Have they?

I thought that that was just a rumour. There were no quotes or anything in the articles that I read. So maybe they've complained privately, that's possible.

I guess it wasn't like a press release or anything, but it was reported by Bloomberg so I'd assume its true. I also remember reports that HTC and Microsoft were having some meetings and them saying 1080p was one of the things HTC was pushing for.

Anyway, I think Microsoft is going for an Apple-like strategy, essentially fixed specs that are updated yearly. The difference being in how they handle the non-premium market. Apple keep selling older devices, Microsoft releases new ones but all with consistent specs. Unfortunately, I don't know if we can expect them to stray from this.

In that sense, you can also say Samsung is releasing old hardware in the S4 due to its outdated camera. Nokia and HTC managed to have OIS in their flagships while Samsung has a "2011" camera.
That won't matter as much when Samsung trots out teh EIGHT-CORE

Feature lists and specs = selling points. It's not fair, if such a word is appropriate, but it's how things are. iPhones are still selling because of the OS's familiarity and app variety, Android is selling because of the insane hardware race between OEMs, and Samsung. When you bring up the all important feature list between mobile OSes what's WP got? A flashy UI and not much else, unfortunately.

Most reviews and comparisons are saying the Galaxy 4 camera is better than the HTC One's camera.

Personally, I just think Microsoft needs to try and shift their schedule to releasing new-spec devices in the spring instead of fall. That is typically when all of the new chipsets come out (along with their corresponding Android devices). The fact that we're 6 months behind on the hardware cycle is the main problem.

They can hide that behind a fancy number. "13 mp is the shit, yo", while HTC has to put 4.3 mp on their package. I wonder what will work better, marketing-wise.

They tout it as an ultrapixel camera which will probably woo some people, afaik they mention megapixel number nowhere.

Samsung already won by the sheer volume of marketing. Specs doesn't mean crap.

Yeah their brand, like Apple, now sells phones.

Because making good products matter, and we can all agree that Android can utilize all that juice. And making good products is irrelevant in terms of near-future sales when your marketing or brand perception is terrible.

However none of that would give you any evidence at all if HTC's camera or Samsung's camera is a better marketing point which you proposed as a question. There's no conclusion to be drawn there at all.

Alright, so specs don't matter after all. Windows Phone was always fine with old hardware and it always will be. I was wrong and won't mention it again (for a week or so).

Nokia should just put 14 non-functional cores in their next phone then.

Yep, now all we know is that if Windows Phone had better specs, it'd be #2 by now. Stop making stupid statements brot.

Never. How else could I be such a hater?

e: If you excuse me now, I gotta jerk off to those 1080p displays and 8-core phones, because I'm such a huge spec whore.

if marketing is so important then why would anyone buy a Windows Phone when they have seen for years that they simply aren't marketed properly and will fail to receive good eeveloper support because nobody buys them because they don't want to market them? why would anyone put themselves thru that madness?

I googled Galaxy S4 porn and didn't find anything, Google sucks.

Dear IRC fan,

Nope. People just buy on brand familiarity and media perception, and Microsoft has those on the negatives.

I was responding to the hypothesis that we would glean whether specs matter between a marketing battle of HTC One's and Samsung Galaxy S4's camera.

Samsung's marketing is very good, except I want to punch the guy with the glasses in the face in the latest Note II commercial.

On my PC I use the US Bing page and on my phone the US Bing search. Works great, except they buggered local scout going to WP8.

I don't know what's going on in this thread anymore. (Seriously though) Specs definitely matter, but they matter in a multitude of different ways and not only pertaining to performance. Somewhat like was said earlier, multi-core support at it's outset on phones was a misnomer. Android barely utilized the second-core IIRC from the white papers I looked at 6 months post release, but Android has steadily grown to utilize them much more. The OS is pretty darn smooth and has been for a while now--though the actual transitions, animations, and typography I still find WP much better (though I'm biased and this is all opinion anyway). The only issue I've honed in on with Android is the security of their devices--not that Google, I don't think, can really do much about it. They're very hands-off due to the open-source nature of the code-base, and I worry about future large-scale attacks on very vulnerable software that doesn't necessarily come from Google.

That being said, I work in security and tend to place a higher eye on those sorts of attacks. Not that I'm a big proponent of those 'ANDROID HAS MALWARE, ENJOY THE HAX' that some say. Though some of the studies seem to indicate that it is more of a problem than previously assumed.

For the people that gave me their emails, check it out. I'm planning on pushing an update tonight--since I finished it up this morning at about 4:30 a.m. and there were some typos and some debug dev targets at the bottom (purple links.....). Also, the older version's screenshots will be removed and updated with better screenshots of the actual version.

I wiped my device to make sure that the final version I was going to submit was working through my major scenarios--but forgot that the store needs screenshots. Those pictures of falling water are me pointing the camera at a picture on my laptop.

lifeLogger not available for me ='( (surprise!)
7.8, Brazillian market.

pm me your email, and I'll look into submitting it to the brazillian store with you added. No guarantees on that this week--since I don't know what the localization process is. Still in beta anyhow, camera lag is huge and no large features with the camera implemented. I have some planned/sketched out, but they'll be added by and by.

VanMardigan

has calmed down a bit.
I use Netflix all the time at work since its blocked on my work computer and I watch Netflix in the breakroom for lunch. *forever alone*

This update is great, finally fast app resuming and its much snappier.

EDD stands for Entertainment and Devices Division.

Yes I know what EDD stand for but since when Windows Phone is part of Xbox team. I am pretty sure they are not, there was hint that Windows Phone got fold into Windows team but I never heard of Windows Phone is part of Xbox team.

Your statement is completely misleading, just because Windows Phone is categorize under EDD (many others Microsoft team fall under EDD, but that does not mean they are working together. Windows Phone games is clearly shown that they don't really work together. Only thing Windows Phone have is the avartar and achievements, outside of that there is little Xbox functionality.

For wanting ads on your home screen and lock screen? Yes

I already own a 360 ;-)

But yeah, depending on the kinds of ads, that would be a total turnoff. But Facebook should be aware of that, no one would want that.

I thought that's only planned for a later date, though?
