Wkd BO 08•18-20•17 - Dolled up Deadpool & Nick Fury team up, get Logan (not that one)

I always found it odd that more singers didn't get into acting, considering how they pretty much have to act in all their music videos.

Probably time consuming.

Andy Muschietti on ‘IT’ and Why Stephen King Wasn’t Involved in the Film

A quote:
In the book, the sort of burgeoning sexuality subtext stops being subtext at the end of the book. With the movie, you’re not doing that, but is there something you thought of to replace that or sort of get that feel across?

MUSCHIETTI: Well, I think the whole story is a bit of a— approaches the theme of growing up, and the group sex episode in the book is a bit of a metaphor of the end of childhood and into adulthood. And I don’t think it was really needed in the movie, apart that it was very hard to allow us to shoot an orgy in the movie so, I didn’t think it was necessary because the story itself is a bit of a journey, and it illustrates that. And in the end, the replacement for it is the scene with the blood oath, where everyone sort of says goodbye. Spoiler. The blood oath scene is there and it’s the last time they see each other as a group. It’s unspoken. And they don’t know it, but it’s a bit of a foreboding that this is the last time, and being together was a bit of a necessity to beat the monster. Now that the monster recedes, they don’t need to be together. And also because their childhood is ending, and their adulthood is starting. And that’s the bittersweet moment of that sequence.

How weird did you— was there a line where you were like, I’m not going to go as weird as the book did? Or do you make nod to like, the turtle, or the forest that’s behind what’s drawing them together, kind of equaling the forces behind Pennywise? Because he’s not a clown, there’s something bigger underneath it all.

MUSCHIETTI: I was never too crazy about the mythology, but it is mentioned, and the turtle appears, as a Lego. It’s a Lego turtle. It’s a presence that’s there in the key moments of the story. Especially when— there’s a moment where they’re all together— well, you’ll see in the movie. I won’t spoil you.

Is it referred to, or is it just like an Easter egg in the background?

MUSCHIETTI: It’s a bit of an Easter egg. There’s a scene where they’re screaming and it’s the first time the group comes together, and they’re in a quarry and they’re having fun, and you think there’s something under the water… Bill— I think Richie says “Who the fuck was that?” And Bill goes under the water and says “It’s a turtle.” We don’t see it. And that’s it.

Poster for Darren Arronofsky's Mother seems oddly similar to another famous poster...

Alright so I got my Moviepass card now, time to watch some mo-

nothing is out.

*frantically looking around*

NO MOVIES ARE OUT

Saying that, this August is the most I've been to the Cinema in a single month using my Unlimited Card in the UK.

Once I've watched Detroit, American Made and Logan Lucky this weekend it will be 16 films I've watched this month. A couple are hangovers from July I think and Terminator 2 being out for one showing.

It was the 5th biggest film of 2008. I think the question is, if they were going to make a sequel, why's it taken 10 years?

The first Mamma Mia was the highest grossing (worldwide) live action movie by a female director. Well, until...*electric cello starts*

No movies are grabbin' me, even the birthday one!

The first one was a big hit in the nordic countries IIRC.

I mean I know it was a hit, but it's been ten years, that's like Sin City level of delay

Since it's a slow period, curious what do you folks see the effects of MoviePass's 9.95 deal being?

Can't knock people for signing up. Surface level, I think it's terrible for theaters though. The people that rushed out to get a card are going to come to expect that pricing, they're not reading the parts where Moviepass is doing this at a loss to gather info and get their sub numbers up. They'll just wonder afterward why they have to go back to paying so much for tickets again.

Also, I'd imagine that previously MoviePass was operating like a seat filler for theaters. Small number of people have it, you have to be physically near the theater to use it. I think once you scale that up, it gets tricky. Theater is getting their $$, but I wonder if people that are going to the theater more often specifically because it only costs them $9 a month are going to bother spending on concessions. Will having extra money make them more likely to splurge on snacks? I'm skeptical

I agree, there's no way I'm walking out of a movie I paid for.

Yeah, as long as you look at it as "this isn't going to last, but I'll take this idiot VCs money until it runs out", then fine. But when you look at it as "huh, I guess this is what content costs, and I'll moan like hell and justify piracy when the house of cards falls down" (which will probably be quickly), then it's shitty.

And Netflix has shown people will tend towards the latter.

I've never seen it, but House 2: The Second Story is an inspired title.

The Living Daylights ought to be higher on that list.

io9 has an interesting definition of "non-genre"

I remember seeing Robocop in the theater and both being blown away *and* thinking "this is like Amercan Flagg! in tone!" and then seeing its creator in the Acknowledgements. Too bad we never got a Flagg TV show or movie.

Does anyone here listen to any of the Making Star Wars podcasts? Feel like trying one out to maybe add it to my weekly routine.

My local theater (7 screens) is bringing back Wonder Woman for 2 showings a day this weekend. Just regular screens, no IMAX; either the current set of releases is so shit they want it back, or it's pat of the re-expansion. Or both! Either way I'm going to try and catch it one last time.
