Wuchang: Fallen Feathers |OT| Saving dat pirate booty

Lol they could've made status effects a bit more clear, I just stood in fire apparently without any reaction looking around to find a path, and then I instantly died because fire status was apparently building up lol.

Is there no indicator at all?

That's a very good tv set. Mine is also LG, but it is 65 inch 4KUHD. I ask this because, Im thinking if I were going to purchase this game, will it be on my base ps5 or my pc.

Yeah I'm not sure how it looks on a base PS5. You'd probably need to run it on balanced or performance mode on base PS5 to get a higher frame rate so that could be a bit of step down in image quality from the Pro running it in quality mode. If your PC is a lot more powerful than your PC then that's probably the better option but the PC version has technical difficulties too. Maybe you could try it on PC gamepass to see if it runs well?

Played for about 2.5 hours. I really like it so far. It feels like stubby like in DS1, but a sense of flow attached to it. it's different but I dig it so far. Couldn't beat the tutorial boss yet, still figuring things out. This is a game that truly focuses on offense and dodging. You can block only using Axes or big Hammers.

It's not very good visually on the PS5 Pro so far. Lies of P and Lords of the Fallen look better. On quality mode it's got a number of poor-quality textures and the image quality is muddy and grainy because it must be using heavy upscaling from a pretty low internal resolution. Some of the textures are almost like Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth levels of bad such as some of the wood panelling on the temples where a lot of the quest-giving NPCs are found. Lords of the Fallen is able to run lumen and nanite at decent image quality on the Pro so I don't know what's going on here (assuming it's using nanite and lumen).

It also sometimes stutters even when not much is happening around you. And most of the time there's no haptics when you hit enemies which I don't like. The sound effects are good when you hit enemies, but it's not accompanied by haptic feedback so if feels lacking. The haptics feel bugged but maybe this is how it's coded - they need to fix or change this in the future. It's pretty fun so far though, but I have a feeling this is going to be continually patched for the next 6-12 months and will be significantly improved like Lords of the Fallen was.
Thanks for the impressions

I'm about 5 shrines in, the game is pretty okay so far. Not blowing my mind at all, but it's okay.

- Game is crazy frontloaded with mechanics and it's pretty overwhelming
- The skill tree / level system irks me, feels counterintuitive and it's missing the dopamine hit from the Souls games where they literally show your stat increase
- The combat feels okay. The longsword doesn't have enough "punch", there's something about the hit registration animations and audio that doesn't feel meaty enough
- Having block or parry as a skill tree unlock and special move weapon slot is just weird

Played 30 min. Seems super mid. Funny that a low budget souls clone still looks more modern than a lot of Japanese games these days and this is not $70 either.

Fatigue is super limited. No block. Enemies aren't reliably hit stunned. It just seems like another slow souls grind.

I'll give it a bit more time but this seems like a barely passable 7/10. Better than Mortal Shell but worse than Lies of P.

A couple hours in and it feels like a game you have to give it a bit of time to get going and understand. I think I'm enjoying it. Enemy jump backs are quite annoying.

That said the longsword is the only weapon that felt good to me initially. I'll give axe and spear another shot now that I have a better understanding on mechanics but the 1h sword felt way too flashy and prone to taking damage for my tastes. Haven't found dual blades and didn't want to buy them from the merchant so I dunno about them yet.

The dudes in the pots can fuck off with their no selling of every attack and super juicy combo.

Edit: On PC. Performance is fine for the most part but there are some rather nasty framedrops on occasion. Doesn't bother me that much but still...

their thoughts
"fatigue is super limited, no block" aren't "thoughts", just straight up false information, and even though you know "30 mins is just 30 mins", you could've just kept playing and see how it opens up 🤷‍♂️
Souls fans are so damn sensitive.
Lol miss me with this bs deflection, I'm not even a "souls" fan 🤣, don't get upset when simply get called out for posting nonsense.

