I haven't watched wrestling live outside of PPVs in probably a decade, how do people do this live? This is brutal with the ads constantly. Decided to grab a month of Netflix (Cause I was expecting a PPV level Raw tonight) and I can easily see myself returning to the high seas for my future wrestling watching after the fact so I can skip all this filler commercial crap.

Easy, the same way I’ve been watching Raw with my TiVo before this. Start at 8:30 to 8:45 and just fast forward through the commercials. (Each hour is 45 minutes of show and 15 minutes of commercials). If you do that you’ll finish the show right as it’s ending.

The show has been "meh" so far.

Hogan getting booed was funny as shit tho and embarrassing at the same time. lol

The actual streaming of live was fantastic with no hiccups. The matches were decent but the mid match ads are egregious

I hope they get called out for them as they aren’t needed. Do your fucking ads between matches when you have setup. No excuse here.

I'm going to give week 1 a pass. It wasn't a great show outside of the main event for me, but this was what it had to be....a giant wankfest for Netflix and celebrities. May take a little time for H to get back into the 3 hour loop and we'll for sure get better then 4 matches. This really almost felt like a Vince era raw with too many nonsense segments and ad breaks at awful times. I think whatever the hell this transfer portal thing may be an issue with current storylines kind of stalling out while dudes are switching brands. This felt like their overseas ppv house shows, completely safe, nothing interesting. I saw a comment on reddit that stuck with me that this was the episode for fireworks and surprises but instead they just played it safe with a B level show.

So wait, nobody is going to mention it's Titty Time?

BTW Damn is Bianca strong as hell.

Corrected that for you :messenger_winking:

more serious, well deserved, Tiffany is the future

Also Raw sucked big time.

Rock just threw everything built upon the last year to the garbage by being dwayne and not the final boss character. Liv should have retained , rollins should have win against punk.

Cena is probably winning the rumble and main event Mania night 2 against cody for no reason at all

Also no returns tonight at all , where is alexa , becky , charlotte?

I haven't watched yet, but Dwayne will do anything in his power to promote Dwayne - especially after his fall from grace I can see him wanting to babyface himself. Him buying more shares in TKO and being on the board is not beneficial to anyone but Dwayne and I can only see it hurting the product. Even if his intro does get a pop.

Was Hulk getting boo’d personally or for the fluff about Netflix being a great tag team partner. Honestly have no clue.

Overall a pretty good week. I thought last night was very well done. Great show that left the audience ready for what happens next.

I knew to expect ads, but yeah I can't understand the need to have them mid-match.

Overall, not that strong of a show when you take into account the incessant Netflix glazing. If I had contributed money towards the "record gate" Dwayne mentioned, I might feel a little cheated.

This stood out and was pretty disappointing since Rock was actually working well as a heel. Guess we're already back to Vanilla Dwayne?

Cody also looks like a chump for yucking it up with Dwayne as he makes "Mamma Rhodes" jokes.

Cody, did you forget that not even a year ago he beat you senseless, whipped you with a belt, and left you for dead in a parking lot???

There were a lot of audio hicups, I’m already a Netflix member. The ads are lengthy but that’s where fast forwarding comes into play, so you can skip those. Roman had a good moment, seeing the stars gather in the crowd was a moment, and than of course the title changes.

Not sure if anyone cares about this since it's AEW and NJPW, but something slipping under the radar is that AEW reached a new low over the weekend in their relationship with New Japan at the joint Wrestle Dynasty show in Tokyo.

During the Kidd vs Omega match (where the story was very much AEW vs NJPW), NJPW english commentator Chris Charlton said such dastardly things as:

- Tony Khan is a money mark (which is obviously true)
- Okada is being wasted in AEW (also true)
- The Continental classic doesn't compare to the G1 (true again)

These hard truths were enough to send AEW, the slob fans of AEW, and/or Tony himself into such a hissy fit that Chris Charlton was suspended immediately after the show finished.

