Cave arc and the leadup to it are the hardest part of the show to get through on an early watch, mostly because you're probably used to shows where stuff like that doesn't really pay off.

Without spoiling anything: it pays off.

That's good, but still disappointing with how slowly it's building up all of these. I haven't watched many similar shows, but I'd expect to know some basic things already. At least, I'll take your word about the pay-off.

The empty bench
where two friends who once shared their dreams are now no longer around to share them
was a cruel image to end the episode on. This show knows how to make you care about its characters.
And want to rip Revolt apart.

Catching up on GATE and honestly, it'd be a better show if they focused more on the evil politicians and glorious nippon steel aspect that they already do.

Like the scene of the American forces trying to capture them and getting taken out by the Japanese forces. The American forces are all "I'VE NEVER FACED AN ENEMY LIKE THIS" made me lol. Oh Japan.

That was a fantastic episode. The tragic end for them is inevitable and this seems to be the moment everything went wrong for all of them. The scene with Kiku and Miyo was my favorite from the episode, the chilling words mixed with the imagery of the cherry blossoms was just great. There are a lot of other great visuals in this episode I enjoyed, one being the brief cut to Sukeroku roaming the streets alone.
This episode also revealed how Sukeroku and Miyo got together, it felt natural, in the way that these two characters have just been discarded, from different situations of course but nonetheless felt a touch of despair and sought out an embrace. But as we already know the story gets more tragic, these next episodes should be wild.

Bubuki Buranki: 9

This was a pretty enjoyable episode; the Azuma and Epizo interaction, Hiragi being a decent character, and Shizuru’s skills; all good. I was wondering why they introduced so many characters at once this late last week but with the 24 episode news coming up again this could still get itself together if it’s true. They can’t catch a break though, got Oubu up and running but about to be thrown into another fight, hope they win this one.

Weren't they being taken out by Rory? If that was the case, then yeah, they haven't faced an enemy like that before.

I watched the Sailor Moon Crystal season 3 trailer and:

Haruka and Michiru are still a couple!
What the fuck is Chibiusa doing there? Was she in the Death Busters arc of the manga?

no, on the episode before that one the Japanese forces are picking them off one by one with their weapons hidden in the forest. The Americans are all "damn I was in [x special force] and we're being killed off so easily, what kind of enemy is this?!?!!"

It was funny

But there's a really good show buried within Grimgar, one that creates a contemplative tone and gentle atmosphere with subdued characterization not commonly seen in anime.
I just really don't feel like that these sort of qualities are unique to Grimgar inside a medium that so often deals with "slice of life" style content. I can't say Grimgar really strikes me as "contemplative" either. Its reflective state offers nothing to chew on for the characters or the audience, and with characters and relationships that haven't built themselves out past the artificial world we've been shown everything feels like a joke.

I think it gives way too much credit to Grimgar to say that it's creating some world that it transports viewers to. There is no ecosystem. No real transparent economy or society. The character interactions are almost all hokey and superficial. Propping up Grimgar's hazy progression and lack of a future or past to label it as some zen-like piece that lives in its made up present just feels dishonest.

Eureka 7 12-21

After the praise for 11 (and 12,13), unfortunately, the show managed to do a Cutback Drop Turn and nosedived, quality wise. There are so many problems with it right now. The plot moves with a turtle's pace, and we barely had any significant progress. Anemone, Dewie and Dominic had a few scarce appearances, the show is almost at the end of its first half and they've barely done anything. The show lacks an antagonist that actually is threatening. The Coralian arc was great because there was a threat both to Nirvash and Gekkostate and it delivered some great strategic battles. Now it's just Gekkostate vs random military mecha. Moreover, after 20 episodes, Renton just realized that he's been killing people. I mean, wow, not even Shinji Ikari was THAT dumb. He's been creating purple explosions since episode 1 and he's been cutting mecha to half, did he really think they were pilotless? I could get if this was a plot point in episode 5 but at this point it's just laughable. Furthermore, now, it's a Renton Runaway arc., I can already guess this will be bad, but I hope his eventual return will mean he has matured...

