Dragon Ball Z: The Tree of Might
latest

This film is unique in that there are five elite mooks (There's another short purple like the one shown) instead of the usual three.

This film I actually watched back when the Ocean dub made it a 3-part episode. It's my first time watching it as a feature film however. The flim Tree of Might is all right with the second half making up for the first, for the most part.

The Good:
Tien, Chiaotzu, and Yamcha are in this. Although Yamcha only purpose seems to be getting shit on by everyone else.
Giant monkey fight! Easily the best part of the film.
Turles is a fun villian. Helps he's voiced by Chris Patton.
The imagery when The Tree of Might was sucking the Earth's energy. This might sound odd, but it reminded me of Chernobyl in that nature is reclaiming the Earth, so to speak. And I interpreted the Green forest turning red as an allusion to the red forest.

The bad:
The first 25-30 minutes aren't good. It brings the whole production down and honestly should have been cut in half.
Chi Chi: Still unlikable and unsympathetic as ever. If anything, she might be worse than usual here.
Icarus: Kinda pointless and kinda annoying. The embodiment of every single "I found a wild animal that really likes me and my mom/dad/boss won't let me keep him" cliche. Could do without him.
How Turles was defeated: It's an asspull that is only explained by King Kai after the fact.

Overall it's a mixed bag. It could definitely be worse, but it could also be a better experience.

Nobody told me Erased was based off an ongoing manga. That kind of ruins it.

Goddamnit, mystery stories without a resolution are the worst. Now I'm thinking about dropping it...

Koufuku Graffiti 4

I want to know what kind of magic allowed Shaft and Ken Naito to make backgrounds this good.

Don't worry, I'm sure they will be replaced with some abstract, at most two coloured backgrounds for the BDs!

Ok, this is something, lol. Fully expect this to go in circles story wise, but they are shorts and it's funny, so let's roll.

I think the funniest part of Koufuku Graffiti is that the setup is Hidasketch but the focus is Soma.

Who was expecting food porn from a slice-of-life about art students?

I'm watching the BDs.

Yeah, thought so, but this made me curious and I checked out some BD comparisons.

Now usually in BD touchups one can expect to get off-model drawings and mistakes cleaned up, but Shaft is known to sometimes do extensive touch ups which weren't really needed.

In Koufuku Graffitis case you do have your standard off-model corrections. Left is TV, right is BD in all shots.

Shaft also likes to alter the lighting in scenes to achieve a more dramatic effect.

You tell me if this is an improvement.

More surprising I've found to be extensive touch ups of the background art.

Drastic improvement of the original bg art.

Some backgrounds got changed for internal consistency I guess.

While others were changed just because?

Looks worse imo.

I know they're going to cut several chapter from the manga, since even i think those chapter was not really needed. So yeah, good job on the director/script writer for trimming the fat. As far as adaptation goes, it's pretty solid, especially the voice acting. Also, based on the change in the first episode with the manga version, it seem they're going for anime original ending.

Re:re: rearrangement sounds really good. Can't wait to hear the full version

one of the few situations an anime original ending sounds great to me haha

Erased can't be that bad if it has the SAO director and Kajiura for music, right?

:p

Can't wait to watch it after Phantom World.

Kizu will have 2-3 minutes of action which is par for the course when it comes to Monogatari.

Well, at least it will look good. Although I've only read up to Dramaturgy's fight, which isn't that much of a fight. All the "fights" in Monogats are just Araragi getting destroyed anyway.

Assassination Classroom Season 2, Episode 1:

Shipping episode abound that is kind of touch and also kind of dull.

Way I see it, a poster like that for a series that is 98% dialogue tangents is kind or misrepresenting the product. It's not even purposeful misdirection like School Live or Madoka, it's just dickish.

No it isn't. Seriously where are you getting this? Everyone who watches anime pretty much knows what's up with Monogatari now, and only anime watchers go to see non-Ghibli anime movies. For foreign screenings of anime films, anyone who voluntarily chooses to go to them know exactly what they're getting themselves into.

You're arguing based on principles that serve a non-existent audience!

They sadly cut some parts of this scene. The only real problem I had with this episode.

Okay, this was the first show of the season I can say I actually enjoyed watching.
It wasn't an amazing episode, but it moved at a decent clip and didn't allow the comedy to get bogged down at any point.

The scene in the cave was easily the highlight of the episode, as it focused primarily on the comedy of Korosensei's odd personality, but
still allowed us to get a little insight on what other characters think of each other.

I suppose that's true for something that's been around as long as Monogatari.

Still dumb to me, though.

Medaka Box is very much an action series.

Monogatari is one of the most popular anime franchises of this decade so people know what they're going to see. The poster is appropriate for what happens in Kizumonogatari.
