Would you ever consider abandoning consoles entirely for PC in the future?

Never. PC gaming is a fucking minefield of tinkering and fucking around. I love the simplicity of consoles. Plug and play.

I already have. I gotta have my Ultra Settings and minimum 60 fps frame rate. I've just added a 1TB 960 EVO NVME SSD for fast load times and plan to get the 1080 Ti as soon as a Classified card is available. I realize that their are console exclusives I miss out on, but I have over a 100 steam games from sales that I don't have the time to play anyways.

The seal was set when I built my first computer in 2011. I fired up WOW at max settings and high framerates and there was no going back. It doesn't help that current consoles can barely do 60fps at 1080p and the so called 4k consoles should be focusing on ultra 1080p at 60fps, instead of 4k 30fps.

Nah. As I get older, I can see myself becoming more casual and just getting a single console as opposed to multiple like right now as I get less and less free time. Investment into a PC wouldn't be worth it.

This is sorta me. I love PC gaming and have a very nice setup but hardly ever use it compared to years ago. I'll play a couple rounds of Overwatch or a game of DOTA here and there but that is about it. I spend more time here talking about games rather than playing them lol.

Well considering consoles have slowly relinquished any kind of advantage over PC, my PS4 is strictly for exclusives. PC for everything else.

Let's go down the list, shall we?

  • Local multiplayer is dead.
  • You have to pay for online play.
  • Day one patches on every physical game. (which take forever on Microsoft and Sony's shitty servers)
  • Hard drive sizes don't change yet every game has a 30+ gig mandatory install. I love constantly deleting shit to make room.
  • Generations are dead. Instead of buying one console every 6+ years, that is now cut in half. To me, this is the nail in the coffin. This makes developing for consoles even more expensive in dollars and time, while also splitting the consumer base. Early adopters are left feeling obligated to pony up or feel like they aren't getting the full experience. I've seen a lot of people cite this as the reason for jumping to PC.

I've played primarily on consoles my whole life, but I've always had a shitty PC in the background. The way consoles have been heading, trying to emulate PC yet failing in every regard, has really soured me. Luckily I've been able to afford building a nice PC, and right on time.

I still love my PS4. I think Sony is doing a lot of things right (except you still can't change your PSN name!?) and their exclusives are top notch. But those exclusives are so few and far between. I currently use my PS4 as a BluRay/YouTube/Streaming device. Sad.

EDIT: All that being said, I'll probably never be PC exclusive, but I'm really surprised at some of these posts.

I still like the rare first party output from Sony and Nintendo so I'll keep my consoles.

I also like the first party content from Microsoft but now it's on my PC so woo

You mean plug and install and download patches and restart downloads and then install again and pay for multiplayer and play?

No, I think playing hunched over a monitor with a mouse and keyboard for long periods of time is uncomfortable. I used to have a desk job so coming home to stare at a computer screen was the last thing I wanted to do in my free time. Also I'm not into upgrading every year or two just so I can enjoy the latest games at their best. Not hating on PC gamers or anything like that, I just find relaxing on the couch or upstairs in my room with a controller in hand to be the most comfortable way to play.

And no, I don't want to pay extra for steam link or run cables to hook up my PC to the TVs in my home. Consoles are plug in and play, no hassle involved.

I like games too much to limit myself with PC. Missing Bloodborne or missing playing with friends over Xbox Live would make me sad.

That said I primarily play PC games.

I've never seen this as a one or the other choice.

If a console offers no games I care about, I don't buy it. (Like say... The WiiU.) If it does, I'll probably buy one.

If there is a PC version of a game that's just better, I'll go with that. If it's a multiplayer game with a better base on consoles, I'll probably opt for that one.

I considered it at the start of the current generation (after owning a P3, 360 and a Wii), but ultimately ended up buying a Wii U for the exclusive local coop games.

So, whether I fully abandon consoles really depends on how many great exclusive local coop games Nintendo releases for Switch.

Not really. They serve different purposes...currently.

This is my mindset. I do prefer PC overall, but I've had strange headaches setting up local multiplayer games on PC that I just never do on consoles, so for the time being I find my self preferring consoles for local multiplayer games in general. However, as consoles become more and more like PC'S and their failure rates keep increasing while build quality keeps decreasing, I could very much see myself becoming a PC/Nintendo only gamer in the future.

Doing just that so far. First-party games have never been "must-haves" for me (more like, "nice to have since I'm already here") & the other benefits of consoles over PCs are ever-dwindling imo.

PS4's very slowly building a list of 3rd party exclusives (I'm gradually losing hope in KOF XIV on PC), so that will probably change at some point.

Never, it's always been the option id completely disqualify. I do not find PC gaming anywhere near as convenient as console gaming nor do I think Devs pay as much attention to the platform, it's mostly been console first PC second.

No chance, the older I get the more I value simplicity and convenience.

And honestly, if you use a high-powered PC just to create a quasi-console environment... that's a crying shame because you are leaving so much utility on the table its bordering on criminal neglect!

