls aren't abandoned in favor of having normal controls with just a touch screen inventory tossed in.

If Nintendo could have those visual at that framerate while running actual game code, that would be a killer app.
They could easily do it I imagine as Zelda isn't really a CPU heavy game wrt AI and world simulation.

Probably a minority opinion but...watching this demo makes me really want to see the return of a Navi-like fairy companion. Yeah, Navi was a little annoying but, as we've recently seen, it could always be worse...

And a fairy just makes sense. You've got a young elven boy journeying in a strange and dangerous land with only his fairy for companionship. It just fits.
I absolutely adored navi.

Yup, agreed. A couple of tweaks and tightening and it would be perfect.

If the next Zelds uses the Wiimote I'll be heartbroken. HEARTBROKEN.

Like I already said in one of the SS topics, they have a dilema here.
Two screens/tablet was good with Zelda Four Swords Adventures. But SS motion controls are great too.

What to do on Wii U?
I secretly hope they will find a way to combine the two with ease. Maybe SS control sheme for action parts with sword battles, and tablet play for puzzles, and items. Maybe the tablet can be the main new item/gimmick of the future game, like something between the ocarina and the Tingle GBA (don't know the exact name in the US version of The Wind Waker).

I hope they don't do that because the idea of swapping controllers during a game regularly sounds very unappealing and tedious.

Already confirmed by Aonuma.

"confirmed" is kind of a loose term this far out.

I still don't understand how you can sell a new console based (at this point) entirely around this new controller and then have one of your biggest games just ignore it.

Not the most eloquent of propositions. I'm one of the few people on GAF totally sold on a tablet as a controller, which is why I'm pretty dead set on it being the sole interface for Zelda U.

Maybe you'll swing the Wiiumote around as a sword.

I sure hope that the tablet screen would be decent enough to display Wii games in their native resolution. It would be a blessing to play classic pad games on it (I'm looking at you, Xenoblade) when the TV would not be available for random reason like the wife watching those dayum series.

What would you know about controlling things? You're just a floating head.

Of course not him but he has friends that could lend him a hand. I'm sure your friends could as well if they weren't all dead.

Wish granted?

Controller screen in Zelda Wii U will probably just be item management (which would be a conservative but fricking awesome use of it.)

I want as many games as possible to be completely playable on the controller. That'd be most attractive to me. But I don't see how that fits with using the controller as a unique interface.

I'd buy a Wii U if the exclusive Nintendo games had graphics at that gif's level or better. I also want the next Mario to be like Mario 64 with big hub levels.

I've yet to play Skyward Sword, so I can't comment on the control scheme, but even if it's not good, its not excuse to ditch motion controls. They should learn from feedback and make it good.

That said, I think that since the Tablet controller is going the default one for Wii U, Zelda's team (and any other developer) has the obligation of making it work on the tablet controller. They can make optional control scheme with the Wiimote and Nunchaku, but everything that can be done on it should be possible on the Tablet controller too.

I agree regarding Mario although I think it's unlikely. That style of game just seems dead in the industry and it's not too casual friendly.

The great thing about that Zelda tech demo isn't the 'yay, Link in HD! Woo!' factor, it's that it looks good no matter what you compare it too. I don't feel weird saying that looks almost Uncharted 3 good, if not better (although it's dealing with a lot less assets, naturally, but still).

It also looks as good as it does because of the animation.

It was beautifully done, and I'd love to see a future where animation in games looks as good as that.

The HD demo looks great, but we're going to be getting better looking games by the end of the Wii-u's life cycle for sure
I'd say we'll get equally as good (or even better) looking games even at the start of the Wii U.

I still think the system will be more capable than people are expecting.

Reggie did said that: "The best looking games will be on the Nintendo platform." in one of the CES interviews.

Either he's confident, either it's pure PR or he knows.

If WiiU allows me to play Skyrim or Battlefield 3 using inventory controls on the controller and nothing as far as a UI on the screen, I am in.

Clean TV is one thing I am definitely looking forward to. I mean sure there are things that you'd still want to have on the screen, but damn I wish games had a 'hold button to show HUD'.

Reggie a puppet he don't know anything I bet if they did told him the secs he still wouldn't know he a PR guy for USA

when they ask him what are you doing this year they should just ask what have they told you so far?

Okay, first, put some comma in there. Second, he's the President of Nintendo of America, damn it. It's 100% sure they have the Wii U at Redmond, working on translating the OS, the games and whatnot.

No, Reggie is obviously an android and, as usual, nintendo cheaped out on the parts and he's outdated already. It's time for a next-gen Reggie. Come on nintendo! Get with the times! Stop living in the past!

Oh, going along those lines it would be awesome if they used the controller to have "widgetized" HUDs that I can pin on the screen at will.

Everything starts off on the uPad, but if I don't want to have to constantly look down at the controller and I want to have the game clock always visible, I can just pin it on the tv screen. Stats for just one of my characters? pinned on the screen. Health/MP bars only? pinned. Loot obtained - pin it.

Man, as lame as it might be, the potential to revolutionize HUDs and game menus is what I'm most excited about with the uPad. Especially since I see it being the easiest way for 3rd parties to utilize the screen for multiplatform games.
