WoW Cataclysm Expansion speculation

The uncovered world maps are pretty convincing evidence, I must say :D

If the Barrens is underwater then -- no more Barrens chat? I loved baiting the people there.

I must say it's been a long time coming. I remember the days of playing WSG in the level 30s when Battlegrounds first hit, and having to walk from Camp T to the northern tip of Barrens - not exciting.

Every expansion so far has had a lot of features that are available to "old world" users. It's only the actually new zones and level cap that having the expansion gave you. In fact, they tend to be reeleased a month or so before the expansion as the X.0.0 patch.. a 3.0.0 player with just the original game still has 51 point talents in their trees (and can just barely get one).

In fact, although Jewelcrafting was BC-only (the only trainers are in BC cities) Inscription is available to everyone.

And you know, hopefully this Cataclysm convinces the other alliance cities to get damn jewelcrafting trainers. It's such a pain going all the way back to Exodar to level up Jewelcrafting while leveling.

But I mean why would a new player buy the other expansions?

Because each expansion only works if the other is installed previously and tied to your account.

Each one also has an additional piece of gold to lure new customers. BC = Blood Elves & Draenei, WotLK = Death Knights, Cataclysm = supposedly Goblins & Worgen.

If this all turns out to be true I want to know how the hell they're going to to introduce so much old world content while still requiring you to buy the expansion. As someone said earlier this sounds more like WoW2 than an actual expansion.

What are they going to do? Patch all the new-old continent stuff in than force you to buy an expansion which only allows you to play as two new races with an increased level cap of 85? I'm sure you could instance the entire world of Azeroth but that just seems like an incredibly bad idea.

You guys really don't know how expansions work? Even if you have the files on your system, it's as simple as restricting your account from accessing certain parts of the world. There *are* going to be completely new zones in addition to the reworked old ones. Don't count out rumors of water vehicles and combat, either, or the numerous other things we haven't heard a lick about yet.

If I was a player, I'd sure like to be able to see that stuff. To say the expansion "only" offers a couple of new races and some extra experience to earn is seriously underplaying things.

Since i can't make my own thread yet i'll ask in here.

Can someone please send me a scroll of resurrection. I wanna start playing again but I don't feel like waiting till tomorrow when I get a game card. That's a free month of wow, first person to respond wins.

Players asked for years for side-content that was not for max level.
Well you're getting it and now people still complain. :lol

Ahh yes, the infalliable player-base. XD

What I'm saying is people will go "wooooooooooooooh, new stuff, even for level 1! I'm starting all over again, I'm back into WoW!". Then "I hit 60, ah shit! BC all over again here I go. Ok, I hit 70! Ah shit, WotLK again!".

I don't see Blizzard requiring people to buy the other two expansions, other than if you want the races from BC or the blood knight, etc. but who knows.

What would be the point of making it a low-level zone when you're already far past the need to level in it?

New comers. Basically they could flat out reboot every fucking thing involving the leveling experience from 1 to max level if they decided to spend the money, and god knows they can afford it.

They may just completely scrap the old stuff and make a way for existing characters to transition. It would be unheard of, would actually add massive replay value for the 4+ year vets and if they pulled it off successfully, would surely be copied by other games down the line in the genre.

But what were talking about here sounds like a complete overhaul of vanilla WoW. How does Blizzard plan on restricting that much content and still have a smooth leveling experience, and if there are no restrictions besides the inevitable two new cities and races what motivates me to buy their expansion?

We did it the same thing with BC when Wrath came out. Especially those that started out new Death Knight characters. They had to slog through Outland before getting to Northrend. It's an annoyance, but who cares? People did it anyway. I don't see why they wouldn't expect them to go through it again. They could make leveling even faster, I don't know, but they aren't going to shitcan all of that content just because you're lazy.

The 80-85 content?

What we're talking about is only what we know. We know those races will be restricted, but there will be a lot of other things that we haven't even heard about that non-expansion players won't be able to access.

Being at the level cap usually affords you content that nobody else can access. This comes in the form of dungeon content, raid content, gear, and high-level questlines. This is the bread and butter of the game, and if you can't get past Level 80, you won't be able to see *any* of it. You might be able to look at it from afar, admire other people walking around in Tier 11/12/13 gear, but you won't be able to do or wear any of this stuff yourself.

If you choose not to upgrade, you might be still be able to engage with a lot of the revamped 1-60 content, but not anything above level 80 (and from what I can tell, even a good deal of the "old" content that was formerly within that pre-60 level band will now only be for players at or near the level cap).

Oh yes, I know. He was implying that you would have to be Level 80+ to see the "new" Azeroth, which would really defeat the purpose of turning a place like Azshara into a 10-20 zone, if you had already leveled far past it.

eep, I misunderstood. Sorry.

I was just thinking of getting back into it. I don't like raiding at all but i really enjoy starting out from level 1 and working my way through.

