Fuckin' right!

Actuals are up: http://www.boxofficemojo.com/weekend/chart/

As has been the case for a few weeks in a row now, Avengers was under estimated. It passed People Like Us in the actuals to secure #10. Depending on how badly ASM impacts its business, the Avengers could cling to the top 10 next week as well. Abe Lincoln, Snow White, and Prometheus all have a decent chance of dropping below Avengers. If it does so, it ties the Hunger Games for most consecutive weeks in the Top 10 this year.

Ted and Magic Mike were both very close to their estimates. Ted increase a little and Magic Mike dropped a negligible amount.

It is amazing that Seth had a good concept for about 3 seasons and he managed to spin that into like 20 seasons of shitty family guy, an actual good show in American Dad (which I hear he doesn't do anything with -- thank god), a horrid abortion of Cleveland Show and now this.

I may hate the dude's personality, ego and humor but that dude is rolling in it. He's doing something much, much better than me thats for damn sure.

For damn sure!

Amazing Spider-man midnight total was $7.5M.

EDIT: Not completely comparable since we are now in Summer, but $7.5M is what Iron Man 2 made during its midnight shows. I think the 6 day total for ASM will be in the $130-150M range.

Ted was sold out at 2 theatres I went to last night. Ended up seeing Spider-Man instead. I have a feeling Spider-Man is not gonna hold very strong after its first week.

For what it's worth, Avengers did $18.7 million midnight total.

TED made over $8M on Monday. If its legs keep up, we may be looking at another $200M+ film this year. Considering how many films have under-achieved or bombed since Avengers broke records, we need some more non-superhero flicks to redeem summer 2012.

Midnights don't really scale though, so it is hard to make any conclusions from them on their own. $7.5M suggests that there is at least some demand for the film. Transformers 3 made $8M on its midnights last year. I suppose that is a more comparable movie.

‘Amazing Spider-Man’ Shatters Tuesday Opening Box Office Record With $35M

TUESDAY 11 PM, 3RD UPDATE: More fireworks at the North American box office on the eve of U.S. Independence Day. My sources say Sony Pictures’ superhero reboot The Amazing Spider-Man opened with $35M (though some rival studios put the number in the neighborhood of $32M tonight). It easily sets a new domestic record for a Tuesday opening – helped by its 3D premium pricing – and is ahead of the original 2D Transformers ($27.8M) that debuted on Tuesday July 3rd, 2007. ”That is one huge number,” a Sony exec gushed to me tonight. “Unbelievable start to what should be a very exciting 6 days.”

I saw Magic Mike with my two sisters on Sunday. The place was not packed, but it was Springfield, Illinois on a Sunday afternoon. Majority female audience. The ladies were subdued, no crazy whooping and hollering.

My sisters HATED the movie. To them, the plot was too cliche, and there wasn't enough GOOD stripping, much less not enough stripping in general. I personally thought it was okay (worth renting but not paying full price), and I thought that ol'Matthew McConaughey was hilarious. He had this bizarre mentor/cult leader/conman thing going on.

A little over $120 million in the US and about $200 million worldwide.

Actually, a little under $120M and closer to $300M. The movie will end somwhere between $125-130 domestic and somewhere between $300-325M worldwide.

Amazing Spider-man will likely be the lowest grossing movie in the franchise domestically (Spider-man 2 opened to $41M on a Wednesday 8 years ago), but it should do well enough to position the sequel for big money. Assuming people are liking this film for the most part.

Looking good for around $150M over 6 days.

But I'm burned out on superhero movies, and 3D boobies.

It's impossible to get burned out on good superhero movies. They're the best movies ever man.
This past 10-12 years ,however long it's been since X-men 1, has been the best period ever in movies. We got movies about spider man, x-men, iron man, thor, captain america, hulk, the fucking batman, you name it we got it. There's never been a better time to be a dude.

It will still have good legs I think. It got a CinemaScore of an A.

While I'm not going to get in a list war, and your sink ball-washing reputation precedes you, having a glut of superhero movies does not make the past decade the "best period ever" for movies. Especially considering so many superhero or comic book movies are either severely overrated or flat out bad.

hahahahahaha

But seriously when X-men 1 and Spider-Man 1 came out, who had any idea they would spawn so many awesome comic book movies? Quantity? sure, you figure they were going to milk it and make a ton of them after seeing the success of x-men and spider man. But quality? Did anyone expect so many of them would be quality films? Hit after hit after hit, it's been unreal. For me it's the best period of movies ever.

X-men
Spider-man
Batman
Iron Man
Cap
Thor
Hulk
Avengers

So many good, quality superhero movies. The quantity was expected, but the quality i nvr would have imagined. There are mediocre ones in there like x-men 3, spider-man 3, ang lee's emo hulk, but these are the exception rather than the rule. And even those are all watchable and have entertaining aspects. I thought for sure the comic book movies was a trend that would last at the most 5-6 years but it's been over a decade now and we've gotten so many consistently good films, it's just been so great. If adults like me are like this imagine the kids, they must be in heaven.

Rocketeer was the first time i went to the movie theater, i was like 5 or 6 and still remember it and how i thought the blimp gettign destroyed was the coolest thing ever.

This I agree with big time. Would have been amazing as a kid to get to look forward to a new big budget, action packed superhero movie every few months when I was growing up.

Ang Lee's Hulk is the only one that would belong in a good Hulk movie list. Otherwise, there is no such thing as a good Hulk movie.

It's certainly not a great movie, but I appreciate what Ang Lee attempted to do. The other Hulk movie was terrible.

Who cares if a movie is overrated? You either like a movie or you don't, what other people think shouldn't be a factor.