Then we have Holland and Eureka, who are just insufferable now. Eureka has been sick and moody for 10 episodes now, doing absolutely nothing. And she even managed to turn to that purple thing and become even more sick and useless. Then, Holland has taken the meaning of abuse to a whole new level. I regret the fact I didn't create an album of every punch and kick he gave to Renton so far for absolutely no reason. It was understandable at first, but he continues to do nothing but blame Renton for everything, even when it's not his fault. Both of these would be a bit better if we actually had some answers about Holland's past with Eureka and Renton's sister or Eureka's origins, but the show keeps hinting all of these and at I'm certainly fed up with it. That's not teasing but just stalling.

I really want this to advance and be as exciting as the Coralian arc. again. The show is better than I expected and has some nice ideas, but it's an illogical borefest right now. Even the more "casual" episodes have been bad.

1. You're about to meet the best Eureka Seven characters.

2. The Holland and Eureka stuff has a payoff that's a key part to the current arc you're on.

Keep watching. You're getting close to one of the best episodes of the show, and one of the best episodes of mecha anime in general.

Yes yes. There is an awesome episode coming up very soon. (Phaze wasn't impressed though, lol) Like I said before, there are a lot of peeks and valleys when watching, but the peeks are really good.

Yeh, welcome to the good column of the list! *scribbles down*

At this point I'd rather expect the same reaction that I and Phaze got out of that.

"Meh, what was supposed to be so good about it?"

Then you post Jarmel's 'analysis' on it and Qurupeke won't find anything special about it in there either.

Fafner-Dead Aggressor: End
I do enjoy reading these long posts, especially since it's about a show I'm actually interested in.

About the only thing I'll point out is that I thought the conflict between the Neo-UN and island made a bit more sense than what you indicated. Aside from the leader personally going without a good escort, I thought everything else was handled about right. The island wouldn't readily want to cooperate with the very people who nuked and chased them out to sea in the first place, but also weren't willing to outright fight back because that would just cause them to end up fighting a war on two fronts. The nuke left behind on the island was partially out of ego, but also because the Festum were getting stronger proportionally with the island, leaving the rest of humanity struggling even more. The whole issue with the North Pole battle was that Festum intercept almost every radio signal, so an IFF signal would just an open channel for mind-reading and assimilation.

The Neo-UN make a lot of questionably stupid decisions on the overall scale, but I do think that it usually makes at least some sense from their point-of-view.

Sounds like Grimgar would be better if it was just Prison School.

Mikazuki is insane.

Cross Ange bros feels for you.

That's a different kind of ruining. Anime peaked at the episode of Cross Ange where Momoka was shot in the chest and died, but next episode it was revealed she was hiding a frying pan in her chest for no reason and she lived. That is actually making the show better!

is the the VA of the girl of Barakamon? Sounds like her.

Close but the VA is Hina from Barakamon not Naru. I'm going to immensely enjoy seeing a comfy sol cooking show about a single father and his daughter.

Also what's taking so long for Funimation to release Barakamon on Bluray? Heck even Ping Pong got a faster release and that anime is less popular than Barakamon.

I can't lie, the poppy songs and the lame music is why I dropped Grimgar, besides the characters being so jobber in a permadeath scenario.

So we have the requisite dealing with major grief episode though I liked that this one showed all sides of the conflict and their specific kind of grief and not even personnel who would usually get ignored get ignored.

Does Rurouni Kenshin ever get a main plot? Every episode feels like a bunch of bad goons show up and then get beaten to a pulp by the protagonist.

Where are you right now? There is a main plot, but it doesn't happen until around episode 20 or so. Not like the bad guy of the week was bad, I think it was more establishing the long term characters before suddenly BLACK FULL SCREEN EPISODE TITLE WITH MENACING MUSIC.