Chris seems to be a hardworking guy who does basically all translation work for NJPW (live during the show, backstage promos, website stuff, etc.) and also happens to be essentially a Japanese wrestling historian. Now he's suspended and potentially missing paychecks because a billionaire had his feelings hurt.

Have you watched Wrestle Kingdom and/or Wrestle Dynasty? If so how were they? I've not had a chance to watch them yet.

There isn't really a whole lot I can recommend. One of the only matches that had any actual heat going was Desperado vs Douki and Douki broke his arm 5 minutes in so they had to stop. Can't really recommend the 45 minute ZSJ main event unless you reeeeally like ZSJ.

Maybe just check Shingo/Takeshita and Kidd/Omega.

From the bits I had heard it sounded like Shota Umino wasn't really able to deliver at that Wrestle Kingdom main event level. That's a pity since New Japan really needs the guys from that generation to step up to that top tier now that Tanahashi is retiring, Okada is in another company and Naito is a physical wreck. Shingo/Takeshita does sound like a great combination and I've heard really good things about Kidd/Omega so I'll check those out.

In the past, New Japan had been really good at turning an unwanted or unforseen crowd reaction into a storyline that could draw. The initial fan rejection of Naito, leading to his transformation into 'the ungovernable one' is a perfect example.

We'll soon find out if they still have that magic touch with Shota.

Yeh Naito's fall and rise is one of my favourite storylines in wrestling. In part that's because it developed naturally. At some point they just need to throw guys like Shota in at the deep end and see if they swim or not. As Naito showed it doesn't have to be the end of the world if it goes badly for you.

The same audience went nuts for the Undertaker a few minutes prior, who had Trump on his podcast

It had nothing to do with politics

Yeah he got booed back at WM 37 in Florida as well. Unfortunately for Hulk, that's probably how it's going to be for him for a while.

Id play the heel card with him as a dark Hollywood Hogan in a onscreen administrative role...
To do what though? It's not like he's gonna be able to take a bump when the babyfaces get the upper hand on him. Austin/McMahon worked because you could pay off Vince being a bastard by having Austin kick his ass every now and then. Heel Hogan would just be heat for heat's sake. And the reaction he got was more of a go away heat than something you can work with. Also, Hogan has a tendency to hog the spotlight and so again if you can't build to a match he's in or some other repurcussion then he's just detracting from the show overall. I feel like the heel authority figure thing is so played out at this point too.

You said as an onscreen administrative role, so like a GM right? Heel GMs that never get their comeuppance, which would be Hogan since he can’t take a bump, suck the energy out of a show. Hogan being Hogan would make himself the centre of attention of anything he was in, so that would make it even worse. We saw this with him in TNA about 15 years ago and it was bad then.

Although, there’s an argument to be made for having him clown Shawn Michaels again…

He wouldn't have to take a bump.

He has heat and heat is money.

not tag worthy

Rick flair I mean Jericho getting that legends treatment velvet pillow etc. yeah I ain’t never took a bump in my life so I can talk. But maybe he should try and just do commentary. Or maybe this is leading up to a new meta character where he gets special treatment etc. let’s see. Or maybe it’s time to stop.

I reckon Flair could outwork him at this point despite being 75 vs Jericho's 54

I hate Jericho on commentary too, however I do think he could transition like Harley Race to being a manager that COULD hypeman somebody who needs a mouthpiece and vet in their corner. I just don't think Jericho doesn't just have a giant ego and thinks he's above that. This dude really believes he's helping people get over with this whole schtick he does in AEW.

Whatever happens with talent, they absolutely must ask the diabetic neckbeards sitting in the front row of all their shows to stop leaning on the rail and just sit in their seats.

Nothing screams "Indie bingo hall" quite like having 20 out of breath slobs using their full collective body weight to test the durability of the guard rail and block the view of people behind them.

It all looks like this to me. It's either slow motion rehearsal or fast clearly practiced spots. None of it looks like wrestling to me.
