Low 180s when actuals come out tomorrow it is then.

There is pretty much 0% chance that Star Wars takes the opening weekend record. It's a December release. Winter films have lower openings, longer legs.

It has a slight chance, maybe like 5-10%.

I am pretty sure nearly everyone's was ruined. I don't think anyone predicted below 500 mil in there did they?

No, I don't think they did. I had my shit scaled in proportion to this film getting a 200+ opening weekend.

I mean, I already knew I was going to lose that thing spectacularly, but this is on some "I called Duke to go to the Final Four in my office pool" shit, and the Michigan Mayweathers took a dump on my bracket in the first round

Next time Marvel should think about releasing a film that wasn't during the greatest weekend for sports. Between the disappointing boxing match, amazing game 7 clippers / spurs playoffs, Kentucky Derby, NHL playoffs and draft... it's kind of remarkable people even went out to see a movie. Though I will say this, I think everyone was expecting 200 million opening... kind of a head scratcher when a film doesn't deliver.

This is kind of overblown. The only event people might miss avengers for would have been the fight. You could catch the game 7 and still see Avengers, no one who cares enough about the Derby to make a day out of it even has Avengers on their radar, and the hockey game was only game 2 (the most missable game out of a series).

I say:
Age Ultron final tally will be - 450 mil
Star Wars - 585 mil

Star Wars opening weekend will be about 110 mil and leg it out.

With that, Samuel Jackson becomes the highest-grossing actor of all-time.
He has/will have a comfortable lead over Tom hanks and Morgan freeman.

We are getting Paul Blart 3 aren't we?

Two isn't even at half the first movies haul. I don't know where else it has to open overseas, if anywhere, but right now it has made 1/3 of what the first did there, and half what it did domestically. And now Avengers is out there taking all the box office money.

Seems like a slightly risky move to go for a Third movie with that kind of drop. Unless they make a fuck ton on DVD/Blu-ray/On Demand. Which I imagine is very possible. I guess I wouldn't be surprised either way as far as a sequel goes, but I wouldn't bet on one happening for sure.

Its all up to these guys now

I'm so used to Entertainment Weekly's shitty covers, this is real nice looking.

Curious as to what next week's drops are going to be. Word of mouth on this one doesn't appear to be AS good as it was for the first one, and it's already started at a disadvantage. The fight took a chunk out of its Saturday, and people are pointing at other sporting events being distractions - but those things are consistent year to year. There's always going to be a Kentucky Derby and the NBA playoffs right around this time, there's always some other huge distraction or another that previous box-office champions have had to go up against.

So with a slower start and less positive word of mouth - how much does this thing drop next weekend?

Yeah maybe they shouldve released it a week earlier domestically like they did for the rest of the world. I still dont get why they make the U.S. wait

Nice debut for Marvel. Looking forward to seeing how Max, Jurassic, and Ant-man perform.

So you're leaning in a more conservative direction. Playing it safe. I like it.

To be fair, I can still see the scenario where the mass refunds lead to the crashing of the world economy, the start of World War 3 and the end of human civilization as we know it but I don't think we'll see a disaster that big until Batman v Superman.

Well everyone wanted X-Men and Fantastic Four back with the rest of the Marvel IPs, so I bet people will be elated at Fox acquiring The Avengers.

I would actually like to see a Singerifyed Avengers. Would probably have Deathcry, USAgent, The Forgotten One, and Dr.Druid as a lineup.

F7 did everything right, and everything lined up perfectly for it. Lightning in a bottle right there. I can't see F8 pulling off the same feat.

There is not a chance in hell F8 does as much as F7. I think it could be a better movie, easily, though. This one definitely felt a little strange at parts (not even talking about the near fourth wall breaking ending) presumably because of Walker's death and the re-writes that caused. Also, give me wayyyyy more of The Rock.

Pretty sure these movies are going to primarily be Diesel/Rock centric going forward.

GOTG beats expectation, Avengers 2 under expectation. Disney execs must be scratching their heads now.

Solution; Infinity War to have opening dance move.

Seems like the most obvious way to go. No one else in the extended cast could step up to the co-headlining role nearly as well. So, it's that or bring in a brand new actor, which could be awkward and certainly would be risky. F8 focusing on Diesel and Johnson with Snake Plisskin as their boss kind of writes itself.

Yep, Diesel has gone on record saying that Kurt Russell's character will have a much bigger role in F8 after all.
