I don´t like what they have done with the movie, but i am glad it is doing well, because i love the Turtles. Haters to the left.

Between Guardians, Maleficent, Lucy, and Turtles, Box Office GAF ate a lot crow this summer.

Yes, and it´s great. Healthy box office means more will take risks with movie, even big budget movies.

HTTYD 2 continues to extend its lead over its predecessor worldwide. While it hasn't surpassed HTTYD 1's lifetime worldwide grosses yet, that should happen next week.

HTTYD 2, thanks to its legs overseas, has now surpassed the original Shrek's unadjusted worldwide grosses. Dreamworks views the $500 million gross mark as a barometer of success so I'm smiling all around at HTTYD 2's performance.

Now onto that $550 million mark!

However, Planes 2 has incredibly disappointing legs. Its predecessor is extending its lead both domestically and internationally, leaving for some difficult week-over-week comps.

Yeah I know that Planes 2 is a glorified toy commercial, but the box office contraction might be just a tad worrying for Disney.

I really hope the movie gets a second wind.

Between Guardians, Maleficent, Lucy, and Turtles, Box Office GAF ate a lot crow this summer.

One of the best parts about all this. Some people wanting films to purposefully 'bomb' rather than it just not find an audience is disgusting, if you don't like a film don't go and see it.

I'm not going to begrudge people that go and see films I don't want to see.

I'm glad Into the Storm is not doing great.

I couldn't roll my eyes enough watching a preview for that.

Agreed it looked utterly unremarkable and very meh. And it looks like they gave away one of the main bit pieces in the trailer again. Why do they do that with trailers!

How is Guardians doing overseas? Is it doing relatively well is it still to open in some places? Obviously doing very well in america

How does the bolding work?
The highest gross for that day across all of the movies is the one that's bolded.

Yes, but I had to screenshot different pages to include all movies, so there's multiple bolding.

Is Hercules a bomb yet?
Hercules

Budget: $100 million according to boxofficemojo.com
Budget+Marketing: $140 million according to boxoffice.com

Current worldwide gross: $136 million

There are some international markets where it hasn't opened yet, so it might crawl all the way to $200 million. Not a bomba, but it won't make much or any money either.

I haven't seen separate markets numbers for this weekend yet, but it was doing a little below CATWS (which was below TTDW, not including China).

I dunno most of the bomba posts said it'd be shit as well so they were half right at least. Not sure how much crow you could get out of it.

There weren't even that many people saying it would flop. They simply didn't guess it would make 65 mil. That's probably why there's no crow thread - most people figured it'd make low 40 mil. Which wouldn't have been a bad opening at all, honestly.

Bad Word of Mouth may hurt it in the long-run, but TMNT is looking like it'll do well at least.

$65M in summer more or less guarantees a $150M domestic finish at a minimum. It could have Ang Lee Hulk legs and finish a little below that, but given the budget and the early overseas earnings, Turtles is gong to be plenty profitable even if it lacks legs.

No reviews for the Giver and Let's Be Cops 3-5 days from release. The Expendables is sitting at 31% with a 5.2 average. Looks like we are in for another weekend of quality new releases next week.

It'll probably fall off a cliff next weekend.

I wouldn't be too sure, theres really not much else coming for the rest of August, although Expendables 3 may take a bit of the male audience I doubt it will be big enough to cause a massive effect

8-10-14 = Weekend of August 10th, 2014

4,088 = Number of domestic theaters playing the film

Thanks. It is now my duty to pass this knowledge to others who I'm sure like me come and ask the same questions week after week. :p

Nah, last year and 2009 sucked for summer films.

This year, no bombas, memorable movies, felt this summer was cool.

And now with a TMNT2 greenlit, they can fix the script and just have a straight up Turtles film and not Secret of Ooze 2016.

Disney and Paramount came out on top despite Planes and Hercules not doing as good as they thought.

Besides Inglorious Basterds...I agree 2009 was a stinker for summer flicks.

I can't even think of any movies at the top of my head that went against the godtier 2008 lineup.

What a weird summer. Nobody has any legs. August is the most exciting month, not the preceding 3. Both Guardians and Turtles broke their projections pretty significantly.

I don't know if it's just a blip or part of the transition to coming years where the idea of seasons for specific types (and sizes) of movies slowly goes away.

It seems like the business model is changing. Obviously worldwide numbers are much more important than they were in the past, but it almost feels like the studios are content with frontloading the shit out of movies and not really giving them room to breath. With the schedules WB and Marvel are pushing for just comic book movies alone, it doesn't seem like this will change. I wonder if this will be the new model and we will start to see movies hit digital and BluRay home release sooner and sooner.

You might be onto something there. The Amazing Spider-Man 2 is out next week on Blu-ray, which is crazy for a May film of that size. Despite coming out a month earlier, Captain America: The Winter Soldier isn't out until September 9.

Do we know what's between BvS and Cap 3 in 2016? Or is WB gonna have a clear path until the summer season starts?

2016 is too far away to have a concrete schedule outside of some tentpole films.

Beverley Hills Cop 4 is scheduled for Scheduled for the same weekend as Batman vs Superman, but I assume that is going to move. A sequel to Snow White and the Huntsman is scheduled for the weekend before Cap 3. Other than that, not much yet.