Not a whole lot of interest in consoles outside of some exclusive games. So yeah if there was no exclusives I probably would never touch a console again but I don't see that happening in the foreseeable future.

As little use as it gets at time, I still love having my console. I play a whole load more on PC but at the end of the night I prefer to settle in with a game on the PS4 usually. I've ways to stream my PC etc or even just run a cable and do from time to time, but they just serve ever so slightly different uses to me. It's pretty unlikely for me to double dip on stuff though, I just buy different types of games on PC versus console for some strange reason.

It would only happen if I went back to playing WoW. Otherwise, no. Always gotta see what Nintendo is doing and also what the next Halo will be like.

Ever since charging for playing online got popular it feels like the only logical choice. I can't imagine staying with xOne or PS4 in the current environment.

Nah, need my handhelds. Granted there doesn't seem to be a next gen handheld on the horizon that isn't a tablet.

Home consoles? If they didn't have a few good exclusives, yeah at this point they'd be gone. Consoles used to have a decent amount of good points vs PC, a lot of that has evaporated this gen.

Despite the existence of Bloodborne and Demon's Souls, I haven't missed much since losing a 360 back in '08. It's easier than you all think, believe me! There's a million frigging games to play and not enough time.

Funny, because Digital Foundrys fulltime job now seems to be patch note analysis on whats broken in this weeks PS4Pro patch

Yeah. There are a lot of advantages that consoles used to have that have just been disappearing. It's slightly simpler, yeah, but it has its own headaches now.

No. But anything's possible and it'd depend on a few things. Cost of entry would have to be a lot lower for me than it currently is, and Sony would have to put its exclusives on PC. All the Japanese games I'm into that still don't come to PC would also have to be there.

Gave my only remaining console (PS4 I only had for bloodborne and destiny) away for Christmas. I don't have the time to play all the PC games I have so it's not hard to ignore the occasional console exclusive and paying for online access. I use that money to maximize the quality of the experiences I do have time for.

Funny. I'm currently waiting on my Diablo 3 update to download before I launch the game so I can see if the Pro version is worth it or if I should stick to the original.

PC version however, is ready to go.

The concepts of convenient console games and overcomplicated PC games are old notions.

my dude

You have a PSO avatar. For the most part, PC gaming is only a minefield if you're trying to do very specialized things that can only be done on PC, like play the most comprehensive version of classic PSO online in 2017.

GENERALLY, if you just want to play modern games using nice, high-end hardware, PC use is pretty easy. Not console easy, but easy enough to be worth it for most enthusiasts.

So true.

Yeah, was about to say this. Great times inserting a disc and having to download a 9 GB patch before I can start playing my PS4 game.

My nephew got a PS4 for Christmas and luckily I had the foresight to crack that box open, install all the games, download all the updates, and pack it up the night before so the kid doesn't have to be disappointed that he cannot use his gift on Christmas morning.

It's par for the course and the hoops are worth the benefits gained from them, but the idea of vast convenience in the console space is nowhere near as accurate as it was 10 years ago.

I more or less have. I bought a PS4 in February 2015 but have thus far finished just Ratchet & Clank and Uncharted 4, and have played only ~an hour of 3D World on the Wii U that I bought about six months later, in August.

Only way this would happen is if every console game also released on PC. This will never happen to Nintendo titles, so... No.

I reached a point now where I have bought hundreds of games on PC. They'll last a lifetime. Bought even more during Steam Winter Sale. Shouldnt have but most were games I had targeted the last few years, like Shovel Knight.
Have both desktop and laptop that I use for gaming. I take the laptop when I am away. On laptop I play either lighter games or use low setting. I even have a Dreamcast to play some classic games like Gigawing 2, SF2T and VF3tb.

A console would be only worth if I wanted to play 10 big budget titles a year but I am not that type of player. Prefer to play a bit from that game, a bit from another etc PC is the best and most responsive platform for this.

If I hadnt a good laptop, I'd seriously consider getting a portable. A NintendoDS provided endless hours of fun with the few games I bought few years ago, prior to getting a laptop. So a Switch might be a good solution. Though there I'd need to carefully consider what I'd buy, since games are more expensive. But now it is difficult to go back to consoles.

So no... :c
But I still play fps on my pc, is it just better

It was the first 15 minutes that made the first game stand out anyway.

I almost certainly would if Nintendo became the defacto platform for Japanese 3rd party developers again. Either that or Japanese 3rd party developers embraced Steam even more.

Neither are incredibly likely to happen, so I will continue to buy Sony's consoles in the meantime.

I grew up on consoles but this generation I've mainly transitioned to PC. I think the reason for this is that its been really easy to find good deals on PC games and there are barely any 3rd party games that aren't on PC anymore. I still have consoles for the exclusives though.

Only if their catalogs were all available on PC. Xbox doing that will probably keep me from buying one of their consoles again.
