Wkd BO 08•18-20•17 - Dolled up Deadpool & Nick Fury team up, get Logan (not that one)

Just saw Taika Waititi tweet that Ragnarok's runtime is 90min flat.

he then joked that the credits are 40 min long, but he was responding to a report that the film was 2hr 10min. So I'm inclined to believe he's actually correcting the inaccurate runtime.

Was this already revealed prior and I just forgot that he's said this once before?

Would that be the shortest MCU film? Or was Incredible Hulk south of 90 min

@GiteshPandya: #1 global blockbuster this summer is #DespicableMe3 currently standing at mammoth $948.4M. Intl crosses $700M soon & final will hit $1B.
Wow. The only billion film of the summer. they really went under the radar.

Someone asked about Spider-Man on the last page. Given the holiday next weekend, I think that Homecoming can hit $330M total domestically.

Before Summer even began, I thought that DM3 was the only near lock for $1B. It having to crawl there is sort of surprising, but I didn't foresee the > $100M drop from DM2 domestically. I figured that it would be closer to Minions, but I guess American audiences are starting to move on.

We had the meltdown thread when the runtime was billed at 100 minutes, just imagine what a 90 one will do.

As far as I'm aware, every MCU film thus far is over 100 minutes. Although not 100% whether that doesn't include credits/post-credits.

Oh, that's neat. I kinda miss the days of sub two hours blockbusters.
And Hulk was at least 100 minutes long I'm pretty sure, so yes Ragnarok is probably the shortest one.

Confirms that over half of GAF won't pay to see it. It also means that any thread about it will be people that didn't see it complaining about the runtime.

Still need to catch Dunkirk in Imax, Atomic Blonde, War of the Planet of the Apes and Wind River (though I gotta head downtown for that one), before then end of the month when I'l be heading out to work for what might be the next month. Anything I should prioritize? I only have a couple days before I have to start traveling again.

Why pay $10-15 to see a 90 minute film when you can stay home and spend 90 minutes bitching about it on GAF instead?

Check to see if Dunkirk is still going to be in your IMAX on Friday. Wonder Woman is going to take some showings. If Dunkirk is gone on Friday, go to that tomorrow.

Gotta see Dunkirk and Apes

Then see ATOMIC BLONDE

Did the Movie Pass deal sway anyone's opinion about "length of movie = value of movie"?

People still need to factor in their 60 ounce soda, bucket of popcorn, plate of wings, and pint of beer with every showing.

All movie pass did was drop the price of a movie from $50 per person to $35.

That's not even counting your car payment and vehicular wear and tear if you have to drive to the theatre.

All of these have to be factored in at a per minute of screentime basis.

Don't forget tipping the cashiers.

I wish my local theater allowed beer. Although, one is next door to a liquor store with a growler bar. I have gone there and had a pint or so before a film then walked to the theater before a film.

Don't forget tipping the cashiers.

And the cost of applause at the end.

The first DM movie was pretty good. It was cute story about the villain adopting three little girls. Them and the minions were pretty good in that film

DM2 completely ignored the three little girls who were the best part of the first film and had a very forgettable love intrest be the main character. They also doubled down on the minions. Not surprise DM3 didn't do as well. I skipped it because DM2 was a bad film in my opinion. I at least though DM 1 was good and enjoyable.

Is that before or after the interest on the car payment?

After.

Also. If you are not a homeowner, you have to remember to include the portion of your monthly rent that you are paying while on your journey to the theatre. If you pay $1000 a month, that works out to $4-5 of wasted rent (assuming a 3-4 hour round trip) where you weren't at home to enjoy your living space.

Okay, now we're hitting it a little too close

What's this about WW taking some showings?

Are they doing an 'end of run' push?

NM: google was my friend, gave me the answer :)

Meanwhile, summer's biggest film — Wonder Woman — is reportedly adding 1,000 theaters this weekend (including some IMAX locations) as it looks to mirror the late summer expansion employed by Jurassic World ahead of Labor Day weekend in 2015. Sleeper hit Baby Driver is also adding an estimated 800 locations this weekend, although it may still land outside the top ten. Source

1000, should give it a nice increase.

Wonder Woman Warner Bros. $2,800,000 $407,320,000 +156% (Estimate)

I estimated myself without this theatre expansion the film would have gained around $600k this weekend, getting it to $405~

Jurassic World is a great comparison, they released the same time of the year, are at the same sort of figures for their respective weeks (Wonder woman doing slightly better). Jurassic world was pulling in 100k on Thursday, then the expansion happened and it added $12.2m to the end of its run.

If that occurs with WW we're looking at $417m~ total.

Wow, 1,000 theaters, I hadn't heard that yet. Should be a nice weekend for WW in that case.

He's never been on it.

There isn't a stitch of the marketing, so far as I know, crediting the lasso guy who has most of the badass trailer moments and half the dialog.

He's just "that one dude"

Its shitty

Well that sucks. Especially since he's one of the only POC in the cast, aside from Halle.

Explain MoviePass to me, a lowly swede.

The Movie Pass is just a MasterCard.

You use the app which lists the theaters/movies
You check-in to the movie via the app.
You go to the kiosk (or register) and select the movie you want to see and then pay for it with your movie pass.

Restrictions:
You can use the card once a day.
No 3D / IMAX

Used it yesterday for the first time and it worked great. We will see if their business can last because it's $10 a month and as far as I know they don't have any deals with these theaters and are paying the full price of the ticket.

That's pretty good.