:lol

This shit triggers me becasue of Witch Hunter Robin where they
off the ENTIRE support cast in a gruesome attack by special forces, riddling everyone with bullets, so it's this huge fucking shock then next ep lol rubber bullets guyz

Just thinking about that riles me up.

No it was best when Tusk got exploded and then when they asked the producer and director how he survived they said that wasn't important.

I... do not remember this. I know they were being targeted, but what???

That episode preview 4th wall questioning the director... ROFL

With so many masterful moments its hard to even decide which one was the best.

But it's clearly when Hilda's mom throws a pie at her and it sadly slides down her body, and then when she leaves the cops beat her up for no reason.

Fairy Tail ep.9-11
Yup, I like this series. The adventure and comedy is staying consistent and the characters are all interesting and fun. They just jumped into a new arc with Happy stealing an S rank mission for Natsu and Lucy that they were not allowed to do yet and for reasons Gray is part of the quest as well. Lots of fun..

This
being saved from destruction in the nick of time by the enemy suddenly pulling out
made more sense than the similar circumstance in Space Battleship Yamato 2199. Taking pains to establish the discord on Nepos paid dividends there, as elsewhere.

Honestly I don't know what you expected out of episode 26 considering it serves as an emotional climax for a number of characters and is visually great, on both an animation and storyboard side.

Ranta praised Haruhiro for once?! Nice development in their ever growing relationship and teamwork. It was great.

I kind of wish they did more than just sit around. Ranta didnt seem like the type to wake up early and go out there and do things or that one of the girls was a rock climber. I wonder if she will put these skilsl to use later on.

Haruhiro's outfit doesnt make sense too, why have his arms and body cover but only like five inches of his shoulder isnt, shouldnt he do like his master and have more exposed? Ranta's dark knight outfit looks good though.

Weird to see one character literally question the themes of the show in such a blatant way.

Love the trippy visuals that worked in live-action footage to push "the Wired and real world are the same" theme. Nice moment for Lain where the camera pauses on her after her friend comforts her, thought it was nice brief moment of grasping "something real" type moment.

Episode seemed to mostly about escapism from the bored housewife, the loser in the apartment and the guy walking around with a computer fucking strapped to his face.(Ill admit that moment was a bit dated now when everyone's phone can do the same thing.) I liked the line about how giving people a platform to share information will inevitably lead to a lot misinformation and anarchist bullshit. Considering it was made in 1998, it was pretty accurate to what would happen in a lot of ways.

Weird observation does Japan love Basic Instinct? Second time between this and Paniponi dash ive seen a reference to the Sharon Stone scene. Like why? How?

Rainbow Days 9,

Odd to see the other guys hitting on Anna. Tsuyo and Yukiko are such a cute couple.

I actually started watching this on UK Netflix last weekend, so I'm absolutely definitely totally not following Cornbread.

...That being said, Corn pretty much covered most of my thoughts :lol

Schwarzesmarken - 09

This fucking show man, I just cant help but laugh. Everything from the bitch slaps, to the suffering and evil stasi plot just melts together like a glorious work of art. Oh yeah and there are aliens taking over the world or something

When
onii-chan took down stasi imoto after she straight up murdered flower girl in a rage fit, and she hugged him with her mecha
I lost it

I don't think I've been bothered by the Japanese wank fest until this episode.

Yeah. Ok lol

Hmm...DanMachi spinoff anime announced. Guess that means we won't be seeing a S2 anime then.

That'd be a shame. It was relatively entertaining.

That reminds me, I need to get back on to Konosuba.

Nice, it's a lot better than I imagined it would be!

Yeah, it's not bad at all so far. I mean I've heard a lot of shit about how it pretty much abuses the power of friendship and follows shonen tropes to a tee, but I'm liking it. I always feel that it's okay for a show to be a bit tropey if said tropes are executed well and you're engaged in the world/characters as a whole.

Well modern Japanese might. Theres certainly no waterboarding or abu graib in their recent past.

On the other hand modern japans basic non acceptance of any refugees says something.