There is no block 30 min in. Nothing is a lie. I'm done posting my thoughts about it here. Thread's all yours.

Gotta play the game to unlock skills. Game is fine. Character gets stronger as you acquire more tools.

I like this kind of style of progression as opposed to typical Souls stat dumps with meager effects.

Just with the starting weapon you can look up it's basic weapon combo and combine it with your Skyborn might skills for combo finishers or setting up more combos.

Game is definitely more dodge oriented. And plays more like a fighting game then your typical Souls or Elder Scrolls combat system.

I feel like it does the "dark souls 1" thing really well so far; very interconnected, very little guidance by many paths to take.
I'd say so far it misses on the actual encounter design, too much reliance on "traps" to get the player, like enemies hiding around corners or above you, or even busting through walls that have no indication that something could bust through; like a horror movie with too many jumpscares.

I do like the madness mechanic though, with a lot of similar systems you'd kinda want to play it safer maybe, but here the madness benefits are pretty dope; also didn't realise it actually does deplete if when you max it out, just start killing enough feathered and it will go back down at some point.
One handed sword seems kinda OP so far.

Second year of a chinese game built on UE5, that has some bad textures in many spots. Also, why not use PSSR? Sometimes stuff can look a bit pixelated from a distance.

Only tried the tutorial area, ginishing donkey kong first, but the game seems fun, and the main character is super hot.

Wish the game had a demo. Performance reports have me worried but those last few posts make the game seem really fun.

Alright I'm back lol. Last post just for R Reizo Ryuu . Playtime is now 1 hr and 52 min. Other than some of the environments looking pretty nice, game sucks ass so far. I can't believe anyone is cool with this frog lady in a pot that kills you with 3 quick slaps to the knees. Its just such terrible combat. The spear L1 charge running stab doesn't even stun people so you are just locked in this animation for 5 seconds while they just hit you. Your R2 charge attacks are so insanely slow and overly animated. As I said, it is better than Mortal Shell so if you can somehow tolerate that game then this is for you.

Deleted. I'll watch a YouTube montage with whatever the coolest bosses are.

P.S. block with just the axe, tried it and it sucks.

It's amazing how quick you gave up but completely loved Slitterhead.

Slitterhead is good 🤷‍♂️. Within minute 1 of Slitterhead you're doing cool shit not seen in most games. Chase scenes between multiple bodies is fast, responsive and intuitive.

If you guys like this thats fine. I do not. Sincerely I think the fundamentals of combat are very poor in this game and you can tell pretty quickly. Its definitely not the worst thing I've ever played. But I also happen to be very sick of souls games and have lots of other better things to play.

Game just wasn't for you then. You went in looking for reasons to not play.

R Reizo Ryuu Honestly those kind of traps should be more prevalent in Souls games to further solidify how bleak and hopeless things are. The complaints I've seen regarding traps and status effects are silly to me considering that stuff was in DS1 and you actually had to plan ahead and use consumables to counteract those statuses.

Perhaps the easier Souls games when it comes to exploration like Elden Ring and DS3 has made people too comfortable.

Part of the frustration or "fun" is learning where everything is and how to deal with it.

No I didn't. I dont know why you guys can't just let me have my opinion. I dont tell you what to think or criticize your subjective opinion of the game. I have had my eye on this since it was announced at the Xbox show. Total BS. I approached it exactly the same as Lies of P. I just gave it a shot. That one I liked.

I don't think a player should be punished for wanting to use the next shrine after a boss encounter only to die to it, losing your xp etc, because you are low health after the fight, it's really just a 'lol gotcha' by the developers, just like how jumpscares are just a loud sound and not actually something scary.

I am seeing much hate for "performance" online.

Maybe I'm an idiot. But this game runs smooth as silk. Playing on PS5. This game absolutely is cryptic though and I'm already feeling lost on combat. But that's part of learning. Having fun for sure
