Yamashita the best
Plenty of life and hometown in this episode! Yellow's inner voice is awesome as always, wish they'd use that gag more often. Overall a very well done episode and really entertaining. TNs are interesting too.

25, not great but not terrible based on the amount of shows I've seen!

So original!

Futari wa Precure Max Heart 28:

At fifteen minutes and two seconds into this episode, I began to laugh and cry uncontrollably. This did not stop for several minutes.

I SHOULD HAVE REALIZED WHY THERE WAS SUDDENLY AN EPISODE LOADED WITH EXPRESSIVE FACES, GOOD ANIMATION, AND CRAZY DBZ ACTION IN THIS ZERO-BUDGET PIECE OF SHIT.

Troll foreshadowing.
The whole thing was extremely clever in term of story telling IMO.
Who needs slapkuga when you can have this?

Nodame Cantabile 1

Based on the hit comic book by Tomoko Ninomiya, this is a fun-filled quirky romantic story of two very opposite people.
Megumi Noda, or "Nodame" is a piano student at Momogaoka College of Music. An extremely talented pianist who wants to be a kindergarten teacher, she prefers playing by ear rather than reading the music score. She is messy and disorganized, takes baths several days apart and loves to eat, sometimes stealing her friend's lunchbox when it is filled with delicacies.
Shinichi Chiaki, is Momogaoka's top student. Born into a musical family, he is talented in piano and violin and has secret ambitions to become a conductor. An arrogant multi-lingual perfectionist who once lived abroad in the music capitals of the world as a young boy, he feels mired in Japan because of a childhood phobia.
They meet by accident. Nodame quickly falls in love, but it takes much longer for Chiaki to even begin to appreciate Nodame's unusual qualities. Their relationship causes them both to develop and grow. Because of Nodame, Chiaki got the opportunity to lead a student orchestra and begins to have a broader appreciation of people's musical abilities. Because of Chiaki, Nodame faces her fears and enters a piano competition. Opportunities open up as both begin taking risks, stretching themselves far more than they ever thought possible.

Well, that's a really, really good adaptation so far. This episode basically covered the first volume and half of the second one. They changed the order of some events, but it actually worked well! They really nailed the comedy part of the manga.
Love the cast. Ueno Juri (who I discovered in Last Friends) is a PERFECT Nodame, she's even cuter than in the manga. The way she speaks is often hilarious. Tamaki Hiroshi is also a great choice for Chiaki. And of course, there's Eita as Ryutaro. I already said that I loved this guy, definitely one of my favorite actors.
I'd say it's even better than the manga so far, but the latter still has its own charm so I'll keep reading it.

Why the heavens is Saint☆Oniisan only translated in french and not in english!?

(Though I know the answer has something to do with the religious connotations, BUT STILL!)

The reason given by Vertical
I'm sure I've said this before, but maybe not here at AoD...

For those who don't know I used to do work for Kodansha's Morning magazine in Japan before joining Vertical. So actually before I left to start my new position in the US I asked about some titles. One title was Chi's Sweet Home, which I eventually (but not easily) was granted; another was Saint Oniisan.

The then Editor-in-Chief of Morning Two magazine (who is now the Editor-in-Chief of the entire Morning department) immediately told me that Saint Oniisan would never be licensed in the US unless the readership here grows up. His concern was not about the superficial religious elements, but because of the heavy use of J-Pop references. And J-Pop in this case means everything from referencing Japanese newscasters and politicos to making mention of the current trends in fashion, music and Pepsi products. Heck one chapter was devoted to DS games, while another was about UniQlo and modern Tokyo accessories/hair styles.

More so than the funny relationship of Buddha and Jesus, it is the witty packaging of modern Tokyo life that has made this series a best seller in Japan. However, after speaking with translators here and editors over in Japan, there is a consensus that the title cannot be translated without endless notes. And in general we do not publish books that are not easily accessible as we would like all of our books to be appreciated by the mainstream. So a glossary of terms just doesn't work for us. It distracts from the reading flow and also often diminishes the impact of the jokes as well. (Mind you translating humor is an art in its own right).

That said, I was told by Kodansha that since I had a close connection to Saint Oniisan already, that the only person who could edit it in English would be me. So who knows now that the manga will be available in French (I wonder if they'll use notes or not) maybe we might do something in the future. We definitely have our eye on it...heh heh.

Gintama 263
"We're not brothers , you fool !"
is what i'll remember of this awesome episode...i guess that 'll leave a very high character develloppmenet arc for otae and shinpachi.

And all is good ! I'm surprised they didn't spend more time arguing ( than they did ) but this was really a beautifull episode.

Also :

More yoda and star wars in gintama is never bad.

VERDICT : EXCELLENT

hmm hmm... interesting.

Thanks!

So Kurita? Does the french version have an encyclopedia of notes or what?

Nope, there are like 1 or 2 notes per volume.
I assume they adapted a few jokes for the French audience but it's still hilarious.

what's the french name ?

(since some french publishers love to put nonsense or weird pun sometimes )

who is the publisher anyway ?

Hmm, in that case it sounds like yet another example of Vertical Inc worming their way out of doing something interesting.

I got 64! Not bad. Haven't seen most of them, mecha openings are just really awesome. Missed a bunch that I couldn't place.

Most proud of
Kotetsushin Jeeg.
That opening is catchy as hell.

How many times do I have to spell
Liger
? Christ! And screw you for not accepting my spelling of
Exkaizer and Might Gain.
And god forbid I forget to put
shin vs neo
. Aaaaah This quiz pissed me off. =< Mech shows have names that are too specific.

Had fun though, thanks!

So.... apparently you can sleep with Asuna in the new SAO game. I guess this means that duckroll's dream of sleeping with Silican can possibly come true. lol.

The funny thing is even if they are given the go to translate it, they can still worm their out of doing it cause the manga is approaching the 10 volumes limit Vertical placed on themselves.

I still think you guys were exaggerating how bad Porun is, but...if he's gonna keep throwing those tantrums about how he didn't want to be "it" and such, then yeah, the two of us are going to have a problem.

Kinda refreshing to hear Nagisa get so frustrated and discouraged. I like when the characters in these types of shows show some sort of awareness to their situation. And then Grandma came and told them a heartbreaking story about when the town was a little more than a pile of rubble after the war ended, and how a bunch of kids (presumably orphaned and homeless) followed her around, as if her presence gave them some sort of comfort. So she tells them not to lose hope, cause oftentimes things seem dire and beyond the point of no return, but hope can begin the healing process.

I wonder what Grandma's connection to the Light World and Pretty Cure is.

It's full on 23 minutes of colorful waifus.

Sounds like my kind of show! I think I saw kemonomimi in it too.

KyoAni recycling characters from K-ON! in Tamako? Who would have thought?

Their eyes are just black, aka nobodies.

mysterious black eyed children. Those things creep me the hell out.

Sadly it's going on hiatus again after March. :( Hard to know which to wish for. There is roughly six to eight episodes of manga material to work with. They could easily return in the fall for a thirteen episode run, possibly twenty six. :) Or they could go on hiatus for a year then have a nice four-cour run.