If these changes are true my friends and i will definitely get back in for a while.

On a side note this fits in my book. Myself and other friends all agree that when stuff of the next expansion leaks, it's NEVER lore. No lore from BC or WotLK ever leaked before Blizz published them - let alone massive plot-twists and serious changes...

The only thing ever leaked was the basics: New races, New professons, new land, new class, ect...

So the goblin/worgen thing we could buy, even along with the actual cataclysm and phased old azarothian events. A whole detailed well-writen synopsis for Garrosh assasinating Carnine and massive details about the Goblin defection to the horde are just waaaaay too much detail to be believed.

Never ever any lore - let alone lore to this detailed degree.
Risehorde.jpg

A novel that came out before Burning Crusade was released; not only did it detail Draenor before it became "Outland", but it also talked about the Draenei's flight from the planet. Tons of lore surrounding Nagrand was also in this book.

So it was all BS. I'll be interested in seeing what actually comes out of Blizzcon, then.
I wouldn't go so far as to say that. There are definite murmurings of things in official Blizzard products that are probably 100% confirmed. And it wouldn't surprise me if some things were an intentional leak - why are MMO-Champion putting a "watch Blizzcon!" advertisement on their post? Aion is incoming (whether it makes a dent or not is better saved for shittier threads) and what better marketing scheme to whip some fervor into past & present gamers of WoW by releasing details of an expansion before a major corporation event.. only to be able to stream the entire Blizzcon event so people can see it all unfold.

Ultimately the only thing us lore geeks and fellow PVE/PVP fanatics can do is wait for Blizzcon to arrive.

Holy shit:lol

Blizzcon will have a live stream going
And all for the low low price of.....39.99. You'll get 18hours+ of footage.

Also the only mortal to ever challenge the Lich King for the Prince of Darkness title will be there live in concert.

I don't know if I should be crying or laughing.

Tempting, but I'm really not going to lvl another character just to experience some rehashed content. 5 new lvls? Judging by my previous add-on experience, it seems like I'll be done leveling in 1,5 week.

If they really do reboot 1-60 content... i may just resub, Wotlk was nice and all, but i got bored pretty quickly at 80 and my old guild had collapsed so i had to start the raiding/heroics thing all over again.

Maybe playing the rebooted content with others will make me feel like when i first played WoW...

Just when I thought I was out, they pull me back in. :lol

I bought WotLK and played it for a little bit, but I quit before long. I got to like level 74 and was still working on quests from the starting areas and wasn't too into the other areas I could access. It didn't really feel right; I thought that BC was a much better expansion.

But reworking all of Azeroth and giving me playable Goblins? Fuck.

Must. Come. Back.

i bet there will be people that stream the stream for free so dont worry that you miss the announcement :D

Hopefully they will announce it before blizzcon.

Didn't they announce BC/Lich alittle before blizzcon hit?
1-2 days before blizzcon a webadmin was stupid and the exp website of wrath was online for like 5 min and someone found it and posted screens of it so at that point everything was confirmed :lol

What's funny about it? I couldn't stand lvling in WotLK no matter how fast they made it. And 5 new levels is still 5 new levels in an world that's not even new.

Vied for a tag related to cocks, so here it is.
5 levels would definitely bring me back no matter what. That was the worst thing when WotLK came out, i had to do 10 more frikkin levels.

There are zones in Azeroth we've never even been to.

So if im understanding correctly, Cataclysm Azeroth is something that is unlocked at higher level.. they are phased zones for high-level, end-game content. So the vanilla Azeroth is still there for when you level 1-60? i know this is all speculation and there hasnt been an official announcement but do i have this right?

i would probably come back for a month or two just to see the new stuff.. like how i did with WotLK. And as much as i would love to roll a Troll Druid.. i dont know if i can do the leveling thing again. ive done too many im so freaking burned out on leveling.. esp when the old world was pretty much dead lvl 25-55.

It's not phasing. The whole Azeroth will be changed for levels 1-85.

So this was all a trolling hoax perpetuated by members of SA and a WoW guild called Goon Squad?

I'm really having trouble understanding the thread about it at the WoW forums. My IQ typically drops 30-40 points when I visit them.

WOTLK was a huge step up in terms of leveling for me. IT was more interesting, the zones were awesome, and if you actually go back and read quests, the lore is pretty good also.

That being said, the world, if what has been leaked is true, won't be the same. It will be very much different. It will be destroyed, and overhauled.

This is what I have wanted for quite some time now. It's going to put a fresh perspective on the game, on the conflict, and the story. The story and game seems to be taking a bigger leap forward with this one expansion then it has in the almost five years the game has been out.

Plus, I think it will be awesome for the veteran players to be able to see every tiny detial that was changed in the old-world. And the Event that will happen before the expansion comes out will probably be insane.
